Fun Fact of the Week #421

Rondo Hatton may have somewhat inspired The Creeper from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? Hatton played a character named The Creeper in two different films, House of Horrors and The Brute Man. In these films, The Creeper was not a monster, but rather, a madman whose body was horrifyingly disfigured. In House of Horrors, The Creeper becomes the inspiration for an artist's sculpture, but when critics denigrate the artist's work, he has The Creeper murder them. The Brute Man continues a similar plotline, where The Creeper marauds around town committing brutal murders.

Before any more films could be made, Rondo Hatton died of a heart attack in 1946, at the young age of 51. Hatton did not live to see the reaction to his films, as they were released after he died. Unfortunately, the reception to both of these films was generally negative, with much criticism of Rondo Hatton's acting.

Thank you so much to Lance for suggesting this idea for a fun fact!

I remember reading about Rondo Hatton a few years ago when I watched the old Sherlock Holmes movie, "The Pearl of Death", where he also played a Creeper character.

The Velma social media accounts are officially public and active. And we can gather some important information from them:
For one, the Instagram bio reveals the story is set in Crystal Cove, making this a SDMI prequel:
“Teenage Mystery Solver. Crystal Cove, CA”

Also, the first post on instagram reveals a fanart type of image with some text and main energy caption:

On twitter the bio is different and the first tweet is a funny sassy “Jinkies” reference:

The location of the account is Crystal Cove and the banner photo features a small part of the Velma character design with the iconic sweater. Check it out!

No, they don't say anywhere that it's a prequel to SDMI. Just because it's set in Crystal Cove doesn't mean it's connected to SDMI. It's clearly not at all from everything we've seen so far. Happy Halloween is in Crystal Cove but it ain't related to SDMI either.

Jeepers It’s The Creeper:
This was a really fun episode. The Creeper was a really great and creepy villain. Whenever he says paper, it sounds like he’s saying Creeper. Mr. Carswell as the Creeper wasn’t really that surprising.

The Hermit of the Hills was a bit creepy to me. I always thought that it was Carswell in disguise. He was just lonely and wanted some company.

The little chick was so cute. He thought Scooby was his mother and acted like a dog. The ending was cute when Scooby had to return the chick to it’s actual mother then all those other chicks hatched and Scooby became a “mother” again.

I enjoyed the Creeper. I could never tell if he was saying "Creeper" or "paper" as a kid haha.

Unpopular opinion but this episode is kind of middle of the road for Where Are You. I don't dislike it, but I would say it is towards the bottom of the series for me because so much of it was just the gang getting chased by the Creeper.

I wasn't surprised Mr. Carlswell was behind it all. The Hermit was very creepy. I also thought it was Carlswell in disguise, but it seems like maybe it wasn't. The episode keeps it kind of open ended.

Yeah, that chick was super cute! :)
