Just thought I'd share this since I found it super interesting...apparently, the Courage the Cowardly Dog and Scooby-Doo crossover was just going to be an episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who, but it was later developed into an entire film! Here's a link to the post in which this is said (in the comments).
Thanks so much to Deandre for bringing this comment to my attention!

Given this episode is a direct sequel to "Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hydes" from the original The New Scooby-Doo Movies series, Curse of the 13th Ghost and Return to Zombie Island got me really worried about how this episode would be. After watching it, I personally loved this episode and thought they did an amazing job. If this were what Curse of the 13th Ghost and Return to Zombie Island were like, I think it would have made fans at least somewhat happier.
I loved the tons of references to the original episode all throughout. These were the ones I caught: Velma and Fred's comments about turning at different landmarks at the beginning, the lights falling (an illusion to the lamppost nearly falling on Sandy), the angry director, Scooby making eyes at Sandy Duncan, the mummy and pyramids, the door scene where there is a saloon and a desert, Daphne being a stunt double, Bill Billington (the actor playing Mr. Hyde) as a suspect, luring Mr. Hyde out, and the dinosaur is possibly a reference to the dragon. Zalia Z. Fairchild making a reappearance was unexpected but very cool. The production stills showing clips from the original episode (and pictures of the Ghost of Hyde from Where Are You) was super neat, and kinda reinforced that the villain of this episode was almost a combo between the elements of the Sandy Duncan Mr. Hyde and the Ghost of Hyde from Where Are You. The updated versions of the dresses Sandy and Daphne wore in the original episode were fun. One thing I noticed is that the mummy from Liza Koshy's video, which also featured the Wolfman and Caveman from previous episodes, appeared in this episode. That maybe me wonder if maybe that episode was meant to come after this one. Speaking of the mummy though, it was neat how they played upon both the original episode and the New Scooby-Doo Movies' use of several villains per episode in general, but also made it their own by including two new villains: a dinosaur and a giant manta ray. The inclusion of them mixed with the two villains from the original episode (albeit redesigned) was a perfect balance to me. Sandy was once again a great guest star. She seems like such a sweet woman and she definitely did as good in this episode as she did in the original. I thought the ending of them making the movie in space was really dumb though. While this episode did have a lot of similarities to the original episode, it was done well enough where I didn't feel it was just a rehash of what had already been done. If they are going to make sequels to Scooby material, they're getting closer to the way it should be done IMO. This one was such a good episode, it makes top 3 for me, knocking Alton Brown's episode out of its short-lived run in the top 10. Before I conclude this post with my rankings, I want to also say that I really enjoyed this first half of the season and it makes me excited for the remaining 13 episodes! We actually already know seven of the guests we're getting, between KISS, Lucy Liu, Dynomutt and Blue Falcon, Jessica Biel, Alex Trebek, and Sean Astin. In addition, we know Jason Sudeikis, whose episode "Lost Soles of Jungle River!" has already aired in the UK. Some people are also suspecting the voice actors themselves will be a guest star due to a post made by Tracy Mark Lee a while back. The other six are unknown at this time. I'm not sure if we'll get another episode like this one. Not many of the guest stars are still alive, though Dick Van Dyke, Cher and one Harlem Globetrotter are still alive. I don't think we'll get the single Harlem Globetrotter, but I'd love if we got another Cher episode! The highlights of this first half of the season for me were "The Last Inmate!", "The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag!" and this episode. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Dreaded Remake of Jekyll & Hyde! 4. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 5. One Minute Mysteries! 6. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 7. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 8. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 9. Too Many Dummies! 10. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 11. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 12. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided This was another decent episode, and they worked in Macklemore well despite the fact that he is a rapper in a baseball episode. I loved the monster design, very original! It was a super cool reference how there's a picture of Bluestone the Great being unmasked on Macklemore's wall, as well as a video of the Cat Mummy from the Ricky Gervais episode. Him wanting super strong calves was kinda weird lol. I think, while not an amazing guest star, Macklemore did a pretty good job. I found the "everyone's angry in baseball" jokes to be kinda weird though.
One question though: is the old man that the Zombie Mascot kidnapped just dead then? He was never found, and the stadium blew up at the end without ever explaining what happened to the guy lol. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. The Internet on Haunted House Hill! 12. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 13. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 14. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 15. A Run Cycle Through Time! 16. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided This was a fun and different episode! Boy, that title is clunky as heck though, so much so that I thought the title was just translated wrong when we first heard about it from the German site.
The villain was pretty neat, especially with the haunted instruments and the fire. The spooky setting added a lot to this episode, IMO. Can we all agree we don't need to hear Shaggy say "bros" every again though? lol Scooby asking "what's a newspaper?" also felt dumb and like it was written by older individuals thinking "those crazy kids using their iPhone 27s and 9G smartphones!" I can't imagine kids don't even know what a newspaper is... I liked Liza as a guest star. I'd just recently become familiar with her in the Netflix movie "Work It" which was just released this past August, and was a film I liked. I'll admit, without ruining the culprit, I briefly suspected Liza as the villain because I thought she was trying to make a publicity stunt for a viral video. Speaking of her videos, I enjoyed the one at the beginning where the Caveman from two episodes ago and the Werewolf from season 1 showed up. That was a cool addition! Frank Welker didn't annunciate enough when he said "Woah! Check out that Koshy bump!" (referring to Koshy's publicity bumping up the videos popularity) as I had to turn the subtitles on to understand what he'd said there. Admittedly, I originally heard Fred say "Woah! Check out that Koshy bum!" and was like, that doesn't seem appropriate for a children's show lol! Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. The Internet on Haunted House Hill! 12. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 13. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 14. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided I really liked the robot as a villain in this episode! Even though robots have been done before, this was a fun change for the series. Laila Ali was another guest star that seemed super into the role and that made for an enjoyable episode. This is another one that easily could have been a What's New episode. Also, why does Shaggy imagine Scooby when he's meditating and trying to think of his inner self? That's kinda odd haha.
The villains, for me, have been very easy to guess though. I've guessed pretty much all of them and the mysteries haven't been too difficult to figure out. These last two reviews have been kinda short, but honestly there's not too much to say for them. They're very average episodes, though I felt Laila's was slightly better than the last two because she was more into her role. This has been a pretty good season though so far, and it's definitely a bit of an improvement over some of last season's episodes. No episodes besides "The Hot Dog Dog!" have made it into the bottom of my rankings thus far. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 12. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 13. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 14. A Run Cycle Through Time! 15. The Nightmare Ghost of Psychic U! 16. A Fashion Nightmare! 17. The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall! 18. The Crown Jewel of Boxing! 19. Scooby On Ice! 20. Caveman on the Half Pipe! 21. A Moveable Mystery! 22. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 23. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 24. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 25. The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament! 26. The New York Underground! 27. The Phantom, the Talking Dog, and the Hot Hot Hot Sauce! 28. Hollywood Knights! 29. Fear of the Fire Beast! 30. The Hot Dog Dog! 31. Quit Clowning! 32. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 33. Space Station Scooby 34. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 35. The Fastest Food Fiend! 36. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided This was another enjoyable episode! I was surprised that they reused the caveman from Where Are You's design, because that makes two episodes in a row that the villains were just reused Where Are You designs. It also makes two winter episodes in a row, which I believe is a franchise first! The Caveman was a great villain, and felt more menacing than the Where Are You because of the forcefulness of hitting things with his club, where he was actually able to destroy things and shake buildings whereas I don't think that was the case in Where Are You.
Chloe was a good guest star. Overall, no complaints about the episode! It almost felt like it could have been a What's New episode, honestly. For me, this episode is right below the last one. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 12. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 13. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 14. A Run Cycle Through Time! 15. The Nightmare Ghost of Psychic U! 16. A Fashion Nightmare! 17. The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall! 18. Scooby On Ice! 19. Caveman on the Half Pipe! 20. A Moveable Mystery! 21. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 22. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 23. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 24. The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament! 25. The New York Underground! 26. The Phantom, the Talking Dog, and the Hot Hot Hot Sauce! 27. Hollywood Knights! 28. Fear of the Fire Beast! 29. The Hot Dog Dog! 30. Quit Clowning! 31. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 32. Space Station Scooby 33. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 34. The Fastest Food Fiend! 35. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided Since I realize you may not have seen all these crossovers, the following is a list of where each villain is from:
Mr. Hyde - Dynomutt "Everybody Hyde" Lowbrow - Dynomutt "What Now, Lowbrow?" Swamp Rat and Mudmouth - "The Wizard of Ooze" Ghostly Gardener - Johnny Bravo "Bravo Dooby Doo" Grass Monster - Harvey Birdman "Shaggy Busted" Joker and Penguin - Batman: The Brave and the Bold "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases" Green Ghost - Supernatural "Scoobynatural" Control Freak - Teen Titans Go! "Cartoon Feud" This was another great episode! I enjoyed Tara as a guest star and the wintery setting of this episode was fun. It was really interesting how they had Simone appear again! For the fifth time in this series! The writers must really like her haha.
It was an interesting choice on the animators' part to just reuse the Snow Ghost design completely for the villain, but I didn't mind it. It also seemed like the old woman's Snow Devil legend may have been a reimagining of Fu Lan Chi's story from the original "That's Snow Ghost" episode. That reference to Flim Flam and 13 Ghosts was awesome! I was shocked they chose to reference it two episodes in a row! My only gripe with the episode is that it felt a bit too much time was spent having the Snow Devil chase after the skates. The trap started at the 14 minute mark and lasted almost 5 minutes of just the villain chasing the gang for those skates. This ranks as #18/34, so a pretty average episode but overall an enjoyable one to watch. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 12. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 13. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 14. A Run Cycle Through Time! 15. The Nightmare Ghost of Psychic U! 16. A Fashion Nightmare! 17. The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall! 18. Scooby On Ice! 19. A Moveable Mystery! 20. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 21. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 22. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 23. The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament! 24. The New York Underground! 25. The Phantom, the Talking Dog, and the Hot Hot Hot Sauce! 26. Hollywood Knights! 27. Fear of the Fire Beast! 28. The Hot Dog Dog! 29. Quit Clowning! 30. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 31. Space Station Scooby 32. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 33. The Fastest Food Fiend! 34. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided I liked this episode! Tim was a really good guest star and seemed into his role, and he had a nice presence in this episode. The monster was really cool as well, and solved the mystery of the zombie bellhop (or as we assumed) that appeared briefly in the clip show from "The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament!" My only gripe with the episode is that there didn't feel like there was great pacing in terms of the mystery.
I loved the reference to 13 Ghosts with Shaggy's red shirt! That was so clever! This episode was good, though it wasn't amazing and charted just above mid-way at #16/33. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 7. Elementary, My Dear Shaggy! 8. Too Many Dummies! 9. When Urkel-Bots Go Bad! 10. The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! 11. What a Night, for a Dark Knight! 12. Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus! 13. The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson! 14. A Run Cycle Through Time! 15. The Nightmare Ghost of Psychic U! 16. A Fashion Nightmare! 17. The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall! 18. A Moveable Mystery! 19. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 20. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 21. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 22. The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament! 23. The New York Underground! 24. The Phantom, the Talking Dog, and the Hot Hot Hot Sauce! 25. Hollywood Knights! 26. Fear of the Fire Beast! 27. The Hot Dog Dog! 28. Quit Clowning! 29. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 30. Space Station Scooby 31. Ollie Ollie In-come Free! 32. The Fastest Food Fiend! 33. A Mystery Solving Gang Divided I really liked this episode! This one was a nice take on the classic Frankenstein story and had a very original monster! The deep lore around the monster was a breath of fresh air and is something we didn't really get in the last episode with the gargoyle.
I thought Alton Brown did a great job as a guest star. He seemed super into the role and provided a great addition to the gang. Though I sort of suspected the villain was Alton himself, I thought it was a neat twist to have (almost) everyone be the villain. This is definitely one of the better episodes of this season so far and would definitely recommend it. Still can't get into that intro though, it's so annoying I have to skip it every time. :P How does this one rank up? This one actually cracks my top 10 just barely, knocking out "What a Night, for a Dark Knight!" Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. 16. The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall! 17. A Moveable Mystery! 18. Revenge of the Swamp Monster! 19. The Scooby of a Thousand Faces! 20. Now You Sia, Now You Don't! 21. The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament! 22. The New York Underground! 23. The Phantom, the Talking Dog, and the Hot Hot Hot Sauce! 24. Hollywood Knights! 25. Fear of the Fire Beast! 26. The Hot Dog Dog! 27. Quit Clowning! 28. Peebles' Pet Shop of Terrible Terrors! 29.
