I wanted to give a bit of explanation with this week's poll that when I say "main villain," I'm not including every random cameo a skeleton has ever made in the show to keep this manageable (i.e. the skeleton waving to Scooby in "Don't Fool with a Phantom," Shaggy and Scooby's brief conversation with a skeleton in "Hang in There, Scooby-Doo," etc.). I kept the poll to 'plain old skeletons' and didn't include any skeletal-type monsters, such as The Ghost of Buster McMuttMauler (who had skeleton hands) or The Slime Mutant. I did include the Screaming Skulls from "Elementary, My Dear Shaggy!" as I thought they had enough skeleton qualities to qualify. On the other hand, I did not include the Red Skull, as he wasn't really a skeleton and would more fit under the category of ghoul. "Fright House of a Lighthouse" is also in there for the skeleton crew of the Dauntless, who I would argue was a main villain of that episode. I'm happy to clarify why I included certain options in there, and if you feel I've made any oversights, you're always welcome to let me know.
Here are the results for last week's poll, which had the joke option come out surprisingly high. I didn't realize how much people apparently disliked sports on this site haha. What is the worst Scooby-Doo baseball-themed episode? Scooby Pinch Hits - 14 The 7th Inning Scare! - 9 All of them - 9 All the baseball episodes are awful, baseball in general is awful, in fact, all sports are just awful - 7 The Unnatural - 6 Grand Scam - 5 The Demon of the Dugout - 3 Also, I wasn't sure where else to put this, but for fun, I'd like to make a bold prediction and guess that the remaining episodes of Guess Who are going to finally come out in the US this Thursday or Friday (more likely Thursday). Let's see if I'm right haha.

I like all skeleton monsters. I went with Gentlemen Start Your Monsters. I remember being excited to see that episode because the idea of a skeleton driving a monster truck is pretty cool.

My favorite is Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers but A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle is a close second.

Some of these I usually forget have skeletons, like Cyber Chase or Lighthouse. They're great pieces of Scooby media, but I wouldn't think of them as skeleton centric.

Boo Brothers is definitely the winner for me too. The skeleton is one of the creepiest villains in the movie in his first appearance, and while I'm sure HB didn't intend it, the deviation between the first appearance and the rest of his appearances kind of hint it's possible that he could be one of the real ghosts in the film, which makes it even darker/creepier.

I actually really enjoy the Shaggy and Scooby antics and friendship in ACTITBT. I also think that the rest of the gang had a more interesting / pivotal part in this episode than in any other episode in the 1972 - 1979 era. 9/26/2021 11:00:48 pm
I enjoy Shaggy and Scooby's antics too, it just felt like it overshadowed the rest of the gang in this episode to me. I'd be interested to hear your perspective about how you felt they had a pivotal role in this episode, though!

I had the same issue with Cyber Chase and Reluctant Werewolf (even though Reluctant Werewolf didn't have all that great of a skeleton, but I loved the film).

The Skull Ghost from Boos Brothers was definitely the creepiest skeleton. Anyone else thought it was kind of weird that his red eyes disappeared for the rest of the movie? It made him kind of loose his creepiness. Anyone agree?

YES! It was very weird, and my head canon is that his first appearance was a real skeleton - just like how the ghost of Uncle Beauregard was sometimes real and sometimes fake - whereas the other appearances were the sheriff. You're right it makes him look a lot less creepy though. I'm sure the real explanation is just that the HB animators forgot they drew him with red eyes in the first scene, but I honestly like my theory better haha.

The reasons that I feel that the rest of the gang had a more pivotal role in A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle than usual.

Those are some really interesting points that I hadn't considered before! It's been so long since I've seen this episode, so I'm going to have to go back and rewatch with this perspective to see if I enjoy the episode more now. Thank you for sharing! :)

I mean, it just had to be cyber chase for me. But, there are others that are pretty good like Boo Brothers or El Bandito

lol, I'm glad you mentioned the skeleton from Hang in There, Scooby-Doo. Funny scene, but I always wondered what was up with that guy as he seemed so out of place.

Me too lol! I wonder if they were running a little short on airtime and just needed that scene for filler? It wasn't bad filler or anything though; it just seemed so random and completely unconnected to anything else going on in the episode.

Boo Brothers is the easy winner for me. When I think Scooby Doo skeletons, I think that one

Scary Sky Skeleton could have been a contender if it had just limited the plane based hijinks,, a type of shenanigans I did not like in cartoons even when I was 5 years old.

Yeah, I agree that the plane antics went on a little bit long in "The Scary Sky Skeleton."

Great list! I think you missed Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf, and "The Scary Sky Skeleton" in your rankings, though.
