This was such a fun, nostalgic episode! It was so much fun having Cher back and it's really sweet that she invited Scooby on her yacht for his birthday. The atmosphere/setting of the episode was amazing. This felt like a perfect combo of "The Secret of Shark Island" and "A Clue for Scooby-Doo." Even if they didn't officially call it a "graveyard of ships" like they did in "A Clue for Scooby-Doo," it was a really cool how they reused that concept in this episode. I noticed they also reimagined the scene from "A Clue for Scooby-Doo" where they inflate Scooby's diving suit, so it can be popped and launched at the monster. Cher's yacht also looked a little similar to the one the gang saw disappear in "A Clue for Scooby-Doo."
Cher was an all-around amazing guest star. You could definitely tell her voice aged, but nonetheless, it didn't make it any less nostalgic. She seemed a lot more friendly in this one, as she was very irritable and sarcastic in "The Secret of Shark Island," but that didn't bother me. I loved that they even mentioned their adventures from "The Secret of Shark Island" a couple times in this episode; I have to admit I wasn't expecting that and was a little worried Cher wasn't going to recognize them. It was really funny that Cher said she didn't want to deal with any more Shark Men the next time they got together haha. I kind of wondered if they'd reference Sonny at all, but given his death, it probably would have been too awkward and sad to mention. I loved the Shark Men as well. They looked very similar to the original villains and the motive behind them dressing up was even pretty similar. Overall, this was a wonderful episode that is definitely one of my favorites purely due to how nostalgic it was. It didn't quite make my top 10 episodes, but it was incredibly close! The episode will be 50 years old next year! That's so crazy to think about! I agree, he whole "salvage rights" thing did feel very much like Be Cool.

Should I combine my rankings or keep the seasons seperated? 3/30/2021 11:45:29 am
Totally up to you! I'm choosing to do mine as the whole series just to see how the series compares as a whole. Also, did you not see one of the episodes yet? Just asking as you said 19 and there are 20 episodes of season 2 out now.

I have seen the "The Last Inmate" but not "Dark Diner of Route 66" since the boomerang streaming service isn't avalible in my country. Unfortunately, "The Last Inmate" is at the bottom of the list for me I just forgot to write it. I'm sure i've put it in previous rankings before. 3/30/2021 12:10:15 pm
Oh gotcha. I could give you a link to "Dark Diner of Route 66!" that someone recently posted on here if you would like!

I found the culprits to be pretty obvious too, but Cher bossing them around after they were caught was amazing! I didn't mind the original shark men, and thought these looked pretty similar to them except with a little more flare (like you said).

This was one of the best so far. The only thing slightly negative for me was Cher's voice. That really much of a problem though, because it wasn't really annoying, just different. The callbacks to the classic episodes were fantastic. Easily in my top ten.

Totally agree on Cher's voice sounding a little different sine she aged. It's been nearly 50 years since her first episode, though, so it's understandable. I wanted to put this in my top 10, but I couldn't quite justify putting it above the ones I currently have there. Maybe I'll change my mind though.

Yeah! Her voice was a thought I had too because it sounded so low pitched. Nonetheless I can't judge an episode by someone's voice and I placed this one at 2/19

Yeah, it didn't bug me that much. Cher was apparently 26 when she recorded her original episode's lines and now she's 74, so it totally makes sense as to why it would sound a little different.

That episode was cool but not my favourite especially since there was just 1 suspect. My favourite of that series was probably "The Frickert Fracas" even though it gets super lame after they capture the 2 guys running around. 3/30/2021 12:13:56 pm
Oh gosh, I totally agree it gets pretty lame towards the end. There's a recurring joke on a Scooby podcast I listen to in which one of the hosts jokes about how the end is basically just Jonathan Winters making 10 minutes of mouth sounds when they're in the barn haha.

This was an excellent episode. Cher was a really good guest star and was more fun than her previous appearance though her previous appearance didn’t really bother me. I liked how she mentioned their previous adventure in The Secret of Shark Island. It was also cool seeing reference from A Clue for Scooby Doo. I liked the cake gag. Thought it was funny when Cher makes a cake for Scooby and it get ruined somehow.

The nostalgia from Secret of Shark Island almost made me a little emotional watching this episode. Possibly my favorite that I have seen so far. I never expected it to be close to that classic, but just the references made this one fantastic

Loved this episode tbh! I mean, besides the two things that bother me most about this series (the ridiculously dragged doors gag and the nameless culprits), it was pretty good. The references to "The Secret of Shark Island" were neat. Another reference to "A Clue for Scooby-Doo" that I noticed, besides the inflated diving suit, was the scene where Shaggy and Scooby, this time with Cher, posed on the ships as figureheads to fool the shark men.

The door scenes and the nameless culprits bother me as well, but I didn't mind it too much in this episode. Oh my gosh, I didn't even think about that being a reference, but you're right!

Wildwind, you forgot references to Scooby Doo Where's the Crew, the Demon Shark in the Foggy Dark, ghost of the bad humor man and Foul Play in Funland. Sadly, I really enjoyed this episode but it was let down by a really predictable villain and quite frankly, stupid plot. I'm sorry, but the captain and first mate could quite easily have split the gold in half, done everything honestly and still been rich and that really, really annoyed me. In all truth I could have written this better. They could have invited Chaz Bono on who, from stories of his childhood, wanted to give his mother another mystery to remember after seeing how much she loved her time with the gang. Up until the last quarter this was top ten possibly top 5, now I just don't know where to put it, you know what 29/46.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the episode. I noticed the "Foul Play in Funland" reference (the plate falling on Scooby's head) but what were the references to "Scooby Doo, Where's the Crew?" "The Ghost of the Bad Humor Man" and "There's a Demon Shark in the Foggy Dark"?

Actually, my Foul Play in Funland one was Scooby licking the Ice cream of his nose, a lot like the cotton candy gag from the original Scooby Doo opening. Scooby Doo Where's the Crew there were a few. I can't remember one but there was the diving room which was very similar in design along with the gold in the ship, to be honest the whole plot was almost exactly the same! The Ghost of Bad Humor Man was very subtle and probably wasn't intentionally but it was the weight of the Mystery Machine that Fred noticed reminded me a lot of the weight of the armoured car in the garage. The design of the shark Monster in my eyes was quite similar to that of the one in a Demon Shark.

I just finished watching "Dark Diner on Route 66" and boy did I love it. To me it was so great to see everyone get taken away by the mud men making it feel like the monsters are overpowered. The door scene in this one was fantastic especially with one of the mud men getting stuck in the door scene. I knew who the culprits were but I wasn't certain. The fact that there are 3 monsters and I still can't be 100% sure who the monster is is really fun for me. Also it's weird to me how when Axl, Scooby and Shaggy reach the edge, Axl yells "stop" with a smile on his face which was probably a mistake. Also, how come in the credits it says College Kid and Mudman when there are 3 of each? I just felt that this episode was so short even though it wasn't. It felt short. That's why I would feel guilty putting it above the Cher episode which is on number 2. But, which such a cool and original mystery and place, it goes onto the number 2 spot.

Hey WildWind I just watched this episode today...and you were right it was very nostalgic in deed. However my only critisism is that, since Cher and the rest of the gang were celebrating Scooby's birthday in this episode, how come she didn't invite Simone to the party? I mean come on every birthday party needs a birthday clown. does it not?
