Wicked episode!
This episode absolutely blew me away and is my favorite of the series so far. The Hex Girls were great as always, and their repeated new catchphrases "Wicked" and "Rock and roll!' were interesting. I was surprised how aggressive they made Thorn in this episode, but it was funny. I loved that Thorn actually needed her own tranquilizer gun (held in an "in case of Thorn" fire extinguisher box), and that she wrecked her own house 8 times last week because she "just felt like it" haha. I really didn't mind that the Hex Girls had edgier personalities than in the past; it was a fun personality quirk, and I wouldn't be offended if it became a recurring character trait, but I also wouldn't mind if it didn't. It was a fun combo of them being "spooky" but also edgy. Luna and Thorn acting all girly under the cursed guitar (which makes people act the opposite of their typical personalities) was pretty humorous, as well. I loved their new song "I Put a Curse on You!". It was reminiscent of "I'm A Hex Girl," but a little blander than some of their other songs. Still super catchy though! I thought it was a really fun reference to have the picture of the "younger versions" of the Hex Girls feature their original Witch's Ghost designs. The villain was super neat too, one of the best of the series, if not the best. She was super creepy, with the yellow eyes and zombified face. The gang also all had a lot of personality in this episode, which I appreciated. Amazing episode for the gang interacting with each other with some sweet moments thrown in there, and I'd love to see more episodes like it! And with that, we have a new #1! Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 3. One Minute Mysteries! 4. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 5. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 6. Too Many Dummies! 7. This was a great episode!
I liked Malcolm McDowell, who acted as sort of a Marty McFly figure in this episode. I actually laughed out loud at a joke in Guess Who for once, the one where Malcolm was shouting "time machine" over and over into the aluminum can to make it sound like he was echoing lol. Only part I didn't like was that part at the end where Malcolm was like "hey, let's party!" It felt like they just didn't know how else to wrap it up since they went so big with the time travel, but nonetheless it was a dumb line. It was weird seeing Scooby being evil in the year 4646 and Shaggy fighting him, but them changing history was a super cute moment. Shaggy being an all-powerful cyborg was pretty neat haha. The dystopian universe looked really cool, albeit it felt that the whole time travel thing felt a bit rushed. The Chronobeast was an interesting pick for a villain. I liked his design a lot; definitely one of the better designed villains of this series. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 2. One Minute Mysteries! 3. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 4. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 5. Too Many Dummies! 6. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 7. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 8. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 9. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 21. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 22. The Fastest Food Fiend! 23. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided Certainly not the best episode, but I think the tone and the villain took this episode a long way. Having the entire setting of the episode be in the old Wainsly Hall mansion at night was super creepy. Moreover, I think the villain was one of the scariest of the entire series so far. The lore that she was a bitter woman left at the alter was interesting, especially since we don't tend to get a lot of lore with Guess Who. She had a pretty creepy design too! It's definitely worth noting that about how the witch tricks them into eating the sweet potato pie that makes them have lucid dreams about her wedding is terrifying! Clearly, the witch is somehow able to control exactly what they are dreaming about then, which raises both the fear-factor, and a lot of questions! Jeff Foxworthy as a guest star was decent. The running gag of Jeff trying to prove that Fred, Shaggy and Scooby were all "country boys" got really irritating after a while, but with the exception of that, I didn't mind Jeff's presence in the episode too much. The creepy vibe of the episode and the witch's lore/design definitely made up for it in my book. Shaggy and Scooby eating that hundred-year (or more) old buffet was disgusting! I also thought them being so intrigued by the bug zapper kinda weird. Also, if you don't like door scenes, this episode has an extended door scene that lasts at least a minute which you can tell was just a ploy to fill time. They also made a very obvious and regrettable typo in the credits, since last I checked, there's no such thing as a "Contruction Foreperson" lol. You can also see by the credits that they still aren't naming any minor characters (with the exception of one), which is quite unfortunate. Star-Studded Scoreboard:

Maddie was a cute guest star, and seemed super energetic in the role. I don't feel like we've gotten that with every guest star in this series, so it's always a pleasure when we get a really good one like this one. The location, her haunted dance studio, was a fun change of setting as well. The villain, Madame Zobrinsky's ghost, was super neat too! I liked how the majority of the episode tried something different with Maddie trying to teach Shaggy and Scooby how to dance to break the curse that the ghost put on Maddie. You could argue that this episode was off-pace, but I honestly like the episodes that do something different than the norm (such as the Flash one), so naturally I loved this episode. Maddie's energized contributions to this episode, in conjunction with the change of pace with this episode, made this one of the best episodes of the series so far. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 2. One Minute Mysteries! 3. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 4. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 5. Too Many Dummies! 6. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 7. Also, the order for these is a bit wacky, it seems. In Spain, The Hex Girls was episode 20, however, all other countries and Amazon seem to agree that Jeff Dunham and Darci Lynne Farmer is the 20th episode. I'm going to go with the majority here and say Jeff and Darci is episode 20, and I can always update this post later if need be. I will continue to post one review per day! This was definitely the creepiest episode so far! Crazy Carl was a super creepy villain, especially when he was following them all around town and popping up in their motel at night. Tons of classic horror elements were used in this episode, which I loved! However, I thought the running gag of everyone thinking Scooby was a dummy and Shaggy was his ventriloquist got old after a while. Crazy Carl looked quite like the Joker, though that wasn't touched upon or referenced in any way beyond his appearance. Crazy Carl's voice kinda sounded like an old 50's gangster or something haha. I thought it was interesting that Simone was used again in this episode. This is the third time she's been a minor character in an episode. The old lady and her son (who reminded me of Lurch) were super creepy too, and the chase scene between them in the haunted house with them only amped up the spook-factor for me. I didn't like that they used the door gag again in this episode, it's getting quite old now. The guest stars were decent as well, but Darci Lynne Farmer seemed to completely overshadow Jeff Dunham in the episode. Jeff hardly got any lines and kinda seemed like he was just there, without any purpose. It was interesting how each of their ventriloquist dummies seemed to be minor characters. This was a great episode though due to the excellent use of horror elements, so I'm ranking this #4/20. A picture of Crazy Carl is also included below. He also has extending arms that he can grab people with. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 2. One Minute Mysteries! 3. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 4. Too Many Dummies! 5. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 6. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 7. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 8. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 9. For those who didn't read my comments on the Hex Girls post, I have been lucky enough to see these episodes through a friend in Spain's subscription to HBO Spain. While I would love to share these, there is no way for me to provide a link to these or download them off of HBO. HBO Spain has a block up on downloads or recordings, and you need to pay for a subscription from Spain to view them. I was incredibly lucky that my friend had allowed me access to his HBO account, and I apologize that I am not able to share links with you. I enjoyed this episode! Steve was a really solid guest star and he had a lot of good moments, most prominently where he redeems his love for chipmunks at the end haha. Speaking of the ending, it ends differently than a lot of other episodes have, and I enjoyed that. The Fire Beast was a pretty cool looking villain. But again, Fred, Daphne and Velma had interchangeable lines which I don't really like. They also used a variation on that door gag for the fifth or sixth time in a row now, which is getting old. Having visited Italy last summer, I also noticed quite a lot of unfortunate stereotypes in this episode. I'd say Steve was the best part of this episode and the Fire Beast had a cool design, but nothing special with the gang really. This places 14/19 on the scoreboard, since it wasn't a particularly offensively bad episode, but it was also pretty lackluster in general compared to most others. I'm also including a villain pic at the bottom of the Fire Beast, in case people are interested. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 2. One Minute Mysteries! 3. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 4. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 5. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 6. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 7. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 8. The Nightmare Ghost of Psychic U! 9. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 10. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 11. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 12. The New York Underground! 13. Hollywood Knights! 14. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided This is the episode I've been looking forward to since the series was announced!
I'm definitely a fan of Halsey, and enjoy her edgy, rebellious personality...but we didn't really see that here. She got watered down, sadly, as this episode was. This episode wasn't really offensively bad in any way, but at the same time, it felt like there wasn't really anything memorable about it and it was very easily forgettable (the monster particularly). I did think it was sort of mean for Scooby to throw Shaggy up on a stage in front of thousands of people without him having any time to prepare! The one joke I did find funny, albeit it very childish was Shaggy's poem in the shower, "I stink, therefore, I smell!" Clearly the next Robert Frost right there lol. They should totally release this one in the US now though, with her current song "You Should Be Sad" charting (which, ironic to this episode, has the lyric "Won't see your alligator tears/I've had enough of them" in it). For the ranking this time, I placed it just below Sia's episode. It had the same level of forgettableness that Sia's episode did, but the creepy doppelgänger ghost bumped it a step up from this episode for me. 12. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided This one was a bit of a disappointment after the last two were so strong.
Honestly, this episode only really had two things going for it. I liked the crazy old lady just because she was spooky, and I also really liked the creepy atmosphere of the castle and catacombs. It was also cool how the office looked the same as the one in "Never Ape an Ape Man." However, everything else was done poorly. George Takei's lines seemed stilted, the jokes with the gang being obsessed with his beautiful voice didn't work, and even the "ohhh my!" gag got old after a while. The villain wasn't great either, and his voice and laugh sounded really cheesy and fake. I did sort of like how he could switch in between suits of armor, though the explanation that he just did it super fast while jumping in and out of secret passages was dumb. I know it's a cartoon, but the explanation even seems fake for a cartoon. There's no possible way he could have changed out of one suit of armor into another in a matter of seconds without anyone seeing. The episode's pace felt horribly rushed too. Barely any clues were found, and it felt like we were just going from place to place so fast that it was unenjoyable to watch. 7. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided Another great episode we've got here!
This episode is unlike any other episode in the series and I think you'd be doing a disservice if you compared it. You could certainly say that it has major continuity issues, but honestly, looking at it as a standalone, I was really happy with how this episode chose to do something different. It's a breath of fresh air after all the forced nostalgia to see something different executed well. I thought Scooby and Shaggy's relationship with Barry Allen was super cute! I liked how they redid all the classic mysteries (viewing it as a separate universe) and the interactions between The Flash and the gang were fun and quirky. I liked the giant teddy bear as the main villain, as well as the reference to The Joker! I thought it was interesting how they had Simone from "Quit Clowning" be the witch instead of Zeb. This wasn't perfect, but it was different, and I really enjoyed that. So, another surprise for y'all with the star-studded scoreboard, and I'm sure I'll get much disagreement with this, but... 11. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided Wow, what a great episode!
I thought Mark Hamill was the best guest star we've seen in this series. It actually sort of reminded me of Tim Conway's episode in The New Scooby-Doo Movies in several ways, between it taking place at a high school, some of Hamill's jokes and mannerisms, and even down to them hiding in a recycle bin (well, okay, the original episode was in a trash can, but hey, you gotta upgrade for the 21st century, right? haha). Mark Hamill added a great presence to this episode, and I thought his acting was on-point. He genuinely seemed really passionate about the role, which I don't think we've necessarily seen from all the guest stars. I liked all the references to Star Wars, the joke about Shaggy having the $1,000,000 personal check from Hamill, and even down to his Joker laugh. The references to old episodes like the Wonder Woman one and the Batman one showed how much care was put into this episode, which was refreshing as we've gotten some subpar ones in this series. The nostalgia also felt much more genuine in this one, rather than forced like it has in many episodes. The villain was quite odd looking, but pretty creepy (I find bugged-out eyes to be particularly creepy!). He looked like something out of an anime! When it was first announced, I was thinking the fox monster was going to be the school mascot, but interestingly he wasn't. I felt the character interactions were pretty decent for the most part, besides the one sort of awkward bit where Velma loses her glasses. I loved the school in Japan as a location too! Just added to the creepy vibe. So this is gonna surprise y'all, but here's the updated scoreboard. We have a new top episode! Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 2. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 3. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 4. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 5. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 6. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 7.
