I loved this episode! Sean Astin was an amazing guest star and I loved that he's basically just living his Lord of the Rings role here haha. All the little puns and references to Lord of the Rings were a lot of fun and the monster was so cool-looking! I do wish they'd given him a more unique name than "Green Man Monster" (according to the credits), but oh well. The setting of the hardware store was pretty unique. The only thing I felt was a little cringey was Velma's "mansplaining" joke, which felt a bit forced to me. Otherwise, this was one of my favorite episodes and barely makes the top 10. This knocks "Elementary, My Dear Shaggy!" out of the top 10 and takes the #10 spot.

As you know I LOVED this one!!! #3 for me, the monster was amazing and I liked how there was just confusion with the suspects. Like, I didn’t see it coming, I thought it was the teen worker lol.

I actually guessed it was the environmentally-conscious worker. I loved how they made this whole episode into a "quest" and the Alliance of the Ring bit was very punny and clever! :) Haha, I would love to see them capture Mad Matey's ghost lol.

I did kinda think she was the bad guy but it seemed that she was too suspicious, and you know what that means in this series, say it with me everyone: 3/18/2021 11:18:18 am
That is absolutely true haha. I'm not sure why I suspected her, but I'm glad I did given she ended up being the culprit lol.

Ikr. I did like Sean Astin and his LOTR fantasy but I found the culprit very underwhelming because I am not a fan of her look. Also that ending with the treasure of Mad Matey was such a tease and I wish that was actually an episode. Anyone mind writing a sequel episode based on that? That would be awesome 4/2/2021 04:09:38 pm
I wish it was a real episode! Someone needs to write some fanfiction of that haha.

This episode was pretty good. I liked that the setting was in a hardware store. They never solved a mystery in a hardware store. It’s cool that they still come up with settings. I agree that the monster was cool but the name is pretty lame. Shout out to Sean Astin for getting really into his role. The lord of the rings references were great. Like the Mark Hamill episode with the star war references.

I think it's amazing that they're still able to come up with new settings after so many episodes too! Sean Astin being so into his role is what made this episode for me. It also felt sort of like a classic New Scooby-Doo Movies episode to me, which I loved.

I really wish they went closer to his prototype design we found a few months ago. While this design didn't look a whole lot like Sean, it was pretty bland. Not Jason Sudeikis bland, but still pretty bland.

Agreed that it would have been nice if the design was less bland, but it didn't really bother me all that much tbh.

Pretty cool that both Sean Astin and his father John Astin (Gomez Addams in Wednesday is Missing) have done voice work in a Scooby-Doo episode.

This episode was pretty cool, I loved the setting SO much and atleast it gave an opportunity to make the door scene unique. I'm ranking season 1 and 2 separately so this episode ranks 4/16

I actually didn't mind the door scene in this one either because it felt so unique compared to the other ones they've done.

There were a lot of great Lord of the Rings references in this episode! :) 3/18/2021 03:11:36 pm
How did you watch this these two episodes? I can't find them on the boomerang app.

Surprised nobody's pointed out the references to old episodes yet, the sales clerk looking like Helga the housemaid, bailing the villain like the Creeper, and I'm sure the bank detective's design is from somewhere to, just can't put my finger on it. Personally for me this was another one of those love em or hate em guest stars and for me I just did not like Sean Astin, a lot like Mark Hamill, the whole Lord of the Rings focus dominated the whole episode and got old FAST for me. Loved the overall mystery just not certain aspects on how it was done. There were just so many plot holes in the whole thing, what happened to the customers? What was that gas the plant sprayed? What happened to the store manager? Did love the snake joke though. 20/42

Oh wow there are a lot of references in this episode. The garden lady looking like Helga the housemaid but also has the hairstyle like Elma the maid from Abracadabra Doo. How they captured the plant monster is like how they captured the creeper with bailing. As for the bank detective, I also can’t put my finger on who he looks like but it will come to me.

I noticed the hay bailing of the villain being like the Creeper, though I hadn't thought about the sales clerk looking like Helga the housemaid! Great point that they never addressed the gas, and strange that they didn't have the store managers show up at the very end. I can absolutely see why you wouldn't like this one if you didn't like the Mark Hamill one, as they were very similar.

Along with the bailing of the plant monster like the bailing of the creeper, The gardening lady wanting to pull off a bank heist can be like Mr. Carswell stealing from the bank. The bank detective monitoring the everything that’s going on, including the gardening lady and her plans to rob the bank is like the bank guard installing a camera and watching Mr. Carswell steal from the bank. 3/22/2021 09:17:11 am
That's a great point! I hadn't thought about how similar Carlswell's crimes were to the Plant Monster's.

I know, but I personally felt that they focussed more on the fact that Morgan will be documenting the whole thing and didn't give much care for the mystery. We just met the 2 suspects and it felt very bland. 3/21/2021 10:22:41 am
Interesting rankings! I'm surprised to see "The Last Inmate! so low while "The Hot Dog Dog!" was so high!

To be honest I found "The Hot Dog Dog" an interesting mystery but not the best, I found the setting great and for "The Last Inmate" I felt like they put no effort into the mystery especially with the suspects. I felt like they focussed more on Morgan documenting it. If you want I can post my rankings for season 1 and I think my number 2 spot will surprise alot of people...

Because it was pretty bad. It ranks 37/42 for me. Abut half the episode is just filler and rest is just totally rushed. 3/22/2021 09:16:21 am
Nice rankings! I personally liked "One Minute Mysteries!" so I was also surprised it was so low in your rankings. Same with "Attack of the Weird Al-osaurus!" and "Elementary, My Dear Shaggy!".

I found "One Minute Mysteries" Very filler but really enjoyable! So it isn't that low on the list. The ending was also enjoyable but it doesn't make sense that the villain was just The Flash's villain. I also found it lame when it happened in the Batman episode. "Attack of the weird al-osaurus was nothing special but not bad and I found "Elementary, My Dear Shaggy" very basic and obvious. The suspects just disappeared and I found it bland but not an awful episode.

Wildwind, I just want you to know that you mistakenly put the Plant Monster picture from SD&GW? in the BCSD episode guide list.

Thank you so much for pointing this out! What happened is that I was retaking villain pictures for the last 11 Guess Who episodes the other day without the Boomerang logo. If two images are named the same thing, whichever was most recently uploaded to the site automatically replaces the old one. I had forgotten that I'd given the BCSD plant monster image the same name, so when I added the new Guess Who villain pic for "Returning of the Key Ring!", it accidentally deleted the other one. I fixed it now.
