Note that I did not include Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island as an option, as Morgan Moonscar was not one of the main villains, and I also felt the film would have an unfair advantage over the other options here.
We have a pretty surprising winner for last week's poll! It’s Go Away Ghost Ship for me. But whenever that episode airs on Boomerang, it airs in a really weird formatting. I don’t really know how to explain it, but it’s been airing on Boomerang in this weird format for the last like 15 years. All of the characters voices sound unusual.

I've heard about that. From what I understand, they have a copy of the episode that plays at 1.1x speed, which is why everything sounds unusually sped up. TV stations used to play reruns of some cartoons that were sped-up so that the episodes would end faster and they could air more commercials. They stopped doing that though, so I'm not sure why Boomerang still has a sped-up copy, but I've heard about it (and maybe even seen it) too.

Honestly, the episode is a little nostalgic for me that way 7/9/2023 01:40:25 pm
That's really fun! I never really paid attention to the intro on Boomerang, but I remember the intros on the tapes my parents recorded of all the 60s and 70s reruns from the USA Network had all the episodes sped for extra commercials (and they still cut scenes despite that).

Okay this one should fall out pretty easily for me. Half Beard’s Booty is one of the last Be Cool episodes I haven’t seen, but other than that I guess let’s go

7 - I won't lie the setting restricts this episode a lot but it makes up for it with absolute sheer terror at the thought that you are stuck on a boat, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by monsters with no way of escape

That’s a pretty good point. The atmosphere in the episode is really nice. Maybe not to the level as most of season 2 or Harum Scarum Sanitarium, but still good. I guess it is just that the plot never really grabbed me the same way as many episodes of the season.

That's fair. It's what I find so interesting on here, everyone has there preferences and what made their childhoods. Although WAY will always remain the standout series, across the rest of the series people's preferred episodes vary so much which I think is a testament to just how well Scooby has done across time, aside the Scrappy shorts. There are never any wrong answers, rather just another discussion waiting to happen. 7/11/2023 10:21:54 am
That's one of my favorite things about this blog as well, I love how different and unique everybody's perspectives are on here. Yeah, the fact that we have so many different amazing Scooby-Doo series from over the years definitely goes to show how incredible and versatile the franchise is.

It’s truly fascinating. You have things that have near unanimous praise, near unanimous dislike, but a lot of the interesting discussions come from the in-between 7/9/2023 01:58:21 pm
12. Blowout Beach Bash - The worst film of the franchise for me, so this was an easy choice for last place. The 5-minute long "Blowout Beach Bingo Bash" song is abysmal.

6. You know what? After rewatching it in full, I’m with you. This episode is hilariously bad, but still hilarious enough to where I kinda end up liking it anyway. And while these pirates are not on the same level as Sassy Fred of course, they deserved to be stanned as well

Also for number 3, I find it hilarious that this bumbling buffoon of a Redbeard might’ve done the least work to successfully fool the gang ever. He basically just got out some Halloween decoration that projected ghosts and they just instantly surrendered lol 7/9/2023 05:17:52 pm
6. Glad I'm not alone in enjoying that episode for its hilariousness haha. No one could get near the level Sassy Fred, but these pirates definitely still deserve recognition lol.

3. Perhaps his true calling was a financial advisor rather than being a crooked oilman LOL 7/9/2023 09:50:32 pm
What a great idea for the next Scooby series! Perhaps that's just what we need to make the next Scooby series not as generic as Guess Who: a zany spinoff involving this version of Redbeard becoming a financial advisor, featuring his three crew members as his coworkers! lol

I think I am going to have to add Financial Advisor Redbeard to my stan list, I am sure that would make for an excellent change of pace of a tv show. Truly groundbreaking

I guess if Iron Face counts, it is going around Sandy Duncan’s Jekyll and Hyde because I don’t really think of it as a pirate episode tbh

Oh wow, Krypto, Too won. I hope this movie doesn’t get its ranking when it’s released because of the fact it was leaked so it was already an unsettling bias to begin with. Hope the movie will be treated fairly and seen as the movie it is. Hope to answer some questions to further peoples love when it releases….

I was surprised it won as well, but it seems to be popular on this site given it was one of the top choices out of all the movies for the setting poll we did a few weeks ago too. And yeah, I like Captain Pescado too, both for his design and his name haha.

Shouldn’t these episodes be on here since they are the closest things to pirates.

I would say that's a bit too much of stretch, since Iron Face isn't specifically said to be a pirate, and the other three are ghost captains which aren't quite the same as pirates. Thanks for suggesting these, though!

In the old iron face episode, I believe Mama Mione said the old iron face was pirate criminal. The others yah they were ghost captains not really pirates. 7/9/2023 05:19:22 pm
I don't remember that bit, but I'll go back and rewatch later to double-check to see if it should be added.

I really wanted to vote for that one, but "Go Away Ghost Ship" is just a bit better. Those two, Ghostly Creep and Pirates Ahoy were all pretty close for me. I do really appreciate Where's the Crew for how creepy it is.

Pirates Ahoy was an extremely unique and interesting movie definitely. Go Away Ghost Ship is a Classic although Ghostly Creep is also pretty decent especially with the inclusion of the Globe Trotters. 7/11/2023 09:34:40 am
Like I mentioned in a comment above, the appeal of Ghostly Creep for me is that it's kind of a goofier take on Redbeard, but the setting of the inn still does a good job of creating a creepy-feeling atmosphere.

This is the best pirate episode IMO. Redbeard is an iconic villain. I also like that scene where the picture of him comes alive. I don't think I guessed it was C.L. Magnus either when I first saw the episode.

That's really cool this was your first episode, given it was a more obscure episode that wasn't on DVD for a while. I liked all the villains as well and it was overall a very good episode. I thought Sandy Duncan made a great guest star! I still like the original Hyde a bit better, but this one was still pretty good!

This was a great movie, and would have definitely been my vote if "Go Away Ghost Ship" wasn't here. It's one of my favorites of the WNSD films. I really liked all the villains as well, and it's easily one of the most iconic pieces of Scooby-Doo media featuring a pirate. It was really cool they included the Bermuda Triangle plot; I thought it made a great addition to the film and fit with the pirate mystery very well. I had guessed it was those two so I wasn't all that surprised. I didn't guess Captain Skunkbeard's identity, though. Yeah, the trap they used was really neat and detailed! I thought it was a really neat twist that everybody was hypnotized! I really liked the inclusion of Fred's parents as well. They were such sweet people, which was a huge contrast to how they were portrayed in SDMI.

I enjoyed this too and don't quite get why so many people dislike it. I thought it was a nice reboot of Pup. I liked both of the villains. Even though they were pretty silly, I thought they fit well with the sillier tone of the original Pup show. I also thought the double mystery was really cool. It would be amazing if we could get another animated movie that was a reboot to A Pup Named Scooby-Doo!

I don’t know if “dislike” is the right word for me, I just thought it was really strange. Also, not huge on the puppets and would rather have an animated Pup movie personally 7/12/2023 01:24:13 pm
Yeah, I agree it would have been better if it were animated. The puppets didn't bother me, although I know a lot of people didn't like them. Leave a Reply. |
