So I know this news is a few days old, but I always try to wait for official confirmation before making posts about things, and thus I wasn't sure if I should mention it. A few days ago, a viral tweet of a person's private messages with Jerry Beck, an animation historian, blew up all over the Internet. The tweet claimed that WB had no plans to release any physical media after this year and they would be focusing more on adding content to streaming services like HBO Max, leading fans of numerous WB franchises including, Scooby-Doo, to believe that Warner Brothers would be completely discontinuing any physical releases after this year. However, Jerry Beck has responded to these claims in a public Facebook post, saying that his words were taken a bit out of context by all the different Internet rumors that stemmed from this tweet. So thankfully, Scooby-Doo fans (and fans of any other Warner Brothers shows and films, for that matter) can rest assured that Scooby-Doo DVDs will continue to be produced, and Scooby-Doo and some other Warner Brothers cartoons will begin to be remastered for HBO Max in the coming years.

I am not really suprised it did seem rather unsual that WB would move of all it's content to streaming. I only wish that more people would understand, that there is a big difference between streaming and and Physical Media. for example there is no way a 8gb 4k rip from streaming can possabily better since a 4k disc can can have a 32gb movie in size, that's a heck of a difference when you stop to think about it. I think some people sadly ingnore the fact, that a dvd or bluray usually have better audio and quality the the ones on streaming. also they are plenty of old 30s and 40s movies which are on dvd but not on streaming.

Yeah, rumors definitely have a way of circulating around the Internet. I personally prefer physical copies so I’m glad the rumors weren’t true!

I mean, despite his words... I admit to being worried about the WB archive shop, in December last year they moved to a "No Returns" model which... is rarely a good sign, it could just be because of covid but could also be a sign of them wanting to slow down, I have to also imagine starting to put their stuff on blu ray has kinda split the market again, some people like blu rays, but frankly unless it's the same price I don't see why I'd need a movie from the 40s on blu ray.

The WB Archive shop has entirely closed down to my knowledge as of April 1, and it was moved to just an Amazon store.

That's very possible. I guess it was shut down because of some behind-the-scenes changes in WB management, according to someone who says they have connections on the ScoobyAddicts forum.

Is there a reliable source on these facts? I would really hate to see Scooby-Doo DTV movies come to an end.

I'm a bit confused as to your question? The article says that physical media will not be discontinued and it was just an Internet rumor that they were going to be. The DTVs won't be coming to an end anytime soon I don't think.

Sorry, I was just searching for the facts. But I do believe you and the article. 4/25/2021 10:52:19 am
Gotcha, no worries. I basically just wrote the article to assure people that nothing was changing despite the rumors circling around, so basically whatever you believed before the rumors that WB was going to stop the DTVs in 2022 is what you should go back to believing, since none of what people were claiming is true.

I read the initial title and almost had a heart attack lol. Glad nothing is changing anytime soon. I love physical media and I'm consistently worried digital will phase it out as life goes on. I'm glad that even Guess Who was exclusively released to streaming (I think?) they still released season 1 on DVD, and will hopefully do the same for season 2.

Sorry to scare you haha. I'm also very worried that digital media is going to phase out, and I saw that viral tweet earlier this week before Jerry clarified things, so I was pretty worried physical media was going to stop being produced by WB. I'm glad it's not the case though. Yeah, Guess Who was released only to streaming, though in other countries (since Boomerang's streaming service is limited to the US), it was just aired on the Boomerang TV network. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a season 2 DVD!

I personally prefer DVDs myself, mainly because this format has by far more content available on it than Blu-ray.

That's a great point! You'd think it would be the other way around given Blu-Ray came after DVD (and how VHS/laserdisc got phased out), but I agree DVD seems far superior as to amount of content available.

some content can only be found on bluray thought, For example some Looney Tunes shorts can only be found restored on the Bugs Bunny 80th Anniversary Collection blu-ray.

I think my latest comment was perceived as spam for some reason, "awaiting moderation approval", lol

A ton of your comments were! I had to flag 6 of them as not "spam." That's super weird, though it was doing that to another regular commenter, Greybishop, for a bit too. I'm sorry about that. If the auto-spam moderation keeps acting up, I might just turn it off. It seems to block legitimate comments more than it actually blocks real spam lol. Most of the time the real spam seems to slip through.

That's what I get for being so defensive about TSDS season 3 lol. But on a more serious note, because the first couple of comments of mine that were flagged were on the post with over 320 comments, I almost thought for a bit that it just couldn't take it anymore and was crashing lmao 4/26/2021 04:36:21 pm
Hahaha I don't know why it suddenly decided to target you. I don't think there's any limit to how many comments can be posted and it was only blocking yours, not anyone else's. This is definitely the highest amount of comments on a post, though that Chronological Timeline one is still getting regular comments (even more lately) so it may surpass this one again at some point. I turned the auto-spam thing off now because it wasn't doing any good anyway. Most of the spam comments slipped through while random legit ones got blocked. Leave a Reply. |
