A teaser for Velma has been released following the panel at NYCC. The teaser is a parody of Scream, and wittily seems to address the online backlash to the series by having Velma complain to HBO Max about a fake series that changes Judy Jetson's character. Some other context clues can also be picked up from the teaser, that being that Velma's relative is missing, as a poster that says "Missing: Deya Dinkley" can be seen on the wall. A note reading "call Norville" is also on Velma's computer. The series will take place in Crystal Cove, as per a poster on Velma's wall saying "Crystal Cove Fog Fest." I have to admit, I give them mad respect for addressing the Internet hate the show is getting in such an amusingly satirical way. Particularly the line "If there's one thing the Internet agrees on, it's that you should never change anything ever!" is great lol.
For those who were worried about Frank Welker not being in this series, there was some good news announced at the panel. Frank Welker will be voicing Fred's father in this series according to the series page on Twitter.
There was also an interview conducted with Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling at New York Comic Con. They confirmed that there will be one overarching mystery of the show of a serial killer. The teaser trailer also announces that the show will premiere sometime in 2023.
The cast for the first season has also been announced on Deadline, including brand new casting for the entire gang. Constance Wu will voice Daphne, Sam Richardson is voicing Shaggy, and Glenn Howerton will take over the voice of Fred for this series. Jane Lynch, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak, and Karl-Anthony Towns will play unknown voice roles in the series. Two guest stars from Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, Wanda Sykes and Weird Al Yankovic, will also be voicing a character.
Check out the interview below. For some reason, the first five minutes are just a static screen saying the interview will start soon. I don't know why they didn't edit that out of the final video, but regardless, just skip the first five minutes as there's no content.

To those who will watch, I truly hope y'all enjoy.

The animation looks absolutely gorgeous, Mindy as Velma just sounds excellent, and the sardonic humor and the horror edge really make this teaser something amazing. I feel very lucky that we have this series coming out and it looks really good based off of this! Also Sam Richardson as Shaggy?!?! COUNT ME IN! I love Sam Richardson!

I think the animation is great too! I think Mindy sounds very natural as Velma and I enjoyed the sardonic humor. I don't know any of the main voice actors from anything previous so I'm excited to see how they sound.

Where do you stand on the first look of Norville?
10/8/2022 09:53:44 am
I think Norville looks quite good.
10/7/2022 12:12:12 am
How will the Velma series introduce Scooby-Doo?
10/7/2022 12:49:52 am
I like Mindy Kaling's Velma voice. I don't know if the scene in the teaser will even be in the show or if it was created specifically for the trailer. It kinda gives off the vibe of the latter, but if it is in the show, then this will meta and beyond af lol.
10/7/2022 01:53:54 am
Then this will be*
10/7/2022 02:59:51 am
Oops, both of us got confused, Frank plays Fred's dad, not Velma's.
10/7/2022 07:57:55 am
I really liked Mindy's voice too! I have a feeling this was just a random teaser and not actually a scene from the show, but that would be hilarious if it was haha.

My Internet is being super glitchy right now and the post isn't saving, so it may be a bit before I'm able to fix it.
10/7/2022 08:46:08 am
I'm so excited. Loved the teaser and how ironic it is. Also Constance Wu as Daphne yessss I love her on Fresh Off The Boat, so talented and funny.
10/8/2022 09:51:12 am
Me too! I think I'll enjoy this if that's the humor style they're using in the show.
10/7/2022 11:30:18 am
I like Mindy’s Velma voice as well (Mindy’s have seemed to have great Velma voices lol). Also, I found the ironic humor very well done. I am impressed with what I just saw

Mindy Kaling puts her own unique twist on Velma's voice while still sounding completely like Velma. Matthew Lillard style I guess. Pretty sure this scene was created for the teaser specifically (it would be wild to imagine the context of this scene in the actual show), but it gives a good indication of the tone, vibe and approach the show will take.
10/7/2022 12:51:26 pm
I think so too, but I would think it would give a good indication of the writing of the show and their humor

10/8/2022 09:52:30 am
Agreed! Mindy sounds just like Velma to me, which I know was a big concern for some people, so I'm glad the voice sounds so good. It does kind of feel similar to how Matthew Lillard put a spin on Casey's original voice.
10/8/2022 11:15:28 am
Really? People were concerned even about that? I never doubted that she would pull off a good Velma honestly. Mindy's Velma voice sounded closest to the other Mindy's Velma, lol.
10/8/2022 08:38:59 pm
I feel like I had read a few comments from people that we're concerned about that, yeah. People seem to bend over backwards to find problems with this show, lol.
10/8/2022 02:31:15 am
Excited for this!

Is addressing and jabbing at fan criticisms of a show good or bad?
10/8/2022 03:39:43 pm
Depends on how you execute it. I'd say in this case they executed it very well
10/8/2022 08:34:06 pm
10/11/2022 06:29:02 pm
That was. Well done trailer I can't wait for the show
10/11/2022 10:02:23 pm
Agreed! I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, tbh.
