53 years ago today, Scooby-Doo aired on CBS for the very first time. To finish our 13 days of celebrating with fan spotlights here on the blog, I’m super excited to introduce you to the final fan spotlight of this year, Corton! Corton is a regular reader of the ScoobySnax blog, although you may know him better under the username Gibby Norton here on the blog! He also is somewhat active interacting with some Scooby-Doo fans on Twitter. The picture you see above is a sign Corton made at his college back on September 13, 2019. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise, he handed out Scooby-Doo graham crackers and gummies from the table to anyone who passed by on that day! Corton is also responsible for a viral tweet on social media related to something involving a rice krispy treat! I’ll let him tell the full story (which is perhaps the most interesting answer any of the fan spotlights have ever had for the “fun fact” question), but without further ado, here is our final fan spotlight! 1. What is your name? My username that I use on the Scooby Snax blog is “Gibby Norton,” but my real name is Corton Rider. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I have just always been a Scooby-Doo fan! There is a home video of me somewhere stored at my grandmother’s where I’m barely a year old and playing with toys with my cousin while commercials are playing on the TV in the background. However, when the commercials end I very quickly drop everything I’m doing and rush over to the TV because Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! has resumed on Cartoon Network. Ever since around that age I have had the same continued dedication to the franchise! 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite Scooby-Doo movie has got to be Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost. While Zombie Island is arguably the more memorable Scooby movie overall, I think that Witch’s Ghost has an even better sense of mystery and a wonderful Autumn atmosphere that I just eat up! Not to mention the Hex Girls are great and that climax is absolutely stellar, allowing the movie to deliver two well-rounded adventures, both one of an unmasking villain story and one of a supernatural threat story. My favorite episode is a bit tougher, stuck between two choices: Where Are You!’s A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts and Mystery Incorporated’s All Fear the Freak. A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts is just this perfect episode of classic Scooby to me, featuring what could be seen as the generic monsters and locale that one may expect, but filled with a lot of genuinely funny jokes, tense moments, and spooky settings that make the episode endlessly fun to get lost in every time! All Fear the Freak is my other favorite because I think it has an extremely satisfying conclusion to Mystery Incorporated’s first season and even beyond that it is in its own right an episode that stands out for its legitimately scary villain and very interesting mystery. I can remember seeing the promo for the episode air on Cartoon Network and I wish so badly that I could find it again somewhere online to relive the excitement of anticipating that episode! 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I’m not super duper involved in things online because I find the large amount of effort that others have already put in online to making the Scooby wiki, message boards, and podcasts and such to be very daunting when trying to think of something I would like to do, so my interaction with Scooby fans remains mostly on my Twitter account! I did eventually gain some courage and now do occasionally comment on posts on this very blog and on the Scooby-Doo subreddit as well! I also joined a Scooby group turned “Hanna-Barbera Wiki Fan Group” on Facebook run by my good friend who had his own fan spotlight on here last year, James Dixon. I interact with him and some others on there, it’s a lowkey environment so I think it feels very friendly and not like a competition of who is the bigger, more involved fan vibe that other groups have. Otherwise, I am mostly an observer and supporter of what everyone else is putting out. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? My favorite era of Scooby is what I like to call the “Reboot Era” of 2009-2013. I’ve heard the term “Reboot Era” used before by some fans and I am unsure if I somehow got that to catch on with what very few comments I have made or if others just had the same thoughts that I had, but regardless I think it is a fitting title! We had a reboot of the live-action movies with The Mystery Begins, the DC Comics re-started over again from issue #1 with a slight retitling of their monthly releases, we got brand new video games (First Frights and Spooky Swamp) that brought their own style and storyline, the direct-to-video movies got a revamped art style and really cranked out hit after hit with those movies, Matthew Lillard took over as the voice of Shaggy, and on top of all of that we hit a really big reset button with the newest Scooby TV show at that time! This era really packed in a lot of content and it was all for the sake of both renewal and trying something different, or at the very least providing the same ol’ thing with fresher eyes than some of the stuff that had come before maybe had. My favorite series for certain is Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated not just because it has a very interesting overarching mystery, but because it also perfectly matches my sense of humor. It mixes in really fun jabs at culture with sometimes wacky humor, sometimes dry humor, and always very situational humor. I think that show is one of the funniest I have ever seen, and I think that that aspect of the show gets overlooked very often in favor of the more dramatic aspects of the show (which are great, too!) 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? Haha, can I say the easy answer of “I want SCOOB! Holiday Haunt to get a release”? Outside of returning characters such as the Hex Girls, Crystal and Amber, Googie, and others from various movies and shows, there isn’t really much that I would like to see happen. I think a reboot of 13 Ghosts would be a great idea for a limited series. And I guess by default I’d want an official third Zombie Island movie made by a devoted fan of the original just to at least kind of make up for what Return to Zombie Island did to turn off a lot of fans. I guess if I really had to make a direct sequel, I’d want a third movie with the theatrical live-action cast. I am unsure as to how realistic a live-action movie would be, but I would love for Warner Bros to give it the same treatment that they gave to Batman ‘66, where they made an animated movie that was designed to look like the same world so that the characters wouldn’t have to be aged up too much despite having the original cast return. An animated legacy sequel done by the guys who do the animation for those direct-to-video DC movies would be amazing! Plus I do think this iteration of the gang deserves a little reunion and official send-off story. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? In the future I would like to see the Scooby-Doo franchise continue to take risks. They’ve been doing that lately I feel by greenlighting both an adult animated series and a preschool animated series- two entirely new territories for the franchise! Even more recently they went a little nuts with their Courage crossover movie and I also appreciate- even if I can’t say that I outright like- that SCOOB! wanted to do more with the property. Try or fail, I always do admire seeing a real effort being made. I think too often we hear people say that they just want Scooby to be the exact same as it was when it first started, which could be great! But I also think that that can be hard to fully recapture without at least even the slightest of a unique spin by the people creating it. There needs to be a personal flair that the creators inject into a Scooby project for it to work, I think. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? My favorite member of the gang is Scooby-Doo himself! He is loyal and brave, while also silly and cowardly. I think that Scooby in all his iterations always comes across as lovable and funny, and I think that that is a testament to the power of that character’s simple charms and what he means to the people who write him. I mean, clearly other people out there agree with me on this because it is a literal plot point in Scooby-Doo (2002) that Scooby-Doo himself has one of the purest souls on Earth! 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? This one makes me feel very conflicted! I love many monsters from across the years, from the Phantom Shadows to Sarah Ravencroft, Gramps the Vamp to the San Franpsycho, and even that green werewolf from Where Are You to the Luna Ghost. However if I had to pick one, I may have to choose the season 1 version of The Freak of Crystal Cove from Mystery Incorporated. His presence is so unbelievably threatening and scary, and yet his rhyming schtick and his poeticness add a lot of mysteriousness and depth to the character. I think this villain was so interesting that they should have had him lurking throughout the entire season! 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Despite my username I hope no one is expecting me to say Gibby Norton! I am a huge Hex Girl fan, and I think that their music and unique personalities really give them a lot to offer. Beyond them as they are a bit of an easy answer, I have to say that I love the entire supporting cast of 13 Ghosts! 13 Ghosts is such a great series and concept and I think that version of Mystery Inc truly does deserve a chance to shine in a reboot someday! 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I definitely have a large movie collection in general, so there is a special cabinet in my bedroom that houses every Scooby movie and show on DVD and Blu-ray (and one 4K with SCOOB!). Beyond my special Scooby movie cabinet I have every LEGO set and I also have some random knick knack things such as the complete trading card set for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, a ton of Scooby comics including every issue of Team Up, books, toys, CDs, video games, magnets, board games, keychains, stuffed animals, and just some stuff I stumble upon and happen to like. Where I was born in 1999 and Scooby was around for 30 years before that, trying to collect as much Scooby as possible feels more difficult and so I just try to focus on getting things that I just know I absolutely have to have and I make myself content and happy with those! 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I think it is absolutely the characters that have made this franchise last as long as it has. The atmosphere of mystery definitely helps as a good hook, but people come back so much because they want to see these characters. They’ve changed over the years various times, from writing styles to voices. However the core idea of every personality has always been maintained in some capacity and it’s hard to not want to see how these characters evolve next and what adventures they go on! It’s the same reason that things like The Simpsons and SpongeBob go on forever- because even if someone doesn’t like one season (or in Scooby’s case iteration) it is still just so hard to say goodbye to characters you love so much. So they keep on bringing the Scooby gang back! 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? Back in November 2016 I was in my senior year of high school. In order to impress the girl I really liked I sprinted into one of her classes and threw her a Rice Krispie Treat (at the time one of her favorite snacks) and ran back out. One of the people in that class tweeted about it. Within 24 hours that tweet got about 200,000 likes and 100,000 retweets! And while I was not actually dating the girl at the time and I was not name-dropped in the tweet, you all just have to take my word on it. I promise it was me. I was the “romantic” inspiration for a trending tweet and people’s failed attempts at starting a Rice Krispie Treat challenge. The person who tweeted it is on private now, but at the time she even got sent boxes from Rice Krispies themselves. She gave me one tiny square treat as a thanks. I assumed Rice Krispie Treats only came in rectangles, but all I got for my efforts was a tiny square one. And now it’s 6 years later and believe it or not, but I’m finally with that girl I liked, haha! So I guess it turned out pretty alright. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here!
I don’t really have anything else that I need to say or promote! Support physical home media! If you love Scooby, give any new shows or movies a fair shot before judging! Just do whatever it is you can do to support Scooby that also makes you and you happy and doesn’t bring others down! Thank you so much to Corton for participating as our final fan spotlight! I just want to say that I really like Corton's sentiment in his answer to the fourth question. One of my favorite things about the majority of this fandom is the idea it's friendly and that it doesn't need to be a huge competition of who is doing the most or who has the biggest collection. Personally, I think that any amount of involvement in the fandom, even if you're just reading content and not interacting, is perfectly valid, and I love that most people in the fandom have that mentality! I want to once again give a special thank you to the thirteen people who participated as fan spotlights this year. I hope everyone enjoyed reading these and getting to know some new people who are Scooby fans! :)

I’m really excited to introduce you to our fan spotlight today, Elemage. Elemage is a very active member on the ScoobyAddicts forum who has been a fan of Scooby since childhood, and is also a big Marvel fan.
1. What is your name? My name is Elemage. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I've always been into Scooby-Doo, I grew up with all the reruns on Boomerang in the late 90's. I didn't really dive into the fandom until around 2015-ish? 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite episode would probably have to be the "A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle" two-parter. It's the episode I have the earliest memories of. "The Night Ghoul of Wonderworld" and "A Nutcracker Scoob" are close seconds. As for my favorite movie, it'd have to be "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase". It just has so many nostalgic memories for me. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? My involvement in the fandom is pretty limited, which I'd say is because the fandom itself is pretty small. I'm on the Scooby-Doo subreddit, I follow a handful of DooTubers on YouTube, and I'm active on this lovely site (ScoobyAddicts). 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? In my opinion, the best era of Scooby-Doo is the "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" era. From the show itself to the 7 associated movies, it was just consistent. There have been higher highs and lower lows in other eras, but the What's New era is the most consistent and the most enjoyable. Plus, I very much liked that we got some new outfits, if only temporarily. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? Not exactly a sequel, and not exactly a (television) series, but I'd like the franchise to revisit "Scooby Apocalypse" someday. I feel like there was a huge missed opportunity in not doing more worldbuilding. Do the secondary characters like Marcie Fleach, the Hex Girls, Flim-Flam and Vincent Van Ghoul exist in that world? How did they react to the apocalypse? Did they survive? There's so many opportunities to explore in that world. Especially after the end where now there's a majority of humans and a minority of afflicted monsters. But for a traditional answer, I'll say I'd like a sequel to the original "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo". I think it's time for the little pup to get a redemption arc and I definitely think he has potential to fit into Mystery Incorporated as long as he's not paired up with Shaggy or Scooby. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? There's so much I could say here. But for me, I just hope for good storytelling, good characterization, and a healthy dose of respect for everything that's come before, from the Scrappy vignettes to Where Are You to Get A Clue to even the Harvey Birdman crossover. I don't want the franchise to be ashamed of what it's been and what it will be, which entries like Return to Zombie Island show they clearly are ashamed. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? My favorite member of Mystery Incorporated is Daphne. In fact, she's in large part the reason why so many of my favorite episodes, films and eras are my favorites. Not only do I love her aesthetic (purple is my favorite color), I just love her evolution from Danger-Prone Daphne to leader of the Scooby-Doo Detective Agency, a pilot and demon hunter, an international celebrity journalist, Make-Up McGyver and ultimately, a kick-butt black belt. All while still retaining her kindness and femininity. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? My favorite villain is The Headless Horseman of Halloween. For whatever reason, as a child that episode felt so much longer to me (in a good way!). And his design was so fun, it's not too scary but not too silly. He was even iconic enough that they brought him back for the LEGO installments! 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Hands down, the best recurring characters are the Hex Girls and it's not even a contest. And they always bring us a new song every time they show up! Vincent Van Ghoul is a pretty close second, but I'd argue that him, Flim-Flam, Scrappy and Marcie are as much members of the Gang as the core five. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I do have an unintentional Scooby-Doo collection, actually. Right now it consists of Where Are You: The Complete Series (the fancy, limited edition castle version), The (Almost) Complete Collection of The New Scooby-Doo Movies (darn it, Wednesday! Why are you still missing?!), both on Blu-Ray. My DVD collection is a bit larger, consisting of Cyber Chase, the compilation Monster Movies Collection (Legend of the Vampire, Where's My Mummy, Curse of the 13th Ghost, Franken Creepy, Loch Ness Monster, Witch's Ghost, Music of the Vampire and Moon Monster Madness), SCOOB! and the 50-Cartoon Collection. I also have the 50th anniversary Funko Pops for Shaggy and Scooby, as well as the limited edition Scrappy. Still need to get my hands on Daphne, Velma, Fred and the Hex Girls. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? As much as I love Scooby-Doo, I'll be the first to admit no one will ever accuse it of being intellectually stimulating. I think what keeps people coming back to it is the colors, the characters and the comfort it provides. People have grown up with this show, their children and grandchildren have grown up with this show. It's a part of their family. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? Something about me is that I'm huge into Marvel Comics. And I've noticed a ton of Marvel references in Scooby-Doo, which is funny considering Scooby's owned by the same people that own DC Comics. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I hope one day we get a movie based around "The Dragon's Eye", the comic arc from Scooby-Doo issues 60-66. It really is one of the best Scooby-Doo stories I've ever seen. Thanks so much to Elemage for being today’s fan spotlight! I really liked hearing his opinion on why the franchise has been around so long. I completely agree that it provides a sense of comfort, and there’s a lot of nostalgia around the series for so many people. Tomorrow, we have our final fan spotlight of the year, plus a special editorial article coming, so make sure you don’t forget to check the blog for lots of new content tomorrow! Our fan spotlight today is Connor, who is a Scooby fan that frequents this blog and loves drawing! It was really cool to find out that he got into Scooby through his parents recording a Scooby marathon on VHS, since that’s the same way I got into the franchise! He’s also our only fan spotlight this year that drew his own image for the top of his post, which you can see above! Here is his fan spotlight:
1. What is your name? My name is Connor. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? My mom grew up watching Scooby Doo when she was little, so she decided to introduce Scooby Doo starting with my oldest sister, then my older brother, and lastly, me (the youngest). My parents recorded VHS tapes of a Scooby Doo marathon, and they also owned those two-episode VHS tapes in the early 90’s. When the DVD’s came out, they started collecting them. I believe a few years after I was born, we had the complete season 1 and 2 DVD, the Scooby Doo & Dynomutt Hour DVD, and Scooby Doo, Where Are You? Season 3 DVD to start out with. My siblings and I were introduced to Scooby Doo ever since we were toddlers, and over time, we started to grow up with Scooby Doo on our own. My family lived with the classics, but watched some of the middle era Scooby Doo shows and movies, but I am the one who went further than they did, and according to my dad, I’m the household expert. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? That is a very tricky question to answer. There are so many great episodes and movies to choose from. “A Night of Fright is No Delight” and “Haunted House Hang-Up” are indeed two of my favorites, with the plot and atmosphere, creepy moments, and iconic villains. “Big Scare in the Big Easy,” “Large Dragon at Large,” “Block- Long Hong Kong Terror,” and “Camp Comeoniwannascareya” are episodes I think are great. Another couple of episodes are “The Night the Clown Cried” and “The Night the Clown Cried II - Tears of Doom!”. I enjoyed the plot of how the gang got back together after the events of the season 1 finale, and had to learn how to stop Crybaby Clown without Daphne (even if it was a short time), and I really enjoyed the climactic battle/chase with Crybaby Clown. As for movies, my favorite movie from the classic era is Cyber Chase, because I love the premise of Mystery Inc. getting trapped and traveling through the game their friend made, while also trying to solve the mystery behind The Phantom Virus. The moments where they meet their cyber counterparts and the final battle against The Phantom Virus are always my favorite scenes. “Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby Doo meets Courage the Cowardly Dog” is my top favorite of the modern era movies. It combines two of my favorite cartoons together in a very interesting plot that also gives an interesting explanation of Courage’s home town of Nowhere, and it is a movie I never knew I needed until the news about the movie dropped. Other great movies I would say are: Boo Brothers, Zombie Island, Aloha, Scooby Doo!, Where’s My Mummy?, Camp Scare, Mask of the Blue Falcon, and Stage Fright. Sorry for listing so much, it’s just not easy picking just one favorite out of everything else. :) 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I occasionally visit your website for the latest news and be a part of the polls and community. I would also visit deviantartists, like Cybereman2099, to find inspiration for my drawings, and make sure to credit who and what inspired my drawings. I was thinking of creating a deviantart account and posting pictures of my drawings and just creating a world of heroes, villains, monsters and mystery. It might include some Scooby Doo elements, some Sonic elements, and a little bit of Spider-man in the mix. (Fair warning, most villains might be dragons or other reptiles that are either pure dragons or hybrids) 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? The best era of Scooby Doo is the classic era. While I enjoy all eras of the franchise, the classic era brought some of the best shows and movies, and basically became the foundation and building blocks for the franchise. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? I think it will be interesting to see a sequel film for “Shaggy & Scooby Doo Get a Clue!”. Since in the final episode, Dr. Phibes escaped and hasn’t been captured, it would be interesting to see Shaggy & Scooby (along with Fred, Daphne, and Velma) return and help Uncle Albert and Robi stop Dr. Phibes, Agents 1 & 2, and the rest of Phibes’ henchmen once and for all. The movie will have the mystery aspect, and some action and adventure like in the show. If it needed a more mystery aspect, it could have a mystery involving a hulking monster mech stealing advanced tech, similar to The Dragon from “Heart of Evil”. The cast will still be the cast we know and love, with Jeff Bennet reprising his role as Dr. Phibes and Agent 2 and Jim Meskimen returning as Robi and Agent 1, and maybe Matthew Lillard will voice Uncle Albert. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? Hopefully, I want to see the franchise to bring back the darker tone of the series like the four dark era movies or Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated, but still keep some or most of the formula, but this time, how about a little more real villains/monsters,with great story writing and of course, awesome chase music if possible. I also hope to see the franchise survive this wretched merger with WB and (UGH!!!) Discovery. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby Doo is my favorite character mainly because of his charm and big heart. While we do see him scared so much, he has shown signs of courage and bravery whenever the gang needs him, whether it's done with Scooby Snacks or by his own will, and he will jump into action to protect his friends and save the day despite his being scared. I do also enjoy his moments of being hungry, because I like to eat myself. Because of Scooby Doo, I learned that even when I’m scared, I can still be courageous and face my fears. As a bonus, he inspired me to draw and create one of my main characters. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? This is also a tricky one to answer, there’s so many great villains. I already mentioned “A Night of Fright is no delight” and “Haunted House Hang-Up” having iconic villains, being The Green Ghosts and The Headless Specter, due to them being being absolutely creepy and being voiced by Hal Smith, who provided both villains with eerie and creepy laughs and cackles. The Phantom Virus is another great creepy villain with how he seems to enjoy causing mischief and mayhem and is downright menacing, and the same can be said for Mr. Hyde from Mask of the Blue Falcon. Crybaby Clown, Professor Pericles, and The Evil Entity are also amazing villains bringing their own charm and malice to Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated and indeed perfect for the dark tone the show has. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Scooby Dum is one of my favorite recurring characters in the franchise. I love how he tries to be a detective but goofs up bringing some memorable humor and he just fits really well being a part of the gang now and then. I wish they could bring him back to continue being a recurring character. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I have almost every show and movie on DVD, some of the unreleased episodes I do plan on having mp4 files of until WB releases the remaining episodes on DVDs. I still have some of the VHSs my family had when I was little, those being Wedding Bell Boos, A Halloween Hassle at Draculs’s Castle, The Headless Horseman of Halloween, Reluctant Werewolf, three of the dark era movies, and the first three What’s New Scooby Doo era movies. I have the 3d platform games from the Gamecube, Playstation, Xbox, and Wii era. I have files of almost all of the Scooby Doo comics (there are still some old issues that haven’t been put on the internet yet) and some issues of the 2010’s, at least some of the issues from #100 to now. I have some toys and plushies, one of which I was given when I was little and still have to this day. I definitely have an almost completed collection of Scooby Doo music mp3 files. Lastly, I have a lot of books including coloring books, storybooks, the encyclopedia book, and the Scooby Doo Mysteries series. I have a big collection, so I can’t really tell you what all I have, so I figured I would list the big chunks of the collection. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? What I think has made the Scooby Doo franchise so popular is that it has everything for everyone. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? One fun fact I would say about myself is that I like dragons and werewolves, they look so cool and inspired me to draw one of my main characters, who is mostly a dragon, but does carry some wolf traits, and looks a little more wolf-like when he transforms. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! Thank you WildwindVampire for creating a wonderful website and letting me be a part of your fan spotlights. Thanks to everyone here on the website for being a wholesome community where we can share our thoughts, opinions, and other things about the franchise. I know we’re in dark times because of the WB and (UGH!!!) Discovery merger, but if we stay strong, spread awareness, support the creators, writers, animators, actors and many more, and support other movies and cartoons that are being affected by the merger, we could hopefully pull through this disaster. Best wishes for everyone! A big thank you to Connor for being today’s fan spotlight! We’ve only got two fan spotlights left this year, so be sure to check back on the blog tomorrow to meet another Scooby fan (and for the Monday fun fact)! Today’s fan spotlight is ScoobyVerse, a fan who runs his own YouTube channel and is quite active on Instagram and social media as well. ScoobyVerse also wants to become a voice actor, and cites Frank Welker among a few other voice actors as inspirations. Thank you so much to ScoobyVerse for being today’s fan spotlight!
1. What is your name? My name is Riley, better known as Scoobert.Scooby.Doo on Instagram and ScoobyVerse on other social media sites. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? When I was 3 years old there was a car malfunction and we took it to the mechanics shop. Inside the guy put on Scooby-Doo Where Are You, Mine Your Own Business. From there I was hooked. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? I would have to say my favorite film is Scooby-Doo! And The Goblin King, brought spice to the franchise but still at the end of the day had a Scooby film at heart. My favorite episode would have to be It’s Mean It’s Green It’s The Mystery Machine. Such a fun episode from the What’s New Scooby-Doo era. The classic score sprinkled in, the eerie lights, and just the atmosphere of a seemingly Coolsville mystery. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I started my first involvement in the Scooby-Doo community back in January of 2020. Instagram was my main priority and still is to this day. I try to bring content and news in a refreshing and lighthearted way. Poking fun at certain situations in Scooby I feel brings people more drawn to him. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? I would have to say 2010-2013 movies/DTV specials for Scooby. Abracadabra-Doo, Camp Scare, Legend of the Phantosaur, Mask of the Blue Falcon, Haunted Holidays, Spooky Scarecrow…etc. They bring such a cool and modern take at Scooby. The animation is one of the best and the stories really flow together. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, I would love a second season to the show. It was one of the best takes for the gang without Fred and Velma. But when it did have Fred and Velma, you just knew it was going to be a spectacular episode. Want that feeling again. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I think we should have a bit more interconnectivity in some mysteries, have some character arcs ranging 2-3 movies like they did in Curse of the 13th Ghost-Happy Halloween. One of the best character appreciation moments from Velma was seeing her be obsessive to then show her just be scared of the unknown…that’s the reason why she was obsessive. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Shaggy by far. He is the laid back guy that likes to eat. He is constantly putting his neck out to save his pal but still be a coward at the end. True bravery and great comedic relief. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? The Phantom Shadows. They have such a cool motive just to see it backfire with the confederate dollars. Their schemes were immaculate and you could actually feel the fear they put into Scooby-Doo. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Scooby Dum. He is just the greatest, he is so funny and such a cute dog. His appearances in Laff A Lympics were some of the highlights of the show. Wish he’d be brought back. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Yes, I have a collection. I own every available episode and every movie (with the help from your guide). Including the Operation Dog and Hippy Boy bonus disc. I also own a few Funkos, toys, comics, shirts. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I think it’s timeless methods. It appeals to kids and works, it’s the reason we have so many films and 500+ episodes. There’s also a Scooby I feel for everyone, want comedic there’s Be Cool, into spies? Get A Clue…etc. It is a great franchise and I hope to see it for years to come. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I am training to be a voice actor, Frank Welker has been one of my many inspirations as a kid. I remember trying to mimic all the sounds he could do. He is an absolute legend. As well as two of my other favorite voice actors, Jeff Bergman and Eric Bauza. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I am also the first person to watch SCOOB! 1,000 times. Took around two years to complete 1-3 viewings every day since release. Happy Friday! With us as today’s fan spotlight is Graham, a Scooby-Doo fan from the UK who was a former police officer! He’s an active reader of this blog and the ScoobyAddicts forum, and loves watching Scooby-Doo with his family. Both he and his children love Scooby so much that they all continued to be fans into adulthood!
1. What is your name? Graham (Wish I'd put a little more thought into that now!) 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I watched Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! first time around as a child. Been a fan ever since! 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? Fav episode I would say Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! Doo Not Disturb. It has great atmosphere, and one of the creepiest ghosts ever! Fav film, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Scooby-Doo's big comeback, and it didn't disappoint! Great location, creepy looking zombies - and they were real! 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? Well, obviously I read the ScoobySnax blog :) I also browse the ScoobyAddicts Board - especially if I've just watched a movie or episode that I haven't seen before. I like to see the members' opinions and observations. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? For me the best series/era is Scooby Doo, Where Are You!, but Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! comes close! 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? Wow, that's a good one. I'm going to say... Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire. Not necessarily a follow-up to the same storyline, but I'd love them to do another musical. I really liked that one. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I'd like to see the DtV movies come back to having the supernatural be unambiguously real sometimes. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? As a kid I always had a bit of a thing for Velma Dinkley, so I'm going to say her. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Tough, but I'll go with 'Mother' from Scooby-Doo! Doo Not Disturb. Really creepy. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? The Hex Girls, easily (although that's three - is that cheating?) 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I do... Series (DVDs); Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! The New Scooby-Doo Movies The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? Movies (DVDs); Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase Scooby-Doo! and the Loch Ness Monster Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright Scooby-Doo! Frankencreepy Scooby-Doo! Shaggy's Showdown Scooby-Doo: Return to Zombie Island Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! Scooby-Doo! The Sword and the Scoob Scoob! 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? Lovable characters, exciting storylines, it appeals to both adults and kids, plenty of humour, the good guys always win, and it shows kids that scary things really aren't as bad as they seem. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I was a police officer (UK), and sometimes I needed reminding there were nice things in the world. Watching Scooby-Doo did just that :) 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I have a son and daughter (both now in their 20s). When they were very young I introduced them to Scooby-Doo. They loved it, and we still watch it together :) A huge thank you to Graham for serving as today’s fan spotlight! Graham was also a big help this past January in providing some suggestions to make the Scooby-Doo Continuity Timeline that SDF and I made even better, so I’d like to give a big thanks to him for that as well! :) I’m excited to introduce you to Dylan, our fan spotlight for today! Dylan is a very active member on the ScoobyAddicts forum, and was the first person to discover a webpage which now houses many of the Scooby-Doo underscores. A big thanks to Dylan for being today’s fan spotlight! Here are his answers:
1. What is your name? I'm Dylan. Often known as Dyland, TheDylandProductions, or some variation online. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? My introduction to Scooby-Doo was in the late Turner days; before the laugh tracks were reinstated for broadcast. My first episode was "The Backstage Rage," which, needless to say, utterly terrified this tyke. In fact, I remember being so scared, I had to turn away/turn off the television several times. But, even then in my first encounter, something brought me back. I don't know if it was the music, the humor, the gang, or Scooby himself... but I just had to keep tuning in; and find out if the gang made it out alright. My second episode was "Phantom of the Country Music Hall," which I was able to sit through completely (although still scared from time to time). I watched the "Caped Crusader Caper" through to the end, and I've been hooked ever since! 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? There are so many! Off the top of my head, I can never turn away; "Scooby-Doo and a Mummy, Too," "Go Away Ghost Ship," the two Batman & Robin crossovers, or "Wrestle Maniacs" (the Pup episode), although there's probably more. As for film, I have to give it to Boo Brothers. It's my favorite Scrappy appearance, I dig the Ghostbusters-esque music, and I like the visuals & story. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I'm a member of the ScoobyAddicts board. I was also first to discover Cybernight Computer's webpage. So glad to have contributed to the sharing of the discovery of the Scooby-Doo underscore! Some re-uploads have hundreds of thousands of views! 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I think the best era was the 90's and early 2000's. Everything (up 'til that time) was in re-run, the series was being released for the first time on home media (VHS and DVD), the Scooby Snack Tracks album, there was a plethora of Scooby-Doo video games, and the yearly DTV's were just starting up! The only downsides were Casey Kasem's departure and the passing of Don Messick; both of which were very unfortunate. But Messick's voice still lives on, and Kasem returned for What's New and 9! DTVs. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? I was a big fan of Laff-A-Lympics, and I think I'd want a sequel to that. Since connected universes are so popular right now, it would probably be an easy sell. And there are plenty of vintage Scooby & Hanna Barbera characters we haven't seen in decades. Why not dust them off and give them the spotlight again? Maybe emphasize the competitive element over comedy this time around. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I think just about all Scooby fans would agree; we just want stability. Canceled series & films are no fun. And, for me anyway, the constant artstyle changes (I count 4 since 2010!) haven't stuck beyond a series or film or two. I say more emphasis needs to be put on keeping the characters in their familiar style (with perhaps only a costume change a la What's New), keeping a single voice cast across all endeavors, and focusing on the DTVs and a running series; hopefully more than 3 seasons this time! 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? That's a tough one. I'm a big Scrappy fan, but he's not really a "core" member of the gang. So, I'll go with Velma. Her wit and clue solving are far too valuable, and I like that, unlike Daphne, she's kept to largely one fashion style for 50+ years. :P 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? I don't know about favorite, but I think the most ingenious villain was Captain Cutler. *Spoiler* All he had to do was fake his own death! Then he could prance about just about anywhere. The diving suit and glowing paint did the rest! *Spoiler* 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? As mentioned, I think Scrappy's too closely associated with the gang to count. So I'd pick the Harlem Globetrotters. I have no idea why an entire basketball team runs in fear away from one ghost, but it sure is funny. And with all their tricks and footwork, I like how they contribute to the traps in the end. Maybe I'm a bit biased, because I got to see them several times in real life! How cool is that; meeting some Saturday morning favorites in the flesh! 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? They say a picture's worth a thousand words. *see included picture* There's even more, but that's the bulk of it. :D 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I think part of the magic is that nobody really can put their finger on it! Like the little engine that could, Scooby-Doo has endured across multiple generations and survived cancelations, reboots, and just about everything thrown at him. I'm so glad the franchise is still around today. Whether facing real or fake monsters, I think Scooby works because of the gang's personalities and determination to face their fears; despite how spooky things get sometimes. It's a great moral lesson without being preachy. Partially because we learn along with the gang! 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I've been a forum moderator, voice actor, writer, editor, and musician for over 10 years. A lot of my stuff can be found at my Youtube channel: youtube.com/thedylandproductions or streamed for free at mustachemaniacsfilmco.com/music-1 (under my name). 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I've always wanted to do a Scooby-Doo fanfilm (either stop-motion or traditionally animated). Hopefully I'll get around to it someday. Happy Wednesday everyone! Today’s fan spotlight is Prime 1986, a Scooby fan from the ScoobyAddicts forum who is a Mystery Machine fanatic! Check out his fan spotlight below.
1. What is your name? Prime 1986 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I've been watching it since I can remember. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? Favorite Episode is What's New Scooby-Doo "It's Mean, It's Green, It's The Mystery Machine! Mostly because the episode revolves around The Mystery Machine. Favorite Movie has to be Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster, mostly because it's kinda nostalgic. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I'll post any news I find on the ScoobyAddicts Boards. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? I personally like What's New Scooby-Doo. I think it blends modern stuff perfectly into a franchise going over 50 years now! 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? Easily the 2002 and 2004 Live action films. They always deserved more credit and at least a 3rd movie. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I'd think going into SD Mystery Incorporated styled things, Like a darker tone but not horror movie dark. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? It’d probably be Shaggy! His humor, the overall character, and the voice talents are great! 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Probably the Aliens in The Alien Invaders. The movie just has an interesting plot as it is and everything just comes together so nicely! 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? The Hex Girls! 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Every once in a while I'll pick up a Mystery Machine or 2, lol. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? The adaptability, like I think everyone can relate to a member of the gang in one way or another. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I've studied The Mystery Machine a lot and I have found out it's a 1965 Chevrolet G-10 Shorty van without side barn-doors. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I have a toy of The Mystery Machine from the 2002 movie that I've never seen before! (It's the header image of the post.) Thanks so much to Prime 1986 for being today’s fan spotlight. Be sure to check back tomorrow to meet another super Scooby fan! I’m so excited that after two years of waiting, we’re finally getting the third Daphne & Velma novel today! However, there’s another thing I’m excited about today, and that is because of our fan spotlight! The fan spotlight for today is quite a unique one, because it is the very first one involving someone I know from my real life. What ended up happening is that unfortunately, a few of the people who had agreed to do a fan spotlight for this year weren’t able to send in their answers due to some personal circumstances. I was able to find replacements for all but one slot, which is when I got another idea. I thought it might be interesting to ask someone who isn’t a Scooby super fan like the previous 62 fan spotlights have been, but was a big Scooby fan in their childhood. That being said, I’m excited to introduce Avalon, our fan spotlight for today. Although Avalon isn’t the huge Scooby fan that most of us on this site are, she still casually watches some of the more mature iterations of Scooby on occasion in adulthood.
1. What is your name? Avalon 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I remember my dad recording a couple of old episodes of a series called What’s New Scooby Doo on a VHS tape. I don’t remember the titles, but I fell in love with the characters when watching the show. I’ve always loved a good mystery so that was probably also a plus for six-year-old me. I can remember getting really excited and asking my dad to look up when new episodes aired. Pretty soon, I was watching the series every week! My parents also started buying the movies on DVD whenever a new one would come out. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My answer is probably different now from what was back in my childhood. As a kid, I think my favorite episode was whatever new episode had aired that week, haha. I really was head over heels for What’s New Scooby Doo for a while. Now that I’m older, I mainly enjoy the stuff that’s more mature, so like Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, and Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. I don’t know if I have a favorite episode of either of those shows, because I enjoy the majority of the episodes. If I had to pick, I’d choose the Krampus one. The gang setting up the original Mystery Inc like that was iconic. Even the last episodes of both of the seasons weren’t as shocking as the reveal in that episode. For movies, I gotta go with Zombie Island. Even though it was rated PG, it’s super scary and I think there’s still a big appeal for all ages. The characters were so well-written. The villains actually felt like something that would come out of a horror movie! 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I didn't even realize there was a fandom until I was asked to do this, haha. I think that’s cool there are sites like this where people can talk about Scooby comfortably without judgment. It seems like there’s a societal stigma around people liking cartoons once they become teenagers. That’s unfortunate, because people should like whatever they want to like. There shouldn’t be shame in enjoying a cartoon as an adult. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Like I touched on in question 3, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated because I love how it has an appeal for adult fans. Whether you’re looking for comedy, romance, mystery, horror or drama, Mystery Incorporated has all of those aspects. Not only that, but they do it in a way that is appealing to a broad audience, even people who aren’t Scooby fans. I would love it if they made more Scooby shows in that style. I wouldn’t change anything about it. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? I was gonna say Zombie Island, but I was told there is already a sequel to that. I haven’t watched it, but I saw reviews online saying it was terrible and ruined the original so I’ll go with something different, lol. If they could do it without ruining the original, I’d like a sequel to Alien Invaders. That was another great movie that I remember fondly from my childhood. I’ve watched it a few times in adulthood too, and it deserves as much credit as Zombie Island does. Maybe they could come up with a plot where Crystal and Amber return and are chased by the government, or something like that? 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I would like them to go in a more mature direction like Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders or Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. Those movies show that Scooby Doo can be written in a way that appeals to all ages. I’d think they would want to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible so they can get more viewers, and this seems like a great way to do that! I checked out Be Cool Scooby Doo recently too, and despite the weird designs, the humor is a lot more mature than you’d think. I love it. To be honest I think it’s more appealing to me than the adult cartoons I’ve seen it compared to, like Family Guy or American Dad or whatever. I usually don’t enjoy shows that make the edginess over the top just to be “shocking”, because it feels forced. The writing of Be Cool Scooby Doo was great so I wouldn’t mind if they went in this direction either. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Daphne! She’s always been my favorite, even when I was younger. She might be clumsy or danger prone at times, but she’s so awesome and resourceful. I especially liked the quirkier personality they gave her in Be Cool Scooby Doo. Of the shows and movies I’ve seen, I think it’s the most dynamic and developed her character has ever been. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Professor Pericles! He takes evil to the next level. I never would have thought I’d see characters be killed and electrocuted to death in a Scooby Doo cartoon. He is maniacal and heartless, and probably the most evil villain there has ever been in Scooby Doo. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? I love The Hex Girls! It’s sad they haven’t been in many Scooby episodes because they’re such awesome characters. This is embarrassing, but I idolized Thorn as a kid because she was so cool and badass, lol. They’ve also got a positive environmental message attached to their personalities, plus I suppose them being a rock band it fits into the feminist Riot Grrrl Movement that was popular in the 1990’s, so what more could you want? 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I don’t have a collection anymore, but I had most of the DVDs as a kid and a Scooby Doo stuffed animal. My parents might still have them at home, but I’m not sure. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I think it comes down to a couple of things. Scooby Doo has a broad appeal that is timeless. Even the newer shows like Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated and Be Cool Scooby Doo still focus on the core formula of the Scooby Doo gang solving mysteries. Although certain elements change in different series, like how Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated is darker, and Be Cool Scooby Doo is more focused on comedy, that same formula is still there. Scooby Doo also has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for mystery, adventure, or comedy, Scooby has it all, and they’ve continued to include those elements for over 50 years. The fact that they keep making shows with these core elements makes parents who liked Scooby Doo as a kid want to introduce it to their children, so the cycle continues and Scooby Doo has become a household name. In fact, it would be odd if you hadn’t ever heard of the cartoon, and there aren't a lot of shows you can say that about. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I just started my second year in college! I am currently studying Sociology. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! Thanks for having me! This was fun. Thanks so much to Avalon for being today’s fan spotlight! To be honest, I wasn’t sure how well the idea of asking someone who wasn’t currently a big Scooby fan would work, since I wasn’t sure if some of the questions could still be answered. However, I really enjoyed reading Avalon’s answers and it was really cool to see these questions answered from the perspective of someone who is a much more casual Scooby viewer. I hope you enjoyed reading this fan spotlight, and be sure to check back for another fan spotlight tomorrow! With us today, we have one of two fan spotlights from this year who are voice actors! Our fan spotlight for this lovely fifth day of September is Mystery5, who is a longtime commenter on this site. I’d like to give a big thank you to him for being today’s fan spotlight!
1. What is your name? Mystery5 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? From a very early age watching VHSes of Where are You? 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? Witch’s Ghost. Classic and fun. Can’t choose one episode there are so many good ones. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? Talking and befriending big Scooby fandom members (Ashton Hardy, Nikki of ScoobyAddicts, Alex of @scooby_news, etc.) 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Where are You? and Guess Who? 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? More Guess Who episodes! They missed out on so many DC superheroes and celebrities. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? Similar to Guess Who (which is similar to the original Where are You). 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Velma. Her smarts, cuteness and her losing her glasses are all iconic tropes that make her epic. (Was shocked when they didn’t even use the typical version of the “lost glasses trope” in Be Cool!) 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Good ol’ Creeper. (Not the Minecraft one though that’d be an interesting crossover. Lol) 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Can’t choose. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Not as big as I’d like it to be. Some VHSes, some DVDs, some action figures, a Scooby plush and other things here and there. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? The fact that the gang are known and loved by many generations and iconic gags/cliches/gimmicks associated to them. That the characters are also relatable and have their strengths and weaknesses. Shaggy and Scooby being helpful when trying to capture the villain (they must get some pension besides the Scooby Snacks LOL) but also being bottomless food pits and the humor of the gang/often the POV characters (though it’d be nice to give Fred, Daphne and Velma that sometime or another), Fred setting up traps but being oblivious to some situations, Daphne being resourceful but being danger prone, Velma being the brains but losing her glasses. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? Hmmm, I do voiceover acting professionally. Maybe someday will be in a Scooby production! 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! It’s this community of Scooby fans of all ages that makes it feel tight-knit and awesome. If you’re new, you’re welcome in with open arms! Comment your opinions on a post we’d love for you to join us if you haven’t already. Happy Sunday! Our fan spotlight for today is Jacob Staggs, a big Scooby-Doo fan who is a frequent commenter on this blog and has some very unique perspectives on the franchise! Here’s Jacob’s fan spotlight:
1. What is your name? My name is Jacob Staggs. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I don't really remember anything in my life before I was three. The second movie I ever remember watching was Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers. The first time I saw this film I was hooked. Soon after, I started watching Scooby Doo, Where are You? on Cartoon Network every night except for the rare occasion where my Dad couldn't stomach the idea and would turn the channel. Soon after, I would watch episodes of the Scooby Doo Show. My first Scooby VHS tape was Creepiest Capers followed quickly by Boo Brothers and then Goes Hollywood. I continue to be a big fan of Scooby Doo to this day and here we are. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite episode is Hassle in the Castle. It always has been everything that I want out of a Scooby Doo episode. I love the ham sandwich scene. I love where Shaggy talks about the wind having a sense of humor. I really like Daphne in this episode. Her quote about trying to find her way out of the creepy inner sanctum is one of my highlights of the franchise. My favorite Scooby movie would be Scooby Goes Hollywood. I liked that they changed things up and made it meta. I love the tv parodies. My favorite thing about it however is that it is a musical with very catchy songs. I love Scooby's singing voice! 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I like leaving comments and having discussions on this very site! I consume a lot of information about Scooby Doo not just here but from Scoobypedia, Scooby Addicts, and more. I have reviewed Scooby Doo media in the past. I guess my involvement isn't really that big but I enjoy what involvement I do have. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Series and era. My favorite series is definitely Scooby Doo, Where Are You? The reason is because it has the most nuance and variety of any Scooby Doo media. Shaggy and Scooby might be the bait, they might not, they might be the first to see the ghost, they might not. They might decide to trick the gang so they don't have to be bait but end up being bait anyway. There are four other reasons this is my favorite series: 1) I love the art style. It has never been topped. 2) Shaggy and Scooby's friendship. 3) The inclusion of very catchy pop songs was groundbreaking the year before with Archies. Scooby continued that which is no small feat considering a character being hit by an anvil was considered creative in 1970. 4) The Voice Acting - Sans Heather North, the voice acting in this series was phenomenal. My favorite era would be what I call the original era: 1969-1982 before Ruegger came in and started giving them last names, toning Scrappy down etc. 6. What one Scooby-Doo series or film would you want a sequel to someday? I would like a sequel to Reluctant Werewolf because it ended on a cliffhanger. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? In the future, I would like to see extreme experimentation going far one way or another, like Velma or Mystery Pups. I want to see it evolve in many ways and more often than not, drop the mystery format. Also, bring back Scrappy! I love Scrappy. Also, more musicals! 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Definitely Shaggy. Always has been. I relate to him. He likes to eat. I would be scared in those situations too. Using jokes to mask your fear makes a lot of sense. Kasem's vocals and that character design make for a killer combination. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? That is a tough one. I'd probably have to pick the Headless Specter because I really enjoy his laugh. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? If you mean not a member of the original gang, then it's Scrappy all of the way because I like his rambunctious personality and the care that he has for his uncle. Otherwise, it's probably Sadie Mayhem because she's entertaining and the best member of the Really Rottens. I also really like Flim Flam for the same reasons as Scrappy except I feel Flim Flam puts a little more thought behind his actions. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? My Scooby Doo collection isn't very big. It mainly consists of Scooby Doo DVDs and VHS. I have a blue magnet with Scooby Doo on it that I really like. I'm very picky when it comes to collectibles. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? Dependability. It all comes back to Scooby Doo Where Are You which was a monumental hit. When you watch that show, you know what to expect but not exactly. The other thing is Shaggy and Scooby's friendship. That is one thing that is retained throughout the franchise. If you don't have that, you don't have Scooby Doo. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I was born with a deviated septum so I can only breathe out of one side of my nose. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! One of my favorite moments in the entire franchise is the Me and My Shadow Demon musical number. I have the clip on my phone and listen to it often. I would also like to thank you Wildwind for giving me the opportunity to do this. Thank you so much, Jacob, for being today’s fan spotlight! Be sure to check back tomorrow to meet another great Scooby fan! |
