Scooby-Doo and Krypto, Too! Trailer and Release Date

7/27/2023

We now have the official trailer for Scooby-Doo and Krypto, Too! It appears to be a different version of the trailer we had last night, so I've replaced the trailer I originally had with the official version and moved all the comments over to this thread. In the comments on the YouTube video for the trailer, WB confirmed that the film will be released on September 26, 2023 on DVD and October 24, 2023 on digital. The DVD will include three superhero-themed bonus episodes from Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, including "The Scooby of a Thousand Faces!", "What a Night, for a Dark Knight!" and "One Minute Mysteries!"

Here is the front and back cover for the DVD, found on Target's website:

Where’d they get that from? Eitherway, I’m sure when it the trailer is actually officially released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, we’ll get a release date.

Trick or Treat was released the day after it was officially uploaded by WB, which would mean we'll get the date on Friday if this movie follows the same pattern.

The fact that there's no dvd cover at the end males me worry it might be a streaming exclusive.
But it's still better than not getting an official release at all

While possible, there is still the international sites having the DVD. You could always just buy one from another country and remove the region code.

But I don’t think that would be the case, they have to rely on sales of the movie. The licensing fee in this movie must have been very high. I don’t know if they would, but it does seem silly to try and earn your money back through digital retailers. When at least 40-50 percent of sales are still the DVDs.

They could possibly release it on digital early though.

The US Walmart site lists the DVD, so thankfully it is definitely coming out in the US. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Scooby-Doo-and-Krypto-Too-DVD-Starring-Frank-Welker/2818277479?from=/search

Becker don’t be a pessimist have hope!

I think it's unfortunately unlikely that we'll get Holiday Haunt too. Krypto was never confirmed to be written off, we just assumed it because of the timing of it leaking right after Mystery Pups was cancelled. Since Holiday Haunt had a much bigger budget than Krypto, I think it would take a lot more for them to decide to unshelve that. The Barbie movie did really well and hopefully made up some of the debt that WB had, so who knows, maybe they'll unscrap it. I'm not holding out too much hope though.

@Mystery5, it's a legal matter, once they've written it off they literally can't release it. I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic. You can't really be neither optimistic nor pessimistic about striaght-up facts and law.

Becker is correct. Unfortunately, we will never see it, and that’s a matter of fact at this point

So I can breathe again!
We have an upcoming DTV movie. Yeah surely it will be on DVD in most of the major markets.

I noticed that the twitter trailer already has well over 400K views. That's got to encourage Warners.

I'm happy they released the film too! I was getting worried that it was going to become a lost piece of media but I'm glad that isn't the case.

The film had been previously leaked a while ago, last November I believe, so it's been complete for a long time. Why wait this long to officially release it?

I feel it was leaked right when it was finished and it does take a while to manufacture dvds

It was leaked in March. I think it could be either that it took a while to manufacture the DVD, or somebody leaked it out of fear that it was going to be cancelled like Mystery Pups, Haunted High Rise and Holiday Haunt.

I actually liked it. It felt like they balanced the gang and guest stars well, which hasn't always been the case with a lot of Guess Who and previous crossovers. I respect your opinion, though. :)

My reasons:
-Doesn't live up to the hype. This is the first Scooby-Doo/DC movie that doesn't have ties to anything prior (TBATB was tied to that animated series), and Superman (and WW in a movie) have their prominent debut in the franchise and are reduced to a cameo at the end. It also doesn't include Batman for whatever reason, but they do go out of their way to make references every second they can.

-Designs for the DC characters (including Krypto who is the co-lead) are veeeeeery bland.... Lois could be a background character.

-Animation is not terrible but it's not good (but this has been the case with most recent scooby DTVs).

-Doesn't live to its potential. Scooby has meaningfully crossovered with Batman, but he is a grounded hero. In this movie we have Solomon Groundy (a real zombie), Giganta (a real giant woman), Kryptonians (real super powered aliens), Wonder Woman (super powered goddess) and they don't bother to say a thing about it. I understand not talking about it in an episode or a comic... but in the first movie that touches upon this character I think it should be something to think about.... especially with how the franchise has tried its best to stay away from "real monsters" since Mystery Incorporated. At least a throwaway line. But not even that.

-Krypto should've been able to communicate with Scooby at the very least (In a way the audience could understand him, so with a voice actor). This dog has a super bland design and doesn't talk, why should I be invested in him? I don't even know what his relationship with Superman is in this movie.

-Also, unrelated to the movie and VERY unpopular opinion, but Matthew Lillard doesn't sound good as Shaggy anymore.

I liked Fred and Daphne seemingly being in a relationship (and Fred being jealous of Jimmy), the Lois Lane glasses joke, and some Lex Luthor interactions. But that's pretty much it.

I will say that I wish they had continuity that stuck better in the franchise. I wouldn't mind if they occasionally changed it, but it feels like barely anything carries over from the previous film/series anymore, which is a bit frustrating. It doesn't significantly bother me though, it's more of a pet peeve than anything tbh.

I thought Krypto was cute personally, but I never saw the original show. I know he was able to talk in the original show, so had I seen that, my opinion might be different and I can understand why people would dislike that.

It didn't really bother me that it wasn't grounded, but I will admit that I like the more grounded crossovers with Batman from The New Scooby-Doo Movies (and even The Brave and the Bold) a bit better.

Your opinions all make sense, but they didn't really bother me that much I guess.

It’s great that this movie is finally being formally released, instead of being leaked. And I don’t want to sound like a Negative Nelson, but it’s disappointing about the 3 bonus episodes. Those episodes are already released on DVD, and it would be great and awesome to see some unreleased episodes be released as bonus episodes on a movie DVD like this one, instead of bonus episodes being the same, over and over again.

I was also disappointed by the three bonus episodes, especially since it could have been a cool opportunity to release some episodes that were never released before, like "Super Teen Shaggy, "Captain Canine Caper," and maybe even "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases."

The first two are from The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour, and the third is a Batman/Scooby crossover from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

I am very pleased by the selection of the three bonus episodes myself. I never bought the season sets of Guess Who because I'm not a big fan of this series. With this DVD, not only do I get the Krypto movie but I get 3 of the 5 episodes of this series that I want to own.

I'm glad you'll get three of your favorite episodes in this set. What are the other two you want to own out of curiosity?

Well, I’ll be damned. Gotta say I did not see this coming, at least not right now. Glad they are releasing SOMETHING officially

In my weekly Guess Who bashing session, I naturally will second (or third rather) the notion that these are terrible picks for bonus episodes. I’d be completely on board with Wildwind’s suggestions above, and I’d sooner just have another copy of Scooby Doo meets Batman in the extra episodes like in the Brave and the Bold DVD than these sucky Guess Who episodes lol

I was kind of wondering if something was going to happen with all the international listings popping up for it, but I also didn't expect it to happen so suddenly like this.

"Weekly Guess Who bashing session" lol. I would be totally be down for getting Scooby-Doo and Batman again as well, as I like those better than the Guess Who episodes, even though I think "One Minute Mysteries!" is one of the better Guess Who episodes.

While I am happy that it is being officially released, I don't like how people were spreading misinformation about it being cancelled. I want to make clear that my issue isn't that people thought it was cancelled at the time it was very unclear, my issue is the fact that people started making articles trying to confirm that it was cancelled even though though it wasn't officially confirmed.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I think it makes sense that people thought it was cancelled given it was leaked the day after Mystery Pups was announced to be cancelled. However, there were some articles that claimed it had been officially cancelled by WB, which isn't the case. I had the same issue with some of the Trick or Treat news articles that claimed "the Scooby-Doo head writer" had officially confirmed Velma was a lesbian, and then cited James Gunn, who's only involvement in the franchise was two live-action movies nearly 20 years ago. Both with this and Trick or Treat, some news sites are too quick to jump on stories for the clickbait, and don't actually do the research into stuff before sharing the information.
