Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? Episode 22 Review

Certainly not the best episode, but I think the tone and the villain took this episode a long way.

Having the entire setting of the episode be in the old Wainsly Hall mansion at night was super creepy. Moreover, I think the villain was one of the scariest of the entire series so far. The lore that she was a bitter woman left at the alter was interesting, especially since we don't tend to get a lot of lore with Guess Who. She had a pretty creepy design too! It's definitely worth noting that about how the witch tricks them into eating the sweet potato pie that makes them have lucid dreams about her wedding is terrifying! Clearly, the witch is somehow able to control exactly what they are dreaming about then, which raises both the fear-factor, and a lot of questions!

Jeff Foxworthy as a guest star was decent. The running gag of Jeff trying to prove that Fred, Shaggy and Scooby were all "country boys" got really irritating after a while, but with the exception of that, I didn't mind Jeff's presence in the episode too much. The creepy vibe of the episode and the witch's lore/design definitely made up for it in my book.

Shaggy and Scooby eating that hundred-year (or more) old buffet was disgusting! I also thought them being so intrigued by the bug zapper kinda weird.

Also, if you don't like door scenes, this episode has an extended door scene that lasts at least a minute which you can tell was just a ploy to fill time.

They also made a very obvious and regrettable typo in the credits, since last I checked, there's no such thing as a "Contruction Foreperson" lol. You can also see by the credits that they still aren't naming any minor characters (with the exception of one), which is quite unfortunate.

Seems like it, yeah. This one felt especially long though and appeared like they were just trying to fill time.

Where did you hear the villain of the Bill Nye episode was a Tardigrade Monster?

Word travels fast! I just added that to the episode guide like 30 minutes ago and was going to mention it in tomorrow's post haha.

I asked someone from Italy who's seen the episode in Italian on the ScoobyAddicts forum.

Ah. I was hoping for an alien given it being on a space station and Neil deGrasse Tyson being an astrophysicist, but this is even better.

I'm looking forward to it as well! I'm wondering if the design is going to be similar to the giant worm from What's New...at least from looking up pictures of a tardigrade that's what it looks like to me. I asked the person who's seen it what the monster's design looks like, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see! :)

Not as impressive as I had hoped. It was certainly a good episode, but not my favorite. The villain design and atmosphere was excellent, and I really enjoyed the door gag this time around. It reminded me of the Hawaiian Witch Doctor revolving door scene from SDWAY, which is like my favorite episode of all time. The bug zapper thing was really stupid though.

I hated the bug zapper gag and the whole "country boy" recurring joke got old really fast. I don't remember liking this door gag any better than any of the other ones, but that's an interesting connection!

11th, really? Ouch. This episode went top for me. Why? Yes the Country boy joke gets old fast and yes the ending was a little off with that buffet bit, so why top place? This in my eyes was the perfect homage to the New Scooby Doo Movies and old Scooby episodes. The guest star blended in with the gang perfectly, there was the typical Scooby setting, a creepy mansion similar to that in "Guess Who's Knott Coming To Dinner", an equally scary monster with a good backstory. A number of suspects, I thought it was the construction lady because of how quickly she found them in the piano, good levels of comedy and as for the filler, The New Scooby Doo Movies are famous for it. That pie bit really had me fooled as well for a moment, why was the monster baking them a pie? Overall, for me the best portrayal of classic scooby Doo so far and as such it leads my leaderboard. I'm just so glad we've had 3 great episodes after Fire Beast which really had me feeling the series was going out with a whimper onto 23!

Interesting thoughts. I guess just the bad jokes (not just the country boy thing, the bug zapper and others were bad too) and the filler wasn't something I thought was enjoyable. Agreed it's a great homage though to classic episodes and it was genuinely creepy.

Aww thanks :-) I’ve watched a lot of scooby doo over the past 6 years. I’ve been a fan of SD since I was 5!
