 We've been doing these sports polls every other week since February (technically September if you count the baseball poll), but now it's time for the Winner's Circle sports poll! Each of the options for this poll are the winning options from each of the sports polls from the past few months. Now, it's time to see what the favorite sports episode overall is. You might notice that two options are included from the basketball poll. As you may remember, that poll ended in a tie between "The Loch Ness Mess" and "The Mystery of Haunted Island," so I included both of those options. I'm also admittedly still surprised "Scooby Pinch Hits" made it this far, especially when we had "The Unnatural." I'm excited to see which option wins!

The second half of Loch Ness Mess is just that a mess. I love Uncle Nath and the premise but as soon as they get to the lake the culprits are revealed way to quickly for me, Haunted Island is better in my opinion. 5/15/2022 02:09:31 pm
That is honestly a fair criticism, as they do make the villains pretty easy to figure out in the second half, but I still love it despite its flaws.

I am not really sure that the villain’s identities really need to be kept a secret here. I actually appreciate that episodes like this and Phantom of the Country Music Hall subvert expectations and focus on the rest of the episode rather than the whodunnit part of Scooby Doo. It is something where I am glad it wasn’t done all of the time, but it allows for the focus to be with the atmosphere, setting, guest star interactions, etc. And the Loch Ness Mess has all of those elements done masterfully

Very good argument, I think for me there is a lot of nostalgia to with Haunted Island from my childhood. I'd have to agree the mystery is probably lacking in Haunted Island to, although the whole who's the villain is a little less obvious and I feel overall the location and setting is better and more incline with Scooby Doo. 5/16/2022 12:37:55 pm
Matt's opinion on "The Loch Ness Mess" is very similar to mine. Ironically though, I don't really like "The Phantom of the Country Music Hall" nearly as much as most Scooby-Doo episodes for that reason. It sort of goes back to the first impression conversation we were having on the comment thread for last week's poll. I remember being super disappointed when I was younger that the Phantom wasn't actually a tangible villain. I kept expecting an actual Phantom to show up, so the fact that it was just a Viking and Davy Crockett appearing for the last few minutes of the episode was a big let-down for me, and made me dislike the episode. I've grown to appreciate the episode more over the years, but it's still one of my least favorites of the series for not really having a good villain IMO. I do appreciate the atmosphere/mystery of "The Phantom of the Country Music Hall," even if I'm not big on the episode. I think "The Loch Ness Mess" did it a lot better.

See, many of those issues you have with Country Music Hall are actually strengths to me. I absolutely adore the fact that the Phantom is just a threat, and I love how the “monsters” only show up when they need to and let the setting and atmosphere do all of the work to make the episode creepy (which it certainly is). That's a really neat perspective on the episode! I've grown to sort of appreciate it for those qualities you mentioned, but I haven't quite come around to it yet haha. 8. Scooby Pinch Hits - I'm also shocked "The Unnatural" didn't win this! It's an okay episode; "The Unnatural" basically had this exact same premise and did it way better.

I just cannot imagine for the life of me how Scooby Pinch Hits would win over The Unnatural or even Demon of the Dugout… Like there are always a few outliers but a majority? Truly shocking. I guess I forgot from back when the results were officially announced lol 5/16/2022 12:41:34 pm
I was extremely confused by that as well. In general, the votes for that poll were very split with "The 7th Inning Scare" also beating out "The Unnatural" with 9 votes, the joke "everything's awful" option getting 7, and "The Unnatural" getting 6. Tbh, I think it's one of the most divisive polls we've had on the blog. The votes were super spread out among all the options.

Great rankings! I'm admittedly confused about the couple of comments thinking "Grand Scam" should have been included, since it didn't win the baseball poll. "Scooby Pinch Hits" won it with 14 votes, and "Grand Scam" came in second-to-last place with only 5 votes. "The Unnatural" also isn't an option in the poll. Just to clarify any confusion, this poll is combining all the winning options from all of the sports polls and pitting them against each other; it's not a baseball episode poll. That was done separately from all the other polls back in September, before I decided to do the series of sports polls. I only included the picture since the title of the DVD was "Sports Spooktacular."

That's a close second for me, but "The Loch Ness Mess" is my favorite Scooby episode of any series so the other options didn't have much of a chance here haha.

Sorry about the confusion. This isn't a baseball poll; I did a baseball poll back in September. This poll is combining all the winning options from the sports polls I've done these last few months and pitting them against each other. "Grand Scam" was in the baseball poll back in September and got 5 votes, but "Scooby Pinch Hits" got 14 votes and that's why it's in this Winner's Circle poll, instead of "Grand Scam." Hope that clarifies things!

I really wish I could have voted both this one and the two Globetrotters episodes! They're some of the best Scooby episodes of all time IMO.
