Yesterday, some animation designs from the 2020 theatrical movie film SCOOB! were leaked from an animation convention in LA.
We still don't have any info about Daphne's character design in the film, but what do you think of the new designs for Fred and Velma?

Billy Bob Joe Bob Harris is the best name I've quite possibly ever heard. Scooby and the gang met him in "Dawn of the Spooky Shuttle Scare" from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and he owns the Coolsville Space Center as well as several cows. This week, the spotlight is on him!
Why hello there fellow Scooby fan, and thanks for reading this post! We’re eleven days into our month of fan spotlight, and today ScoobySnax.com is spotlighting Shannon, an awesome Scooby fan who I know from the ScoobyAddicts forum!
Check out Shannon’s profile below: 1. What is your name? Shannon 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I used to love watching cartoons when I was younger. As a 90's kid, really in the heart of some of the best animation in my opinion, cartoons were in abundance and not just new ones either. Reruns of classics were on all the time and Cartoon Network was one of my favorite channels to watch cartoons on. For some reason in a sea of Nicktoons and the things CN and Disney Channel were trying to do with animation Scooby reruns were always my favorite. It didn't matter if it was the original, the Scooby Show, the New Scooby-Doo Movies or 13 Ghosts, I was drawn to all things Scooby. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite episode of the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You? series is a hard choice for me. I honestly love all of them but if I were to pick it would either be What a Night for a Knight, The Backstage Rage or Hassle in the Castle. The Black Knight is of course a classic as he's the guy who started everything but I have to say that the puppeteer and the phantom were truly frightening for a young-me sitting in her living room floor binge watching Scooby on Saturday morning. (I do have to add, however, that Season 2's bubblegum chase scene music was classic for me and I love those episodes dearly these are just the ones that really stick out in my mind when I think about Scooby.) As for my favorite movie, that would have to be Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Zombie Island is definitely peak Scooby and I think it brought Scooby to a new generation of kids and it put an amazing spin on a classic that didn't seem forced. It still fit into the Scooby universe while bringing Scooby up to date in a way that I don't think had really been tried before. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? Sadly the Scooby Addicts board is the only way I've been able to be tied into Scooby online and lately I haven't really been able to do that. I did use to write Scooby fanfiction and I currently have an unfinished fic on fanfiction.net but I don't ever see myself having the time to finish that one. (Which is honestly a shame because I loved writing the Scooby characters.) 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? As much as I love the 80's Scooby era what with Reluctant Werewolf, Ghoul School and 13 Ghosts, I have to say that I think the WB movie era (ZI, WG, AI and CC) was one of the best. Mainly because of how they were, in a sense, trying to continue with what the 80's had started in terms of real monsters and it had a lot of promise. Unfortunately that didn't continue and the franchise went off in another direction, a direction that was a little less mature and catered more to younger children than older Scooby viewers. Still I don't think what the WB movie era accomplished with those movies and how it really brought Scooby back to the mainstream can be overlooked. For once in my lifetime, it was cool to watch Scooby-Doo and more people were hopping on the train and that was amazing to see as a fan. 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? I honestly don't think sequels should be made, especially to older Scooby media and mainly for the reasons I stated above. If they tried to go back and recreate something I'm almost a hundred percent positive it wouldn't have the same feel or magic to it because the era they would be trying to remake has long passed. The only recent Scooby media I wish had a sequel, or had lasted longer I should say, would be Be Cool Scooby-Doo. I honestly enjoyed this series so much more than I thought I was going to! It was a little more mature humor wise, making it an interesting watch for someone of my age unlike Mystery Inc, and I was quite heartbroken when I heard that it had been cancelled. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? My main wish for Scooby media is for it to be a bit more mature in terms of humor. I'm starting to feel like a broken record by saying that but it's so true. As a 28 year old who still loves and watches cartoons, I'd love to see that quirky sarcastic humor from Be Cool come back. I want Scooby and its characters to stop being dumbed down for a generation that frankly doesn't care about the show because there's so many more options. I want Scooby to stop being a teenage soap opera centered around pairing up the gang romantically and get back to solving mysteries. I think Be Cool did that in a way that fleshed the characters out and gave them personalities but didn't create unnecessary drama for no reason. Mysteries, sarcasm and originality; that's what I want for Scooby's future. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby, of course! Shaggy and Daphne come in as close seconds but Scooby has always been my favorite. He's the center of the show, he's honestly what I feel keeps these characters together and he and Shaggy are the best comic relief team! And I mean, he's a talking dog. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? My favorite villain would probably have to be Bluestone the Great from Hassle in the Castle. Bluestone was the first villain/monster that the gang was like "dude is this guy for real?" He could walk through walls for goodness sake! I feel like he's the only one who truly "would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids and their dog." 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? I'm not sure if he counts as "recurring" since he only recurred in 13 Ghosts but I would have to say Vincent Van Ghoul. I can't express how awesome it still is to me as a hardcore fan that they were able to get Vincent Price, classic horror movie royalty, to agree to be in a Scooby-Doo series! His character just fit and he was like their dictionary into the occult for that series. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I do have a Scooby collection, it's not very large and I'll try to make sure I get everything. It consists of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? seasons 1 and 2, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo complete series, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, Scooby-Doo the Mystery Begins (which I was pleasantly surprised by), Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School and Scooby-Doo Night of 100 Frights for ps2. As for other Scooby items I have Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma Pop Vinyl figurines, I have a Scooby-Doo body pillow that's shaped like Scooby's entire body, a Scooby-Doo pillow case, I have 3 Scooby plush dolls - one is a large magician Scooby that I got at Putt-Putt as a prize in the 90's/early 00's and a smaller magician Scooby I got at the state fair as well as another state fair Scooby in a purple Mystery Inc hoodie. It used to honestly be a lot bigger when I was younger. I had those "first chapter books" I guess you could call them that had pictures at the beginning of every chapter and detailed a Scooby mystery that I had scored at a Scholastic book fair when I was younger along with a "Where's Waldo" type Scooby-Doo book. I had also collected Scooby-Doo party favors from a birthday part when I was younger, a tin Scooby-Doo bank in the shape of the Mystery Machine and had a multitude of Scooby-Doo shirts from when I was a girl as well. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I honestly think it comes down to something very simple: Everyone loves mysteries. I mean think about how many Scooby-like shows there were in the late 60's/early 70's. Josie and the Pussycats, the Chan Clan, Jabberjaw, Speed Buggy, etc. And that doesn't even cover the live action mystery shows going on at that time and even now. I think Scooby in itself has fared better than the previously mentioned for another simple reason: Everyone loves dogs. You had a show that married two things almost everyone has a love and affection for, mysteries and dogs, and then they went and got a real all star voice cast to work on it what with Don Messick, Casey Kasem and Frank Welker. Scooby had no choice but to be amazing. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I have four tattoos and, surprisingly, none of them are Scooby related...yet. ;) 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! Thank you for reaching out and allowing me to take part in this project! It's been a pleasure. A big thanks to Shannon for participating in this project! Feel free to leave her a comment below, and check back for tomorrow’s fan profile! Today, our fan spotlight is a very special person I’ve been working with now almost 10 years! That person is the wonderful ScoobyAddict, the webmaster of the ScoobyAddicts website and forum. I’ve been working with ScoobyAddict as an admin since 2011, and she’s an amazing person to work with and a great friend. Before I ramble on more about how awesome she is, I’ll let you read for yourself in her fan profile: 1. What is your name? My name is Nikki, which is my real name. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I watched Scooby on Saturday mornings as a kid. I have always loved dogs and, when I was a kid, talking dogs were the greatest thing ever! I found Scooby-Doo and loved the show, the characters and the mysteries. I guess I'm a kid at heart because I never grew out of liking Scooby. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite Scooby-Doo episode is Hassle in the Castle. I love castles and the gang solving a mystery in one was so cool. It's also an episode from what I think was the greatest series of Scooby-Doo! Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost are my 2 favorite movies. I liked the writing and the story lines of both movies. Adding in some real ghosts/zombies was a good touch too. The only thing missing from these movies was Casey Kasem as Shaggy. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I run ScoobyAddicts.com and I also post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram daily. This year, I'm posting daily holidays. I also have a blog where I post about new Scooby items and pieces in my Scooby collection and I post people's Fan Art on Fridays. I also do Fan Spotlight posts, which I did last year on a monthly basis. I continue to do them when I find someone that is interested in being in the spotlight. I would love to get a group of people together to host a Scooby-Con someday! 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! is the best series, in my opinion. It is the original! I liked the voice actors, the way the gang was drawn, and the villains were fun and not overly cheesy. 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? I'm not a huge fan of sequels. I'm not sure how I feel about the Zombie Island sequel. That was such a great movie and I don't see how they can do it justice by having a sequel. I like that everyone that creates a new incarnation of Scooby puts their own creative freedom into it. Even though some of those freedoms didn't work so well, I would still rather see new series and movies being made than sequels. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I would like to see them continue to make movies, new series and new merchandise. I would love to see a Supernatural/Scooby-Doo animated series. ScoobyNatural was the best crossover episode ever! I would like to see them do some other fun things with Scooby, like a "Where Are They Now: Villains Edition" where they tell what happened to the villains after they were taken away by the police. Did they end up in jail? If so, how long were they there? If not, did they continue their villainous ways or did they learn from it? 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby is my favorite because he's a talking dog. He's cowardly but he always comes through when you need him, especially for a Scooby Snack! 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? I don't really have a favorite villain so much. I think the ones from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! are all pretty cool. I do really like the Captain Cutler Funko POP Figure. I was lucky enough to get one, thanks to my hubby, and it looks really cool. It even glows in the dark. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? I really like Scooby-Dum and would like to see him in more episodes. I think a lot of people would agree that he should make a come-back. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I do have a Scooby collection. I have plush Scooby's, the Scooby and Shaggy phone, custom Scooby wooden dice that I had made by a local woodworker, Funko POP figures, other figures, a lamp, puzzles, buckets, pizza plates, cards, cars, and so much more. I am working on an inventory of all of my Scooby stuff. I also post about the items in my collection on my blog where I detail the item and take pictures of it from all sides. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? I think Scooby makes people feel better. The show typically starts off with someone being chased by a villain, usually a monster-type thing. During the episode, the gang finds clues and eventually they figure out who the villain is and unmask them. At that point, you feel good because you know that monsters aren't real and also because they caught the villain. Even with the many incarnations of Scooby and the gang, the basic concept usually stays the same. Some people can also relate to the gang members in some ways. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I once drove 1,288 miles in one day to hang out with Scooby! In December, 2011, Scott Innes had a Scooby-Doo Christmas Party in Louisiana and we drove straight through in a day to get to the party from Pennsylvania. It was so much fun! He had prizes he was raffling off, a couple guest stars, lots for the kids to do and he sang "You've Got A Friend In Me" in Scooby and Shaggy's voices(Check out my video of that here: youtu.be/EkiC0bvcvuM). Scott was genuinely a really kind and nice person who does so much to raise money for others and help those in need. I am very lucky to have had that opportunity (and to have a husband that supports my Scooby habit!) You can check out the pictures from this party here: www.flickr.com/photos/152678000@N02/albums/72157689513523856 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I really appreciate her responses, and also her friendship over the past 11 years. Feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have for her in the comments section below! In addition, here is some of ScoobyAddict's huge Scooby collection! I must say that this was an excellent episode! One of my favorites so far. Weird Al was a great guest star. His accordion songs were all pretty funny and didn't get old, and I particularly liked when he started playing the theremin instead. I'll admit I'm a fan of Weird Al in general, so this episode just worked for me. The dinosaur was a pretty cool-looking villain. I enjoyed the twist at the end where there were actually two dinosaurs, though it of course made it pretty easy to guess the culprits. Nothing much to say about the gang this week, other than it seemed fitting for Shaggy and Scooby to be fans of Weird Al. It bothered me a bit though that Shaggy kept repeating some variation of "It's that crazy dinosaur!" Just seemed like lazy writing to me. I enjoyed the location of the camp, and especially the mines. Definitely was a good setting for a villain such as this. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Boomerang and TV guide sites have screwed up on the titles of both of the last two episodes now. The title card reads "The Fastest Food Fiend!" for episode 9, though Boomerang and other sites call it "The Fastest Fast Food Fiend!" (there was no extra "Fast" in the title). With this episode, Boomerang and other TV guide sites have been referring to it as "Attack of the Weird Al-Losaurus!" (with an extra 'l'), though the title card clearly says "Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus!" with only one 'l'. Always frustrates me when they mess up stuff like this, since you know the wrong title is probably going to be the one remembered and included in show records a decade or so down the road. And also makes it tough for me, as I've had the incorrect title now for both episodes and then later had to change it to the correct one once I saw the title card. Now it's time to update our Star-Studded Scoreboard! Note that since this review did technically go up 2 days after episode 11's, you can check out the now-updated scoreboard on that review post. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 2. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 3. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 4. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 5. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 6. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 7. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 8. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 9. The Fastest Food Fiend! 10. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided And to make up for the fact that this review is posted a bit late, and out-of-order, I'll tag two of my favorite Weird Al Yankovic songs on to the end of this review. Enjoy! Fun Fact #259 is about not wearing any pants.
And who better to talk about this subject than our special guest writer for this week's fun fact, Mike Jozic, the host of A Podcast Named Scooby-Doo! When asked for a fun fact that people might not know about his podcast, he revealed "It may surprise you to know how many episodes of the podcast were put together while not wearing any pants." Do you wish you maybe didn't know this week's fun fact now? Well, so do I. This is the fun fact of the week. Enjoy your new knowledge! I’m excited to introduce you to our latest fan spotlight, GroovyScooby! GroovyScooby is a friend of mine who has been a very active member on ScoobyAddicts, and also was an admin back in the days that I experimented with trying out my own forum for ScoobySnax. She also is an expert at graphic design, and I’m lucky enough to have had her create the cover art for one of my fanfics, Fangs for the Memories.
Here’s GroovyScooby’s fan profile: 1. What is your name? GroovyScooby 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I remember watching it when I was a kid, like 3rd grade and I just really enjoyed the mysteries, plotlines and humor (why I love it to this day too). 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? Film=Scooby Doo and the Lochness Monster (I love the songs and the humor, with the whole "Dangerprone Daph" scene). Episode=Come Undone, especially when they realize the Heart of the Jaguar is them, their love and friendship for each other, it's very moving. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I enjoy posting on ScoobyAddicts, on Twitter, and I do Scooby fanfics and AMVS! 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Tough choice between SDWAY, WNSD AND SDMI! 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? SDMI! I would like to know what happened after the end of Come Undone. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? Hmm... I would like to see more Scooby overall and more series like SDMI and Guess Who. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby! I love the fact he talks, is so lovable and loyal! 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? The Creeper! 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? All of them, don't really have a favorite in particular. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Yes!!!! Plushies, games, clothes, accessories etc.... I have a lot of Scooby stuff! 12. The humor, plotlines, the characters, the fact you have this tight knit group of friends and their loyal talking dog going on adventures to solve mysteries. Everything about Scooby. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I'm left handed, and I love doing graphics and video editing :) Thanks so much to GroovyScooby, both for offering to do this profile and for her continued friendship over the years! Feel free to leave GroovyScooby a comment in the section below. Today’s fan spotlight is one of the most awesome people I know: SpiderScooby! We’ve been working together now for nearly 10 years on the ScoobyAddicts forum as admins. SpiderScooby also runs the amazing ScoobyFan.net, another Scooby fan site which you should definitely check out! Here’s SpiderScooby’s fan profile:
1. What is your name? SpiderScooby 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I got into Scooby back when CN was airing reruns in the late 90s. The first episode I ever watched was Scooby-Doo, and a Mummy Too, and from there I was hooked! 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? That's a tough one! My favorite episode is definitely from Where Are You, maybe Jeepers, It's a Creeper or Foul Play in Funland. My favorite film is Zombie Island. I feel like it matured the franchise in a way that hadn't been done before. It was the first time Scooby-Doo ever felt legitimately scary. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I run ScoobyFan.net and the @scoobyfandotnet Twitter account. I'm also an admin over on the ScoobyAddicts forums. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? Mystery Incorporated, for similar reasons to Zombie Island. The darker tone, the overarching mystery that got completely bonkers at the end. Plus the gang got real character development for once (okay, maybe not in the relationship department). 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? I kinda want to see a sequel to Monsters Unleashed, even if it was just animated. As long as they got the cast back of course. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? A new approach for the DTVs. They've been feeling kind of stale lately. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Shaggy, because he is an all powerful being. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Space Kook! He has such an awesome design! 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? The Hex Girls of course! 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? I'm very proud of my DVD collection. I'm still working on building it up, but I have the majority of the series and movies, including the limited edition Where Are You set that was released about 10 years ago. I also have a plethora of Scooby plushes and toys. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? There's just something appealing about four teens and a talking dog solving spooky mysteries. There's a nice mix of horror and comedy that both kids and adults can appreciate. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I'm a big nerd! I'm a big Marvel and Star Wars fan. And my favorite TV series is Stargate SG-1. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! You can find me on Twitter @scoobyfandotnet. I also stream video games over at Twitch.tv/scoobyfan69. Thanks so much to SpiderScooby for being so generous as to do this fan profile, and also for being an amazing friend! Feel free to leave him a comment below. Additionally, as promised, here's the results of last week's poll! Note that Weebly unfortunately doesn't allow you to close polls, though no further entries to that poll will be counted.
Zombie Island - 47 Cyber Chase - 22 Witch's Ghost - 11 Alien Invaders - 6 I'm admittedly very surprised to see Cyber Chase beat out Witch's Ghost! |
