Weekly Poll #98

I included the four songs on the Witch's Ghost soundtrack sung by The Hex Girls, as well as "The Witch's Ghost" from the Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost credits and their brief cover of the What's New, Scooby-Doo? theme song in "The Vampire Strikes Back." I'd actually never heard those four soundtrack songs before a few weeks ago, and I have to say "It's a Mystery" and "Those Meddlin' Kids" are quite good!

Here are the results from last week's poll, and wow, this one was close!
What is your favorite two-part Scooby and Scrappy-Doo episode?
Happy Birthday, Scooby-Doo! - 20

The Nutcracker Scoob - 19
A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle - 18
Wedding Bell Boos - 13
Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts - 4
A Night Louse at the White House - 3
Sherlock Doo - 2

Off topic but I've started watching most the scooby movies (started at zombie island instead of your "first") and oof some of these are "well that's just another movie with them, there's some odd pockets where they aren't trying to make them unique or I'm just bored. Though some are cool, just finished Casey's last time at bat a few days ago, and that was kinda sad , but man that movie wasn't great... (to me anyway) but as I move into the Lillard era, seems interesting as it finally starts to sink in that we're just gonna keep having these going at 1-2 a year for a while

Also, very strange that they have like 3 series of these, there's the Scooby ones, the DC ones, and they switch out the third, like there was the Tom and Jerry ones and now that seems to be MK (for now at least)

I wonder why they stopped doing the tom and jerry movies was it to focus on the other dtv series or was the willy wonka and the chocolate
factory crossover they did so bad the WB went nope we are not going to do any more or don't they see tom and jerry as big of an money maker as scooby doo or DC?

From the outside (never been a Tom & Jerry fan, just always was on the cats side here...) I always saw them as weird, like they would never be allowed to be as violent as the originals, and none of them looked...great? Like I get a few trailers before the scooby movies and they look weird, spies, or going to Oz, and then I heard about the Willy Wonka thing, so frankly, I'm surprised they even got THAT far.

Interesting about Tom and Jerry and Willy Wonka. I think that that is one of only three good Tom and Jerry features. There was 10 minutes or so of nonsense I did not care for near the end but otherwise it was great. Fine pacing, funny humour, brilliant voice acting, and Tom and Jerry were wonderfully drawn and animated with very expressive poses and facial expression with enough variety to stop it from looking streamlined like ( Ahem .. Tom and Jerry Tales)

To be honest Tom and Jerry and Willy Wonka was met with with a rather negative reception, from lots of fans and critics. it got a lot of harsh and negative reviews and a some very negative feedback from lots of people. one reviewr wrote "Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is not just stupid, it's insulting. It's a cheap mockbuster with a cat and mouse artlessly, needlessly inserted."
I for one enjoyed the movie myself and I like most Tom and Jerry movies.

I personally enjoyed the WNSD era of films, but I agree Samurai Sword is probably the weakest of any of them (even though I still enjoy the film). Although I think fondly of the film as Casey's last time ever as Shaggy, the film wasn't particularly memorable in a lot of other ways to me. Yeah, I don't think their pattern of 2 DTVs a year is going to stop anytime soon. I've enjoyed most of the DTVs, I just wish they wouldn't lean so heavily on crossovers (though I did really enjoy Courage).

It is interesting how the Scooby DTVs can kind of be divided up into three series. I guess there's the 1998-2001 (the best era IMO), the classic/reboot era films where they got all the original voice actors to return, the What's New Scooby-Doo era films and then the current 2010-present era. I think you could maybe divide the current era up into a few different ones, like 2014 marked the start of all the crossovers, but I would say they're all pretty similar animation and tone wise.

I don't really hate any of them (minus Curse of the Lake Monster, just boring.... but Samurai Sword comes close, at least Goblin King is fun, and has the second best "dad" reveal outside of 'What's Up Doc?' (classic movie with Barbara Streisand))

The eras of scooby yea, you could split into a lot, they try different things and they almost seem to have the flavors of the series they're running against (this time I did notice they massively softened Witch's Ghost compared to Zombie Island) but I was talking more I guess the 3 different IPs they tend to use, Scooby, DC, and MK/Tom & Jerry/ Other

I didn't hate Curse of the Lake Monster. They did copy a bit too much from SDMI with all the relationship stuff, and it wasn't nearly as good as Mystery Begins, but I thought it had its enjoyable moments.

Ohhh gotcha. Yeah, they did soften Witch's Ghost in comparison to Zombie Island, though Witch's Ghost is still quite dark towards the end IMO.

I'm gonna have to go with Hex Girl. Not only was that the first song, but that's the only song that gets stuck in my head ever since I've see Witch's Ghost lol. I like Daphne's Trap of Love also.

That's my favorite too. It was really tough to pick, but that one's the catchiest of all the songs and always manages to get stuck in my head too haha.

I like all their songs which made it really hard to pick. In the end, I’m going to go with the Hex Girl. As that was their first song they ever played and they really rocked it.

The only ones I didn't care for were the two of them on the Witch's Ghost soundtrack: "Zoinks" and "Scooby Snacks." They were okay, but some of the lyrics felt repetitive, and even a bit cringey in the case of the latter.

Witch's Ghost is by far my favorite Hex Girls appearance as well. It fleshed them out as characters more than any other appearance to date has, arguably.

The music nerd in me wants to say Trap of Love. But I gotta go with Hex Girl as I prefer it to the other nostalgia choice of Earth Wind Fire and Air

That would be super cool if they released a full version! Unless I'm misremembering, we've never heard anything other than the chorus from that song in any episode/film.

That's my second favorite of their songs, but I feel like it's a toss up as to if "Hex Girl" or "Earth, Wind, Fire and Air" is catchier.

"Earth, Wind Fire and Air" (wind and air, literally the same thing!) first, with "Hex Girl" a close second.

I'm surprisingly disappointed with their cover of WNSD.

Ha! And yeah, their WNSD cover was just okay. It was cute, but it's my third least favorite from them. It's only beat out by "Zoinks" and "Scooby Snacks" from the soundtrack. I hadn't listened to either of those before a couple of weeks ago when I was doing research for my Hex Girls fanfic, and I found them both to be pretty cringey.
