This one is a no brainer, Spooky Space Kook. Scariest alien ever and really great episode.

It's one of my favorite alien episodes too and it was really tough to choose, but I think I have to go with Alien Invaders. I like the more mature plot where the gang is older. Not to say this episode was immature, I guess I just like Alien Invaders slightly better. It was a very tough decision though.

For some reason I chose In Space, even though Spooky Space Kook would be the obvious answer.

Same here. It was really tough deciding but I just like the mature/dark tone of that 1998-2001 era slightly better, even though "Spooky Space Kook" is an epic episode.

I did think about including that one, but I ultimately didn't since it was just a UFO and the skeleton men were never explicitly stated to be aliens. Does anyone else feel I should have included this? I'm happy to go back and this is as an option if others feel it was an oversight.

Spooky Space Kook:
This was a really great episode. Spooky Space Kook is arguably the scariest alien. His laugh just gives you nightmare. Man the opening with the flying saucer in the sky and Spooky Space Kook slowly walking then he laughs is just beyond scary. It was also cool that we saw multiples of him.

There a lot of comedy bits in this episode. The best one is when Shaggy and Scooby jump out the window to get the key and unlock the door and escape.

I've been busy and wasn't able to comment for a while and missed some polls, but I made it for this one!

I have to go with Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders. I liked the overall tone of the movie. Even though the Aliens weren't creepy, they still had cool designs. I liked that Shaggy and Scooby's love interests were real aliens at the end.

It was hard to pick between Space Kook and the one from Be Cool's In Space. I've been binge watching Be Cool Scooby Doo lately so it was a hard decision lol.

Glad to have you back! :) I agree the aliens had very cool designs, even though they weren't all that creepy. The ending of this movie always makes me super sad because I wish Crystal and Amber could have stuck around for Shaggy and Scooby.

I would have to go with the Space Kook second, then In Space third. They're both amazing episode, but Space Kook is such a classic and has a little bit of a charm to it that In Space doesn't quite duplicate (even though it's still an amazing episode).

A Creepy Tangle In The Bermuda Triangle:
This episode had a lot of creepy stuff. The UFO kidnapping planes, the Skeleton Men, the old see dog and the setting of Diablo Island.

I really like that the plot of this episode is centered around The Bermuda Triangle, the place where aircrafts and ships disappeared.

This was indeed a creepy episode and the villains were neat. I wish they weren't just skeleton suits though, as that makes it pretty clear they weren't skeletons. The episode also felt like it ignored Fred, Velma and Daphne in favor of Shaggy/Scooby antics, which makes me not like this episode quite as much as some others. I do enjoy it, though.

Strange Encounters of a Scooby Kind:
I liked this episode. The alien in this episode was creepy. It was pretty interesting that Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy were on a another planet with the alien even though it was all fake.

I also like that Shaggy mentioned Luke Skywalker. I think this is the first episode to reference Star Wars.

Return of Commander Cool has a lot in common with Super Teen Shaggy!
The idea that he did it once makes it more likely that a reoccurrence of sorts could be triggered. Be it Commander Cool, Super Teen, the Blue Scarab, Blue Falcon, etc.., Shaggy has always looked up to superheroes, for they are strong and fearless, while Shaggy is skinny and cowardly. He wants it to rub off on him.
I think it was no accident that the Superstars 10 movies were made just before Pup. For in that show, Shaggy's affinity for Commander Cool made him into the character he is in those three movies, less cowardly, more serious, and more take charge of his destiny.

You make a great point about Shaggy being inspired to be more brave through how he looks up to superheroes! I wonder if the plot of "Return of Commander Cool" was at all inspired by "Super Teen Shaggy."

Scooby Doo and The Alien Invaders:
This movie was phenomenal. The alien invaders were cool and creepy villains. It was pretty scary that they would kidnap and experiment on people (Lester, Shaggy and Scooby).

Shaggy and Scooby going gaga over Crystal and Amber is the best part of this movie. I really like the song, Groovy about the four of them being together.

It was a surprise seeing Crystal and Amber are actual real aliens and they helped saved the day. It was really sad that they waved goodbye to everybody and left Shaggy and Scooby who were really heartbroken. It was sweet they they gave them a kiss. Maybe they’ll cross paths again one day.

The aliens were definitely super scary, but Crystal and Amber are the standout aliens of this movie. Space Ape at The Cape:
I liked this episode. I like the idea of an alien egg hatching and an alien comes out and throughout the episode he is growing. It was also cool that he had the ability to give people an alien rash as shown on the captain.

It was cool seeing scientists in the background looking like the Professor ( Scooby Doo and a Mummy Too), Helga and Dr. Jekyll( Nowhere to Hyde), and Professor Ingstrom ( Scooby’s Night With A Frozen Fright).

In this episode, Velma is getting her project launched in Space. The same thing happen in Dawn of The Space Shuttle Scare from previous series (APNSD). Also in both episodes were preventing the launch to happen and people were upset that Velma’s project got chosen over theirs.

Aliens Among Us:
This episode had a pretty interesting plot. Sheriff Stone being menaced by aliens at a young age and coming back to cause more trouble. I like that each alien was a different species. It was pretty neat that they were just stealing things throughout the episode.

Man the ending was so intense. Brad and Judy setting city hall on fire.

Scooby Doo Moon Monster Madness:
This was a very enjoyable movie. I like the idea of the gang going on space cruise ship along with other people. The humor in this movie was funny and the side supporting characters were great.

The alien had a very cool design and was pretty scary. Shannon Lucas is probably the most diabolical and non supernatural villain they ever met. She was just going to leave them there and blow up everything while she would make it back safely to earth. How the gang and everyone else came back to earth in a heroic fashion and reveal everything about Shannon Lucas was awesome.

This move had a lot of references. Sly Baron is based off Richard Branson. This movie has a lot of similarities to the film, Alien. Ridley is a parody of Ellen Ripley, HAM is based on Ash, the alien design is just like the Xenomorph. They also have the same powers. Astronauts, Zip Elvin and Colt Steelcase are based off real veteran astronauts, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. NASA is mentioned. Shaggy watching a show about gremlin on a plane from Twilight Zone. Ham painting a portrait of Sly. That’s from an infamous scene form Titanic.

Area 51 Adjacent:
This was a nice episode. The opening was funny with those kids trying to take a picture. The setting of Area 51 was very original. I always thought there would be an alien mystery that takes place at Area 51 and they did it. The idea of Area 53 is pretty unique. It was funny when Shaggy and Scooby were running and getting cat in snakes, cactuses and chainsaws.

The alien was creepy and it was funny and cute that Daphne wanted to be his friend.

The interrogation was funny, General Stall was funny and I like how he made the reference to 70s that Scooby Doo was around that time.

In Space:
Man this was the creepiest alien episode. The Skull alien was so cool. I like the idea of him contaminating people and the thing with people not trusting anyone because they don’t know if they are infected. When people would talk and their voice got deep and then the head switched into The Skull Alien was so freaky.

Shaggy, Scooby and the Skull Alien going through the worm whole and going through previous episodes was a fun idea.

Fred frighting with contaminated Fred is like just like Fred fighting Brad Chiles as Fred from The Man In The Mirror.

The alien in this episode was pretty scary and creepy. Man the combination of those red eyes, those teeth and those pincers just gives you nightmares. Terry Bradshaw was a great guest star and I love the football gags and references.

That's a lot more alien Scrappy shorts than I thought. Also 3 episode titles referenced Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" from 1977 in the span of 5 years after its release.

This is probably the best roster of episodes & films featuring the same type of monster. There's so many awesome ones here, and none that I actively dislike (maybe except for a few of the Scrappy shorts, but they all blend into each other, idk which ones I prefer there).

Space Kook and In Space are the best original-remake double of the franchise, they're both incredible and in the top 3 of these options. Space Kook is just slightly better, and I think In Space is the best Be Cool episode.

There's also a lot of underrated and overlooked alien episodes inside a lot of different Scooby shows, like Bermuda Triangle, Area 51 Adjacent, Aliens Among Us, Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts, Space Ape at the Cape etc. I really like to love all of those.

I feel like aliens inherently make an episode more interesting, creepy and entertaining and even unique considering the many very different iterations of aliens we've seen throughout the franchise. You're not able to have as much diversity with any other monster as you can with aliens imo.

Feels strange we only have 2 alien movies though. And while Moon Monster Madness is a lot of fun, the other film, Alien Invaders, is my pick for this poll. It's so great that it's better than all these amazing episodes. That's an accomplishment. And it's funny how as a kid I would've said it's the weakest of the Innes Gold Era films, but now I think it's the second best, just behind Zombie Island. It gets better and better. Easy top 5 Scooby movies.

Yeah, there were definitely a lot of Scrappy shorts featuring aliens haha. I wasn't thinking about the fact that they were all so close to the release of that film, but that's crazy.

I agree that the aliens are consistent pretty awesome villains. There aren't really any episodes that I dislike here. Some of the Scrappy shorts are just okay and not very memorable, but none were bad. You make a great point about how the diversity of aliens in the franchise and the freedom they have with designs that a lot of other monsters don't have.

I love all of the episodes you listed too, and I will tell you right now that none of those got any votes (unless someone suddenly votes for them in the next few hours). Definitely shows that they're underrated.

It does feel kind of odd we only have two alien films. Alien Invaders is by far the most memorable, and also my pick for this poll. Ironically, I was the same as a kid. It felt like the weakest of the era to me. My opinion hasn't changed as drastically as yours, but it has gone up a spot and is my third favorite (Cyber Chase now being last). Witch's Ghost takes second place for me, with Zombie Island obviously taking firstI wouldn't quite make my top 5 since all three of the 80s movies do, but it would probably be my #6.

Sorry I forgot to credit you for the poll idea, btw. I honestly thought I had, but I just had a thought that I hadn't and I see I was right. I edited the post and credited you now.

Every single alien episode/film brings something different to the table with the alien stuff (even the Scrappy shorts). You could make an entire Scooby show just based on aliens (though I don't know if I would want just aliens in a Scooby show).
Tbf, Space Kook, Alien Invaders and maybe In Space take a lot of the spotlight for being so damn awesome, so I'm not shocked most of the others didn't get votes.
I would put Alien Invaders as my #4. Zombie Island, Boo Brothers and Reluctant Werewolf are my top 3.

12/12/2021 05:46:31 pm

Absolutely agreed! I wouldn't mind seeing all aliens in a Scooby series if it was a short series, say maybe a 13-episode show with only one season.

Where does Ghoul School and Witch's Ghost rank for you, out of curiosity?

Becker
12/13/2021 01:34:10 am

Witch's Ghost is maybe 7th. It's my least favorite Innes film, which is unpopular. Don't get me wrong, I do really like it, I just don't think it's one of the best. Ghoul School is around #15, not sure the exact place. I've always thought it's not nearly as great as Boo Brothers and Reluctant Werewolf. I just don't find all that engaging personally, but it is still good.

WildwindVampire
12/13/2021 08:43:25 am

Wow! I have to admit I wasn't expecting Ghoul School to be quite that low. Makes sense though if it wasn't that engaging to you. What's your #5? (I was expecting it to be Ghoul School or Witch's Ghost)

Becker
12/13/2021 10:08:47 am

Ghoul School is good, I just don't think it's great. #5 is Cyber Chase and #6 is Loch Ness Monster (that's another unpopular pick, but I really enjoy this movie and find it underrated)
