It's been an exciting week seeing all your results! I hope you all enjoyed this fun little experiment, and here are the results:
Scrappy-Doo: Don Messick - 93 Scott Innes - 12 Lennie Weinrib - 10 Fred: Frank Welker - 118 Freddie Prinze Jr. - 3 Robbie Amell - 1 I'm admittedly shocked that Frank Welker didn't get 100% of the votes! I'd be interested to know why the 4 people that voted for Amell or Prinze Jr. chose those options, if they'd be willing to share! Velma: Mindy Cohn - 66 Linda Cardellini - 25 Nicole Jaffe - 20 Kate Micucci - 20 B.J. Ward - 19 Marla Frumkin - 4 Hayley Kiyoko - 2 Pat Stevens - 2 Stephanie D'Abruzzo - 2 Christina Lange - 1 Sarah Gilman - 0 Shaggy: Casey Kasem - 100 Matthew Lillard - 72 Scott Menville - 11 Nick Palatas - 10 Scott Innes - 4 Billy West - 3 Daphne: Grey Griffin - 64 Heather North - 32 Sarah Michelle Gellar - 30 Mary Kay Bergman - 10 Sarah Jeffery - 3 Indira Stefanianna Christopherson - 3 Kate Melton - 1 Kellie Martin - 0 I'm surprised Grey got exactly double the votes that Heather got! Shockingly, Don takes the win with just a single vote away from Frank. Scooby-Doo: Don Messick - 68 Frank Welker - 67 Neil Fanning - 11 Scott Innes - 4 Hadley Kay - 0 I think I may have said my personal favorites in the comments, but if you didn't see them and are curious: Don Messick and Scrappy and Scooby, Casey Kasem as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Fred, Nicole Jaffe as Velma...and...I'm going to change my answer after rewatching Zombie Island again the other day...but I'm going to pick Mary Kay Bergman for Daphne. I really like her more mature version of Daphne in Zombie Island! This was a lot of fun, and I hope you all enjoyed the polls as much as I did! This poll made me curious though about what people's favorite live-action actors for each of the characters were, so maybe I'll do another week like this sometime in the future! Be sure to check back for another new weekly poll tomorrow.

The thing that surprised me is the number of participants. Well over 100 people on each poll is impressive.

This is between the site's Twitter account and the blog, and I usually just do the blog. Still is pretty impressive though I think.

How tf did Don almost lose to Frank? I thought that would be an easy win. I was sure there would be more competition for Shaggy than Scooby.

I would think so too! A lot of the Frank Welker answers came from Twitter, not from the blog, but that still doesn't really explain why people liked Frank so much better.

I think it's because of people caught up in the hype for Scoob. I'm sure if you included the other Scoob voices, they would've been 2nd or 3rd place each. That kind of stuff happens with every community when something new comes out. 4/12/2020 11:04:17 am
Good point. I didn't want to include the SCOOB! voices because we've barely heard anything from any of those actors/actresses yet, and what we have heard is not enough to judge them on. I know people are already on the "Will Forte is the worst Shaggy ever!" train, when we've only heard maybe 10-20 lines from him.

Sorry but Frank Welker nowhere near the same level as Don in regards to Scooby. Scooby is known for his trademark pronouncing words with an R and I've think that has been lost in recent years with Scooby's voice becoming more and more normal and lacking its original character. I hope whoever takes over from Welker for Scoobs voice in future will return to Messick's version and put more of a soul and unique nature back into Scooby's voice.

Even though I like Welker, I definitely agree with this. I especially hate how in Guess Who, they have Scooby talk in paragraphs as a joke...that's totally out of character for him and not at all funny, IMO.

I don't think Scooby's rhotic replacement is that big of a deal. Scooby hasn't been talking in Rs for years now, cuz it was hard for some people to understand him. They only removed his speech impediment, not his actual voice, so it's fine for me.

His speech impediment was not necessarily even happening in the 70s. I remember, I think it was "A Highland Fling with a Monstrous Thing" from The Scooby-Doo Show, that Scooby wasn't talking with Rs several times. Not as much as he isn't now, but still.

I'd agree with this but still having him pronounce some words with Rs would be nice as he's a dog and can't really speak properly. 4/13/2020 01:45:36 pm
Yeah, I think we're saying the same thing. It's a small problem but not the biggest problem is all I was saying.
