The official press release for Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo has been released, revealing the film will be released digitally on October 4, and released on DVD on October 18 in the US. The cost to buy the film digitally will be $14.99, whereas the cost of the DVD will be $19.98 ($24.98 in Canada). The film will be written by Mike Ryan, and directed/produced by Cecilia Aranovich Sam Register will be the executive producer (although note that this seems to be incorrect, as the writer/director Audie Harrison is listed on other sites but not credited here). In addition to being available on DVD and Digital, the film will air on Cartoon Network and will be put on HBO Max for the annual Scoobtober celebration. The DVD will include three bonus episodes: "El Bandito" (Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!), "To Switch a Witch," and "The Headless Horseman of Halloween."

Here is the description for the 72-minute film:

Mystery Inc. has cracked the case to top all cases! They’ve tracked down Coco Diablo, the head of the notorious costume crime syndicate that colludes The Black Knight, Space Kook and the Ghost Diver. With Coco and her kitty in prison, Mystery Inc. thinks that they can finally enjoy a break. Wrong! Suddenly, menacing doppelgänger ghosts of the Scooby crew and favorite classic foes show up in Coolsville to threaten Halloween. Now it’s up to the meddling kids – and their unlikely new partner Coco – to unmask the latest scoundrel and save Halloween! For Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, with trick-or-treating on the line – this time it’s personal!

The full press release can be read at the Screen Connections website.

In addition, Richard Lee has shared he did some of the background drawings on his Instagram account.

Amazon has also posted the back cover for the film, which can be seen below.

It's really confusing that they didn't put that date in the trailer. You'd think they'd want to include that so people would know when to buy the film lol.

Now that's something we've all been waiting for. It was a matter of time until HBO Max would get involved in the DTVs.

Releasing on HBO Max is a HUGE WIN

Thanks for the info! I'm bummed out about the bonus episodes, though. It would have been so easy for them to release "A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle" as one of the bonus episodes, but instead, they just keep going with the same generic episodes that have been bonus episodes on several other DTVs at this point. I can understand them not taking a risk on releasing the Scrappy series as separate season releases, but I have to admit it frustrates me that they keep releasing the same episodes over and over again when one of the unreleased episodes would perfectly fit on this DVD. Alright, rant over haha.

Honestly I'm really not bothered by the bonus ep choices for this. I especially love the fact one of them is El Bandito, I did not expect that. Pleasant surprise to see them go with a BCSD ep, just shows to me WB were happy with how the series turned out after all. And yeah, I know To Switch a Witch and The Headless Horseman of Halloween have been used a good number of times before, but they're still awesome episodes, plus they're not SDWAY. You'd expect one to be there cuz WB loves SDWAY so much, but there's none, surprisingly (neither is Scooby-Doo Halloween, anlther go-to). Sure, would've loved the NSDMy ep, but I'm happy with the ones they chose.

Another go-to*

It is cool they chose to go with BCSD episode, I was just bummed that they used the same two Halloween episodes they've used on past Halloween DTVs (FrankenCreepy and Rock and Roll Mystery). Oh well.

I give up having a negative complaint. We got the worst absolute worst with Return to Zombie Island. It can only go up from that point on.

🎵"Halloween, down goes the sun
The scooby gang is out for fun
Tricks & Treats, round the bend
It's getting dark as daytime ends

Well, it's the night
Ghosts and Goblins play
Everyone knows it's that time of day
All the adults say ghosts can't be
But all the ghosts just disagree

Skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins too
Let's dress up, so fun to do
Scooby and the gang will make a scene
So give a scream, cause it's Halloween
(Give a scream, cause it's Halloween)

Well, in every town on every street
All the monsters and ghoulies meet
Stop to stop and in between
Hey, give a scream!
It's Halloween

(Halloweeen!)

Oobie, doobie, ra ra ra
Is that a ghost that Scooby saw?
Oobie, doobie, run run run
He'll be glad when this night is done

Well, Halloween, down goes the sun
The scooby gang is on the run
All the adults say ghosts can't be
But all the ghosts just disagree

Skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins too
Let's dress up, so fun to do
Scooby and the gang will make a scene
So give a scream, cause it's Halloween

Skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins too
Let's dress up, so fun to do
It'll be such a spooky scene
With Scooby and the gang on Halloween (Come on!)
With Scooby and the gang on Halloween
(Yeah! Trick or treat!)"🎵

Well, that's just super. What is the need in releasing early on one media form over the other? If anything, release it on physical first to try and minimise pirating. Oh well, it's WB so no surprise.

I'm not overly bothered by it, since it's only two weeks apart and that's what's been done for many Scooby films in the past. I don't think a UK release date has been announced yet, though, so I can see your point about pirating if there's a major delay between the UK and US release dates.

The only disappointing part about all of this news today is that El Bandito is being released on dvd for the 3rd time. I wish they could’ve released a season 2 episode of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! that hasn’t been released on dvd yet but other than that everything is all good.

Me too! I'm not sure why they chose that episode other than the monstrous gang looked skeletal and El Bandito is a skeleton.

Why am I not shocked at all that Michael Ryan wrote it? Lol, he's such a staple Scooby writer for a decade now that it's almost expected. And the fact Cecilia Aranovich directed this film gives me more hope; Straight Outta Nowhere was the best Scooby film in like half a decade. Good stuff.

So this might be me over speculating but I wonder if that Coco chick is being set up as a recurring character going forward (assuming there even are more DTV movies of course). Introducing another trendy teen character who's also non-white and has ties to the gang's history seems like it could be pointing in that direction. Just speculation.

Personally think this is a one off I feel like it's kind of a situation like Scooby doo blow out beach bash where it was announced or concived around the time the lego scooby doo theme was still going but because dtv scooby doo movie take a while to make they it ended up being released after the lego scooby doo theme ended.

To me this movie feels like a finale to guess who or maybe it's a episode turn into a movie but the animation studio of guess who still wanted to animate it or maybe they just wanted to make a guess who movie or atleast a movie in the style of guess who anyway.

The information in WB's official press release is incorrect. This movie was produced by Audie Harrison. It was written by Audie Harrison, Laura Pollak and Daniel McClellan. Cecila Aranovich and Mike Ryan had nothing to do with this.

After watching the trailer a couple of times, I must say im really interesting in the film for a lot of reasons:

1st - The plot sounds pretty unique and we see past culprits like Pops Baloney, Dr Grimsley and his henchmen. I don’t know who this female culprits are but you got me on that one.

2nd- The Monstrous Gang Doppelgängers look really cool. Dare I say they look better then the demonic mystery inc clones from A Scooby Doo Valentine.

3rd - Coco Diablo her character sounds interesting. She’s the head of a crime syndicate. She doesn’t even look all that evil though.

4th - I’m surprised that this movie is in guess who animation. These means that it will be like how the 2000s DTV movies (Loch Ness Monster - Samurai Sword) where using WNSD animation style. I was also thinking that this would eventually happen. Them using a different animation style after using the same trend of animation styles since Abracadabra Doo that came out in 2010.

5th - It’s another Halloween movie. After Goblin King and Happy Halloween. All these movies have classic Scooby Doo callbacks.

I thought it was really cool how they referenced obscure villains too. I really liked the clones, and I agree with you they look cooler than the Scooby-Doo Valentine clones. I'll be very interested to see if future DTVs are done in Guess Who style!

About the doppelgangers what if they shared traits or quirks with the gang maybe have a scene where velma and her doppelganger lose their glasses or have the shaggy and scooby doppelgangers like food or something like that and if they talk maybe have them sound like the gang.

It's cool they're doing another Halloween movie after 2 years, and it could be an improvement. I'm still a little disappointed that those mutant pumpkins were fake. I like the idea that they're finally meeting the person who supposedly created all the costumes they've encountered over the years. However, I hope that the animation style isn't a permanent change to the "Scooby-Doo" movies. I like it for the "Guess Who" show, but for the movies, I like them with the regular style more. It's kind of reminds me of how they're doing "Tom & Jerry" movies now with the 2014 show style rather than they're original one.

Reply
WildwindVampire link

It's definitely a strange idea to have them meet the person behind every single costume they've ever faced (that's some serious dedication, since it would be over 600 costumes!) I agree with you about the animation style, I definitely prefer the old style too. I could see myself getting used to it, though.

I wonder what this means for the animation for the Scooby/Krypto movie. Are they going blend their animation with The Krypto the Superdog animation style?

I imagine they'll just go with Guess Who style for Krypto, since that's what they did with Courage, but that would be really interesting if they did!

But they didn't use the guess who style for the courage crossover it was going to be a episode of guess who but the didn't use the guess who style. I don't think the krypto crossover is going to be in the guess who style.

That's a great point; I hadn't remembered that! I think you could be right on it being a Guess Who movie. The tone of the trailer seems a lot zanier than the series, so I'll be interested to see if the film has a different feel than Guess Who.

Amber noel
8/27/2022 07:07:01 pm

I feel like this isn't just a movie in the guess who style but a guess who movie Idk I feel like they wouldn't use the guess who font for the title if this wasn't a guess who production and them finding out that one person was behind all of the costumes and the evil doppelgangers makes this feel like a finale to guess who in a way.

I am sorry for the amount of comments I just have more to say than I thought. I feel their is going to be a situation where the doppelgangers do some bad stuff and the actual gang get blamed for it but I also feel like that would be unlikely giving how different the doppelgangers look despite having some similarites in terms of appearence.

No worries! Yeah, I could see them being inspired by the plot of "A Scooby-Doo Valentine." I agree the doppelgangers look different, but maybe they could still do the plotline you suggested by having the doppelgangers doing some bad stuff, and somebody sees their shadows and thinks it's the gang.
