Cartoon Network's odd treatment of Be Cool Scooby-Doo has broken several records for the franchise as a whole, including:

It was announced today that the Be Cool Scooby-Doo Season 1, Part 2 DVD has been delayed from its original release date which was supposed to be next Tuesday, March 28. According to VideoETA, we won't be seeing the DVD until December 12. This is very likely due to the fact that the DVD is set to include the final thirteen episodes of the first season, six of which have not been formally aired yet and will likely be put on the Boomerang streaming service.
Thanks to Boomerang AU airing new episodes every weekday, we get new summaries via Foxtel every weekday! March 14: The Curse of Kaniaku Villain: Kaniaku, the crab monster On a trip to Japan to visit Velma's friend, the gang comes face to face with the ancient crab monster Kaniaku. They attempt to solve a 700 year-old mystery; meanwhile Daphne accidentally becomes a viral media sensation in Japan. https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/tv-guide/Be-Cool-Scooby-Doo/83795464 March 15: Vote Velma Villain: Ghost Velma runs for mayor after the phantom of a town's founder attempts to scare off the other mayoral candidates. https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/tv-guide/Be-Cool-Scooby-Doo/83795516 Note: Though Foxtel oddly lists this episode as "Scroogey Doo," JCB has already revealed the description for this one (a parody of the famous Dickens' book A Christmas Carol) which doesn't match Foxtel's. "Vote Velma," which is the episode right before "Scroogey Doo," is the only logical title here. March 16: In Space Villain: Skull-Headed Aliens Fred takes the gang accidentally to an asteroid mining base in space after a very poor parking decision. Once there, an alien virus suddenly breaks out and begins turning people into extraterrestrials. The gang has to solve the mystery before they get the virus. https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/tv-guide/Be-Cool-Scooby-Doo/83795568 March 17: Doo Not Disturb Villain: Ghost of the Owner's Mother The gang stays at a hotel where the owner has very strict rules. They later discover that the penalty for breaking these rules is being scolded by the owner's phantom mother. www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/tv-guide/Be-Cool-Scooby-Doo/83795620 That's all the summaries for this week, but I'm hoping more will be aired in Australia next week. Currently, only "Halloween," "Scroogey Doo," "Night of the Upsetting Shorts" and "Naughty or Ice" are left unaccounted for, so this means we could possibly get new titles as soon as next week! March 20:
Silver Scream (New title!) Villain: Phantom While the gang is touring a Hollywood studio, the phantom of a famous silent movie star appears and tries to keep his secret last film from being discovered. https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/tv-guide/Be-Cool-Scooby-Doo/84547895 March 21: Halloween Villain: Witch The gang visits a strange town on Halloween night, causing the gang to have to convince Fred that his superstitious belief that you cannot solve a mystery on Halloween is false. Note: This episode description is taken from a different site. The witch villain was confirmed by JCB on ScoobyAddicts (I believe, {don't quote me on it} pretty sure he's confirmed it somewhere) http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/be-cool-scooby-doo/episode-7-season-2/halloween/849570/ March 22: Scroogey Doo Villain: The Ghost of Christmas Past, Present & Future What if the three ghosts of Christmas didn't visit Scrooge, but visited the gang instead? We find out in this comical episode parodying the Christmas classic "A Christmas Carol." Note: So unfortunately, it appears Australia has stopped releasing descriptions for new episodes, but hey, while all the summaries are being released I thought I might as well add this one that JCB told me a while ago on the ScoobyAddicts forum. I can't remember if JCB has mentioned this summary publicly or not, but if not you'll just have to trust me on this one. Though it appears the 'new summaries every day' trend is done for a while now, I'll be sure to post more summaries when I find them! While I'm still frustrated with CN's lack of communication on Be Cool, I wanted to let you all know I found one last piece that will hopefully finally wrap up the whole "why does CN keep cancelling" bit for good now that the show has been officially announced to be moving to Boomerang VOD.
About a month ago, fans were outraged that Be Cool didn't air as CN had said it would on February 13th. For once, this wasn't actually CN's fault, as it never was supposed to air on the 13th. Apparently, the 2/13 date (which was found on Zap2it) was for Boomerang UK, and was never an actual airdate that was planned in the US. To add to the confusion, Zap2it also listed March 25 as the return date for Be Cool Scooby-Doo. However, this date is also not for the US. March 25 is actually when the episodes begin airing in Canada. I'm really hoping that all these networks suddenly beginning Season 2 means we'll finally get the episodes on the Boomerang VOD service in the next few weeks! Only minutes ago, DC released the June 2017 comic announcements highlighting all three Scooby-Doo comics to be released this June. Here is the cover art and summaries for all of these comics, starting with a...rather violent...picture of Velma and Scooby Apocalypse #14. SCOOBY APOCALYPSE #14 Written by KEITH GIFFEN and J.M. Not much is currently known about the movie, other than according to TCM, the title will be "LEGO Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash."
In other DVD news, a new edition of Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico is available with a Headless Horseman action figure. The set can be ordered on Amazon here. Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers is the longest Scooby-Doo animated movie to date with a running time of 93 minutes (1 hour and 33 minutes), beating out Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf by only 1 minute.
Oddly, in addition to the news earlier today regarding Cartoon Network's decision to move the series to Boomerang VOD, we now have some more info that is good news to both Australian and US Be Cool Scooby-Doo fans alike. Despite CN's decision to move the series to Boomerang VOD in the US, this decision will NOT affect other countries at all. Specifically, Australian fans of the show will get a new Season 2 episode every weekday on Boomerang AU beginning next Monday, March 20 with "Some Fred Time."
Despite that we won't be getting the episodes in the US until whenever they are put on Boomerang VOD, an Australian TV guide site named Foxtel has given us descriptions for the first six episodes of Season 2. Here they are (note I have paraphrased them slightly so I'm not directly plagiarizing information from their site): Episode 27: Some Fred Time Villain: Walking Shark Fred goes to Daphne's beach house for some much needed relaxing, but a mystery pops up and the gang must solve it while hiding it from Fred. Episode 28: There Wolf Villain: Werewolf Scooby suddenly becomes incredibly ill and is rushed to a Gothic hospital, which is haunted by a werewolf. Note: If you remember in a previous post, I mentioned that I received info on the ScoobyAddicts forum regarding an episode involving Gothic culture. This is the goth episode I was referring to. Episode 29: Renn Scare Villain: Evil Court Jester The gang visits a Renaissance fair per the wish of Velma, where they must attempt to stop an evil jester from closing down the fair forever. Episode 30: How to Train Your Coward Villain: Vampire Shaggy and Scooby quit the gang after they are finally tired of solving mysteries and being scared half to death. Quickly after, Fred, Velma, and Daphne are forced to hire replacements after they run into a bloodthirsty vampire. Episode 31: Worst in Show Villain: Hound-beast When a giant creature called a Hound-beast attacks a dog show, Scooby goes undercover and enters the show to solve the mystery. Episode 32: Mysteries on the Disorient Express Villain: Unknown Much to Fred's annoyance, the gang goes on a three-day monster-free mystery trip on a train. Little do they know, the train has endless mysteries lurking in the shadows. Link to Foxtel (note: you will have to click on the episode to see the descriptions) Getting these descriptions has gotten me even more excited about the new season. It sounds like they will be mostly using original plots and monsters, and taking the characters in a whole new direction. Particularly, "Mysteries on the Disorient Express" and "How to Train Your Coward" sound quite interesting; so does "Some Fred Time" just because I want to know what a "walking" shark is! Though I have to say I'm most excited for "There Wolf." The premise just sounds spooky and interesting, Scooby falling ill suddenly and then the gang being alone in an abandoned hospital sounds super creepy! Admittedly, part of the reason I'm excited for this one is because of the Goth aspect of it - from what I've heard Jon Colton Barry (the show's head writer) did a bit of research into the Gothic culture including asking someone I know over the ScoobyAddicts forum a few questions related to the Goth culture, and I'm super interested to see how JCB works it into the storyline. Anyways, that's all I know for now, but Foxtel is going two weeks in advance for the TV listings, meaning hypothetically we could have another episode summary tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted if I find anything else! Finally, Variety has given us word on when Be Cool Scooby-Doo will be returning...but it's not where you think. Cartoon Network has just announced via Variety that their sister channel, Boomerang, will be creating their own online streaming service which will be "the exclusive home for new episodes of three popular series: "Scooby-Doo," "Looney Tunes" and "Tom & Jerry." In addition, there will also be 5,000+ episodes from the Hanna Barbera library added to this service, which could possibly mean that unreleased and rare episodes from "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" may be included on this service. Besides Scooby, the service will also premiere all new Boomerang original series including "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz" (a spin-off of the classic book and movie) and a Wacky Races reboot series.
Unfortunately, the service will charge users $5 per month, or $40 per year (with a 30-day free trial) to watch episodes, and will only be available in the US. When it launches, the service will be available at www.boomerang.com and will be downloadable via the app store in both Android and iOS mobile devices. Mirroring the recent Netflix update which allows users to download episodes and movies to watch offline later, the new service will also allow downloading of content to watch offline at a later time. Content will be added weekly, however, it is unclear how many Be Cool Scooby-Doo episodes will be available on the service upon launch. The service will be ad-free, and will launch sometime very soon during the Spring. Now that we finally know the return location and approximate return date of Be Cool Scooby-Doo, what do you think of Boomerang's decision to charge users to watch new episodes? Are you glad the show is finally getting some respect, or disappointed the episodes are no longer going to be airing on TV? Tanis, the mummy's daughter, from Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School was likely named after the city of the same name in ancient Egypt. During the 21st and 22nd dynasties, Tanis was the political capital of Egypt.
More information on the ancient Egyptian city can be found in its Wikipedia article here. Credit for coming up this fun fact goes to Grumpydrawer. |
