A few days before the Comic Con panel, social media accounts for Velma have been created on both Instagram and Twitter under the handle @velmatheseries. The first post on Instagram features what appears to be a fan art drawing of Velma. The Twitter account features a sassy reference to Velma's catchphrase. Thanks to Scoobylover for sharing this information and links to these posts!

Rondo Hatton may have somewhat inspired The Creeper from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? Hatton played a character named The Creeper in two different films, House of Horrors and The Brute Man. In these films, The Creeper was not a monster, but rather, a madman whose body was horrifyingly disfigured. In House of Horrors, The Creeper becomes the inspiration for an artist's sculpture, but when critics denigrate the artist's work, he has The Creeper murder them. The Brute Man continues a similar plotline, where The Creeper marauds around town committing brutal murders.
Before any more films could be made, Rondo Hatton died of a heart attack in 1946, at the young age of 51. Hatton did not live to see the reaction to his films, as they were released after he died. Unfortunately, the reception to both of these films was generally negative, with much criticism of Rondo Hatton's acting. Thank you so much to Lance for suggesting this idea for a fun fact! You might be asking "how did we get back to #4 when we were at #148 last week?" Recently, someone pointed in the comments that a few of the very first polls on the site didn't get very much engagement (likely just because this was back during the 50th anniversary when I was doing this as an experiment, rather than a regular component of the blog). While we aren't going to redo all of them, I glanced through the first batch of polls, and picked out four that seemed like not very many people voted for them. I thought it could be interesting to redo a couple polls from a long time ago (or, at least, before the pandemic feels like a long time ago haha) to see if the results are any different now that so many more people are voting than they did back then. Here's a link to the original poll, as well as the results. You may notice the poll is slightly amended. I don't remember why I included the Shadow Demon and not Asmodeus in the original poll, but you might say I was giving off some real exclusionary Sassy Fred vibes there haha.
Here are the results from last week's poll. It seems we were close to a tie, but at the last minute, "The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face" got a vote and took the win. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode that takes place in a prison? The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face - 17 The San Franpsycho - 16 The Last Inmate! - 11 Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and the Bold - 10 If You Can't Scooby-Doo the Time, Don't Scooby-Doo the Crime - 9 A Scooby-Doo Valentine - 8 I Left My Neck in San Francisco - 5 Wrath of the Krampus - 5 Howl of the Fright Hound - 3 What a Night, for a Dark Knight! - 2 |
