I went with Camp Scare in the end but was considering Party like It's 1899 but I might change that if I'm allowed to

I forgot about Scoobynatural, and just added that! And yeah, I guess they did call Sia's doppelganger "ghostly" at a few points in the episode, so I added that episode as well. Thanks!

I really liked this episode as well! I agree the Ghost Truck was a very unique villain. I always found it interesting that in the Crystal Cove Online game, they created the character of "the Ghost Truck driver" for the boss battle (although it would have been hard to fight a truck lol). The subplot about the mayor was definitely interesting. I also liked Rung's character and the awful date he was for Daphne lol. Yeah, I liked that little reference to The New Scooby-Doo Movies too!

I love this episode and feel it's one of the best ghost episodes of the decade, as well as one of the best SDMI episodes. Hebediah Grim was a really unique villain, and I thought his design was super creepy. Ethan playing the drums in his backyard was hilarious. I agree the culprits were super obvious though.

Yeah, this episode was definitely among the more high-stakes plots of the series. I really like this episode too! I l never watched Sealab 2020, but it was cool they gave Tom, Tub and Scooby such a prominent role in this episode. I really liked the ghost of Abigail Gluck. The scene where it's revealed she's just a corpse is terrifying! The ending was super sad with Cassidy dying.

It has been a while since I've seen this episode, but I remember really enjoying it. I liked the villain as well. I loved the park ranger and Rick haha. The plot with Shaggy and Scooby was kind of funny and much better executed than their fight in SDMI. Yeah, I agree Chuck was a pretty obvious culprit. The treasure being an actual chicken was hilarious lol.

This was a great episode with a really good villain. I liked the plot of the gang posing as a cover band. The Panther Control thing and the fact that there was actually a panther hiding in the cupboard was hilarious haha. The reference to real-life bands were definitely fun and I thought they were incorporated well into the episode. I agree the culprit was pretty easy to guess. I liked the reveal being in song-form as well!

This was a great episode! The plot about Shaggy being nervous about his best man speech was really fun. I also was amused by him mistaking the ring for an olive haha. The Ghost of the Cliff Bride was an awesome villain and probably one of my favorites of the series. She was really creepy. It was fun that they concluded the best man speech plot by having Shaggy's explanation of the mystery be his speech.

This episodes also reminds me of Lights Camera Mayhem. Both episodes take place at a movie studio. The actors ghost returns to prevent a movie from being filmed/shown to the public. The chase scenes are quite similar with the gang running from the ghost through different movie sets and there’s some one with a bull horn and gets mad at them. Culprits are directors who wanted nothing to do with the movie.

This was a fun episode. I liked the Ghost Chef as the villain, and I liked the little twist that Fred was the one being quirky rather than Daphne. Mr. Junior was a really funny character, and I liked Zara talking slow too haha. I would not have guessed Zara was the culprit either. I also enjoyed the subplot of Velma having to choose between a position with the company or staying with the gang.

This episode reminds me of E-Scream. Both episodes involve the gang going to a vide game establishment. A video game convention, a video game company. Video game characters come alive and wreck havoc. Both episodes focused on Velma and her friends in different ways. In E-Scream, Velma was in a mystery solving game and solved the mystery with the character changes of her friends. In, Protein Titans 2 Velma had to choose between her working for the company for five years and getting 10 million dollars or staying with her friends.

This episode was just okay. I did not enjoy Kenan as a guest star and thought his jokes fell flat. There were a number of moments in the episode that felt kind of awkward, like Velma's uproarious laughter at the kid getting pied in the face. That said, I did like Pazzo as a villain and the references were kinda fun. The culprit was very obvious IMO.

This was a great movie, and I agree it was a cool mix of Phantom of the Opera and American Idol! The Phantom was a great villain! I thought all of the contestants were great side-characters. I was surprised by the twist of there being multiple phantoms at the end! The Fred/Daphne stuff was kind of sweet, but I also wish it wasn't written as if this were the first time they ever had feelings for each other (since it's strongly hinted at in other movies). That is a minor criticism though and otherwise it was a great film!

I really like this film too! It's one of my favorites of the decade. I really liked the Ghost of Dapper Jack as a villain! The El Kabong font was definitely an interesting reference to Quick Draw McGraw. I also thought Tawny was a good character. The multiple twists at the end were cool, with Dapper actually being the good guy and being real at the end.

Unpopular pick, but Legend of the Phantosaur for me! My favorite post-WNSD era film, thus it was the first choice that came to mind for me. Some other options I considered were Scoobynatural, Mystery 101, Grand Scam and any of the first 4 SDMI options (btw, it took me a while to even understand why The Midnight Zone was on this poll).

I really debated whether or not to include it since I don't think they ever say "ghost," but Abigail's floating head was very ghostly, she was dead, and I don't know what else you'd classify her as other than "big floating head" lol.

I start to think it's unfair to rate movies against episodes. At first I was like Alice May or Doo Not Disturb has to win, but with Camp Scare and Legend of the Phantosaur here, the quality goes in their direction, I didn't vote yet it's really hard!

Yeah, it is super hard when such iconic films are pitted up against episodes. I don't necessarily feel films in a general sense have any more of an unfair advantage than some of the classic Where Are You favorites do (except I guess maybe Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, Camp Scare because they're seen as so universally iconic across the franchise) If others are concerned about it being unfair, I'm happy to discuss it though.

I believe I can rank all of them except the last 3 and Shaggy's Showdown, and I'll also leave out Curse of the Lake Monster as I barely remember it and there are a lot of options anyway, so that leaves us with a resounding... 40 options left. This is going to be a long list

Yeah, I think the writers were trying to paint Gary and Ethan in a bad light for one last time, a worse light than ever in fact. But I definitely don't think their intentions were with the idea for the villain an plot, if anything just not executed the best (it is still one of my least favorite SDMI episodes after all)

@Matt, I don't really agree that the show was trying to find its footing. I know JCB said before that in season 2 they got the most freedom and he feels that was when the show was at its best (particularly the first part), but that doesn't mean they were still figuring out what the show was in the earlier days.
Reply
10/2/2023 10:53:09 am
I am sort of the middle here because I agree that the show found its footing very quickly, if not instantly, which "Mystery 101" showed. I think a lot of the issues was WB's meddling, as I feel there was a bit of an increase in quality from season 1 to season 2 when JCB had more freedom. Not necessarily a huge jump from season 1, but still a noticeable one where the humor felt stronger and the plots felt even better developed.
Becker
10/2/2023 12:27:38 pm
JCB might have mentioned those episodes specifically because he himself had less input on them. He had no part in writing Poodle Justice (incredible rare for season 1) and the shorts, and he was one of 4 writers on Kitchen Frightmare. So maybe he was just referring to himself being less involved with them while other members of the team had more creative freedom in those instances (just one guy wrote and directed the 2 shorts on his own even, that's kinda what creative freedom is at its finest). 10/2/2023 01:35:27 pm
I think you're likely right. I know JCB regularly lamented about how frustrating it was to not have full creative freedom. I don't really know how common it is to have that, but I imagine these days, there is a lot of executive meddling so I think it is probably uncommon to find any writing job for a show where you have full creative freedom. I think his main concern was feeling like those meddling didn't understand his creative vision for the series. I know he also hated that people at WB would just put random stuff in without consulting with him first. One example that comes to mind is that somebody put Scooby Snacks in "All Paws on Deck," which JCB was frustrated about because he'd planned to have "Sorcerer Snacks Scare" give a backstory to Scooby Snacks.
Becker
10/2/2023 03:36:08 pm
It's not common at all to be granted full creative freedom, but I have to say that Scooby shows have been dealt a good hand throughout most of the franchise's history, cuz they more often than not receive a good amount of freedom to do what they want (not full freedom, that's almost impossible, executives always have some say in it). Btw, the person who put the Scooby Snacks box in All Paws on Deck was the director of the episode, not a producer or WB suit. It's perfectly normal for directors to add their own flavor, adding or altering some stuff that isn't in the script. 10/2/2023 04:23:34 pm
Agreed, I don't think there has been any Scooby show where WB has taken near full creative control, at least not that we know of. I feel like the majority of Scooby shows have had at least some, if not a decent amount, of creative control. Oh okay, I didn't realize that.
Matt

@Becker, I disagree (with the original reply at least)
Becker
10/2/2023 10:27:13 pm
Daphne's quirks have always been hit or miss for me. All throughout the show it's almost like the flip of a coin. And Mystery 101 and Party Like It's 1899 being the first 2 episodes produced (despite the latter being aired as episode 8 in the US) are enough to convince me they found their footing instantly. I'd say Trading Chases and Be Quiet are really good, not on the level of Grand Scam, but still very good. Agree to disagree I guess.
