Ranking All the Scooby-Doo Halloween Episodes

Spooky season is officially here! Back in 2016, I did a review of all Scooby-Doo Christmas themed media (and a part 2 in 2017). Given there are equally as many Halloween-themed episodes and films, I thought it would be fun to do the same with the Halloween episodes. I also want to do something a little different with these and actually give my ranking of them from worst to best for this month's editorial article. That also means the article that I've had backwritten since May for some reason won't get posted this month again, but I'll post it eventually lol. As my dying wish, I'll instruct the doctors to "tell my children...post the article" hahahahaha. (It's not that special of an article, it's just average lol)

10. Scooby-Doo and the Spooky Scarecrow
It definitely says something about the quality of Scooby-Doo Halloween media that even my least favorite Halloween episode is still really good. I know a lot of people really enjoy this special, and I do too, but in considering all the episodes I'd watch to get in the Halloween mood, this is probably the one I'd watch last. There's certainly nothing bad about it, but it feels like a very average Scooby episode to me. There's not really anything special about it, it's just there. Granted, Cornfield Clem's design is amazing, particularly how he can extend his arms. I honestly think that it's the corn maze setting that brings it down a little for me. Nothing about the special felt particularly spooky or Halloween-y, other than the fact that they mention Halloween several times. Yes, the gang dresses up in costumes, but it feels brief and like the rest of the episode could be just a regular Scooby-Doo episode of them solving a mystery in a corn maze. It's not a bad episode by any means, and there are many Halloweens I do watch this episode, but it's just not as good as the other episodes for me.

9. Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner?
It was so hard to rank some of these, because they're all just so good! "Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner?" comes out second-to-last, but that doesn't mean I think it's any less amazing of an episode! While the trick-or-treating and Halloween-related part of the episode is short, the plot that the gang has to save a real ghost's home is such a cool twist on the classic Scooby-Doo formula. Essentially, if you're going by the gang's age rather than the order the episodes aired, this is canonically the first time they meet a real supernatural being. The ghost of Bartholomew Byford Boo is such a cutie, both from his voice and personality. In an otherwise silly series, the ghost of Boobeard definitely stands out as one of the more creepy, menacing villains. I've also always been amused by Fred listing out 89 suspects when they capture the ghost, getting even as random as his third grade English teacher haha.
Picture
8. The Headless Horseman of Halloween
I already know people are going to think I ranked this way too low haha. While it's another amazing episode with an incredible villain, the plane scene is what really dragged this down for me. It felt like it took the episode completely out of the Halloween mood, and it seemed to drag on after a while. This would have ranked much higher if not for the ending, but I've never really cared for that part in what is otherwise a great episode. I love the lore they give behind the villain (and just the fact that they used such an awesome villain), and it's neat the gang is going to a Halloween party at the Cranes' house, since in the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow (which is what this episode is based off of), the name of the person the Headless Horseman decapitated was Ichabod Crane. Of course, I absolutely love Scooby-Dum because he's adorable, so that was also a big bonus for this episode. I always have thought it was odd Shaggy refers to Scooby-Dum as Scooby's brother in this episode, when it's clearly stated in the prior episode he was in that Scooby-Dum is Scooby's cousin.

7. Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!
I was a big fan of this movie, especially after the prior two DTVs weren't the greatest. I have already written a review for this one which you can read here, but I'll recap the main points again. I enjoyed the Scarecrow as a villain quite a bit, and the whole movie felt cinematic. I didn't mind that the whole film was basically a car chase to get away from the living pumpkins; in fact, I'd say the pumpkins' constant presence made it feel more sinister and Halloween-y. I enjoyed all the references to previous Scooby-Doo media, and I stand by my assertion in my original review that I really want to see a movie now with the gang solving the mystery of the ghost of the Three Stooges lol. Bill Nye and Elvira surprisingly fit super well in this film, and their inclusion didn't feel cringey or forced even though it was technically another crossover. I was super happy to see Daphne's quirky personality from Be Cool, Scooby-Doo return, as I'm a big fan of that version of Daphne. The film felt like the perfect combo between SDMI and BCSD. I was absolutely shocked that the sheriff from the last two films was the villain behind it all. It was nice to see those three films tied together, even if I'm not a big fan of the first two. I was happy they explained why Velma got so obnoxiously skeptic in the prior two, as well. The only aspect of the film I didn't care for was the 60's bubblegum pop. I know they were trying to make it feel like a Where Are You chase scene, but it just didn't feel the same. I'll end this review the same way I ended the last one, because I'm still so surprised: so Elvira's hair is just a monkey? hahahaha
Picture
6. To Switch a Witch
This is quite possibly the darkest Scooby-Doo Halloween episode of them all, as it's based around the real-life events of women who were accused as witches being burned alive in Salem. It's pretty dark that they also try to force Scooby to confess by tying him up and dunking him in water, and it's especially dark that the entire town is still practicing witch burning even though it's 1978. It's definitely one of the darkest times in our history, as so many innocent women were killed, so this episode has feels especially grim to me. I'm a huge fan of the villain, the Ghost of Milissa Wilcox. Her green hair and face are so cool looking! She's always been one of my favorite villains of The Scooby-Doo Show. The cemetery also has one of the creepiest vibes to any cemetery in a Scooby episode, IMO. I haven't watched the episode since I researched this for one of the recent fun facts, but in discovering that The Mark of Mormal on Milissa's grave is a real-life symbol used by Anton LeVay, leader of a Satanist cult, I think the episode is going to feel even creepier to me when I watch it next. The bit where Shaggy and Scooby were trick-or-treating was cute, well, until they were kidnapped and put in stocks that is lol. Though it's not my all-time favorite of the Halloween episodes, it definitely is the darkest of them and I love this one so much for that reason.
Picture
5. Halloween
I'm a huge fan of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, so honestly I consider pretty much anything from that series to be top-notch material. "Halloween" is certainly no exception; it's got tons of great humor while also having a creepy mystery, and even giving us some backstory into Fred's life. I love that the whole mystery is centered around Fred being terrified of the one villain he couldn't catch when he was little (and it's cool to get meet Rose, who would later be a prominent part of the series finale). The fact that Fred's been scared of this witch for so many years and afraid to solve a mystery on Halloween made the villain seem even more terrifying. Even though they'd already used Baba Yaga in "House of the Nightmare Witch" from SDMI, I thought they did a great job using her in a way that felt new and different, rather than just recycling what SDMI had already done. Shaggy's dressing up a pocket is quite possibly the best costume I've ever heard of, except perhaps a friend of mine saying she was going to dress up as the scariest thing of all: "the future" hahaha. The reference where Shaggy dresses up as Mr. Hyde was neat, and Fred going into a party of wolfmen saying he's going to rip their faces off one by one is still one of my favorite jokes of the series. I also enjoyed the old horror movie style filter over the chase scene! Though I will admit when I was watching the episode before it came out in the US in the most legal way possible, I didn't realize it was a filter and I thought it was because the video quality of the file dropped lol. In fairness to me though, even JCB said he was confused about the filter when he first watched the episode, because apparently someone added that bit in last-minute without telling him haha.
Picture
4. A Scooby-Doo Halloween
This is the quintessential Scooby Halloween episode for many fans. It never fails to get me in the Halloween mood, and it pains me to put it at #4 because it's so good, but alas, here we are haha. I loved getting to learn more about Velma's family history, and because Banning Junction is a real-life place that I've been to several times, I have even more nostalgia around the episode. As a side note, I stopped writing for a moment to research about the actual 100th anniversary of Banning Junction, which was last year. Amusingly, the first few results that came up were all stuff that I'd written for this blog lol. Since the 100th anniversary unfortunately landed during the pandemic, sadly everything was virtual. In fact, an article that listed the "best things to do for the 100th anniversary of Banning Junction's Halloween" were very pitiful things like "get take out at a restaurant" and "participate in a virtual coloring contest" lol. Anyway, the scarecrows were super creepy villains, the plot of the ghost of the town's mayor returning after 100 years was very entertaining, and it just all around feels like an iconic Halloween episode.
Picture
3. Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King
I know there are many fans who would rather watch paint dry than subjecting themselves to this "wacky" film, but honestly, it's not only one of my favorite pieces of Scooby-Doo Halloween media, but it's in my top 10 favorite Scooby films of all time. Yes, it is very strange and out there, but I think it's weird in a fun, quirky way. It so iconically represents all the wonder and whimsy behind the magic of Halloween. I don't even really mind that Fred, Velma and Daphne don't have a huge part in this, because the way they built the Halloween World and the all various monsters (especially the Goblin King) was so amazing. This film instantly puts me in the Halloween mood and I watch it every year. While it's understandable why some people might not like it, I feel like this film gets a little bit of a bad rep because it's fun for what it is, even if it's not traditional Scooby.
Picture
2. Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School
Those that have been following the blog for a while know that this is my all-time favorite Scooby movie, so it was almost an impossible choice to rank this one and the next. I ultimately ended up putting this one at #2, because the Halloween scene in it is admittedly a bit brief. I can't say enough good things about this movie. The concept of Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy going to a school for ghouls is a perfect flip of the classic Scooby formula where they're trying to catch monsters. The girl ghouls are absolutely adorable, and Revolta and the Grim Creeper such cool villains. The entire premise behind this film is so amazing. This is a must-watch for me every year around Halloween. If they could keep the tone consistent with this film, which the Warner Brothers executives admittedly don't have a great track record, I would love to see a spin-off focusing on just the girl ghouls, similar to what I did with my fanfic Fangs for the Memories. I'm admittedly afraid to suggest any sequels though now, because the original is so perfect and I feel like it would be too easy for them to screw up.
Picture
1. A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle
This is my all-time favorite Scooby-Doo Halloween episode. I'm a huge fan of any episode with all of the classic Universal monsters in a group, and I love episodes in castles, so the episode already had a lot going for it lol. That aside though, the plot of this episode in general is so perfect. In mentioning for "Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner?" how the episode is a reversal of the classic Scooby-Doo formula, this episode does it even better, since it's the most famous and powerful monsters in the world asking the gang for help (plus bonus points for the monsters seeming evil at first, then revealing that they were friendly, only to reveal at the end that they actually were evil the whole time). Besides my love of the villains and plot, I also adore the settings: even in the first two seconds of the episode, the autumn gust of wind puts me in a Halloween mood instantly. The atmosphere of the castle is super creepy and gives the whole episode a very clearly dark undertone. This is the perfect Scooby-Doo Halloween episode for spooky season.

I hope you enjoyed reading my rankings of each of these episodes! There are definitely a few other Scooby films I tend to watch around this time of year even though they aren't necessarily Halloween themed - Boo Brothers and Reluctant Werewolf feel like great Halloween movies to me, and Witch's Ghost has such a peaceful late autumn feeling to me. I also wanted to note that I didn't include episodes in this ranking that just mention Halloween - for example, "Escape from Mystery Manor" from SDMI briefly discusses how the Darrow Mansion went underground on Halloween night.

And hey, if you want, feel free to post your rankings in the comments to see how they compare to mine! :)

10) Spooky Scarecrow - Kinda decent, but not memorable at all. Not nearly as good of a scarecrow episode as A Scooby-Doo Halloween.
9) BCSD Halloween - This was always a lesser Be Cool episode for me, it doesn't really ultilize the show's strengths to a great extent. It's among the ones I forget about most often from Be Cool. And a witch as the villain makes me think of it as a not-as-good version of To Switch a Witch.
8) Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! - Pretty good movie coming off the back of a couple of terrible DTVs, but I don't think it makes it great just by comparison. There's some weird things here and there that aren't very entertaining, but overall it's good.
7) Guess Who's Coming to Dinner - A very nice and cute episode of A Pup that fits right there in the middle of this show's episodes. And Boo is just so fun.
6) Ghoul School - While it's my least favorite of the 80s movies, it's still a very solid film. It's just not one of my favorites, I would rather rewatch Boo Brothers or Reluctant Werewolf personally.
5) A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle - Incredible execution of a crazy af idea haha. It's pretty epic and awesome to watch. Every full-length New Mysteries episode delivers big time, even though I prefer Happy Birthday, Scooby-Doo! and A Nutcracker Scoob to this one.
4) Goblin King - Quite frankly the most insane idea for a Scooby-Doo film ever, but it's off the wall strange in a great way! So much varied entertainment value as well as great lore, worldbuilding, overarching story and magical supernatural creatures.
3) To Switch a Witch - Perfect setting and monster backstory, cool creepy premise. The Scooby-Doo Show doubling down on the unnerving details that you don't notice at first.
2) A Scooby-Doo Halloween - Those WNSD holiday episodes are fantastic, and this is no exception. Great concept, memorable culprit. Love all the scarecrow and cornfield scenes.
1) The Headless Horseman of Halloween - I absolutely love this one, even the airplane sequence I enjoy. Iconic moments and villain. Backstory gives me the chills. The "I want a head" part is one of the most hilarious scenes in Scooby history. And Scooby-Dum is always a plus. One of the best Scooby-Doo episodes ever in general, not just TSDS.

Glad to see that someone agrees with me on Spooky Scarecrow being subpar. Interesting that you didn't feel "Halloween" had the Be Cool charm. For Happy Halloween, I wasn't just saying the movie was only great in comparison to the other two being bad. I genuinely enjoyed the plot of it quite a bit.

Personally, Halloween Hassle is my favorite over Happy Birthday and Nutcracker Scoob, but they're all amazing episodes. I wouldn't say every full-length New Scooby-Doo Mysteries episodes delivers, as I didn't care for Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts all that much. And of course, always glad to see some love for Goblin King :)

I felt BCSD Halloween didn't use its signature elements to its fullest potential. Daphne's quirk didn't really work in this one, her dressing up as Velma didn't do much for me. Speaking of Velma, I can't even recall anything she did here. Shaggy and Scooby had some funny moments tbf, especially with costumes. And Fred's story isn't all that captivating and I would completely forget it if wasn't for the tie-in to the Be Cool finale.
There were some faults in Happy Halloween, like the whole unnecessary Elvira sub-plot, didn't enjoy that. Also a few awkward or cringy moments. But overall I liked the movie, I just don't think it's that great.
I really like Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts personally, it's a very unique kind of episode. I actually put it just behind Halloween Hassle as far as the big 6 TNSDMy episodes. There's not much like it in the franchise.
Goblin King is an absolute blast! This movie is a guide to how to do absolute insanity with Scooby right. Not the Rock and Roll Mystery way.

I thought Daphne dressing up as Velma was cute haha. I probably should have rewatched all these before I wrote the post, but I admittedly didn't have time (although I plan to sometime before Halloween). That being said, I don't remember Velma doing much in this episode either. I disagree with you on Fred's story though, I personally found it very interesting and it made the witch seem more ominous.

I didn't mind the Elvira subplot, but yeah, there were a couple of cringey moments. I liked the movie overall.

"Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts" is indeed a very unique episode and I honestly couldn't pick another episode like it in the franchise if I tried. I guess it was just a little too "out there" for me. I definitely don't hate it, it's just one of my least favorites of the two-parters in the New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. I will say it has been a long time since I've seen it though, so maybe I'll have to rewatch it to see if my opinion changed.

Interestingly, I loved the authentic weirdness/uniqueness in this film but I didn't care as much for it in "Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts."

I have not seen Happy Halloween, so I will rank the other 9

9. Goblin King: Yeah this one is more of a hot take than not around here, but I don’t enjoy this movie

8. Halloween: I didn’t enjoy this one as much as other episodes of this series

7. Ghost Who’s Coming to Dinner: a big jump here but this isn’t even close to my favorite Pup episodes either

6. Spooky Scarecrow: I always felt this one deserved more credit than it gets

5. Ghoul School: a Classic but it isn’t one I watch as much as others. Still great though

4. Halloween Hassle at Dracula’s Castle: Now it gets tough. This is one of the very best Scrappy episodes

3. To Switch a Witch: Talk about a classic. I realized how much I love this episode even more than I knew before on the Wedding Bell Boo’s VHS. A dark episode as well

2. A Scooby Doo Halloween: I don’t like it as much as the Valentine’s special but it does rank higher than A Scooby Doo Christmas for me. One of the best of the series

1. Headless Horseman of Halloween: Of course. The plane sequence isn’t my favorite either. But everything before that was on track to be a top 5 episode of all time. Near perfect until that scene

Interesting to see so many people feel "Halloween" didn't have the same charm as the rest of Be Cool! Interesting you like the Valentine's Day WNSD special better. The Halloween one is my favorite of the three. Interesting to see so many people putting Headless Horseman on top, but I can't say I'm surprised. It is definitely a great episode, even if the plane scene brought it way down for me.

Valentines imo is perfectly meta in a good way. Plus JC Chasez being the perpetrator was absolutely hilarious to me. Halloween is still like my 6th favorite episode of the What’s New Series. Valentines is just like 3 or 4 lol

It did bring it down for me as well, but the episode was everything I want in an episode before that. It would probably be fighting for GOAT status. The creepiness, the lines, the take on a classic tale, the clue finding and detective work, Tarloff being suspicious, etc.

The plane scene dragging on moved it down to fourth of the series and outside of my all time top ten

Totally agree about how great the metaness (is that a word haha?) of the episode was.

Yeah, the episode was amazing other than that prolonged plane scene. I definitely still enjoy the episode a lot though, and it's still one of my favorite Scooby-Doo Show episodes.

I have not seen BCSD Halloween .
9)Spooky Scarecrow - Nothing was memorable.
8) Ghoul School - I intend no disrespect to the opinions of others but Ghoul School is my second least favorite Scooby film. I only like the first 5 minutes, the mirror monster scene and the final few minutes.
7) Goblin King - Not my cup of tea but I like the beginning.
6) Happy Halloween - Again, not really my thing but it has its moments.
5) Halloween Hassle - I do not care for it.
4) Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner - Decent enough.
3 Headless Horseman - Pretty good except for the aerial hijinks
2) A Scooby Doo Halloween - Marcie is a great character.
1) To Switch a Witch - The best Halloween episode!
My only complaints are that some of the comedy did not work and the villain was caught too easily but we get great characters in the form of Arlene and all of the townsfolk.

That's fair on Ghoul School, not everyone can like everything. I am surprised to hear that you don't like Halloween Hassle, as I feel like from your comments on here, most of the Scrappy episodes tend to be your favorites and I've always thought that was one of the best Scrappy episodes.

I agree with you that the witch was caught too easily. It felt very rushed to just have her fall in a hole because she's clumsy, rather than the gang catching her.

10. A Scooby Doo Halloween- this is a great WNSD episode but compared to the other Halloween episodes, it's probably the worst for me.
9. Halloween Hassle- fun but felt too short.
8. Halloween- I really liked this episode but watching it back, I find it a bit more boring now, maybe because I've watched it so much though!
7.Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner- It was overall a fun episode
6.Ghoul School- this was a fun film overall but certainly not in my thing.
5. Headless Horseman- I agree that the scene at the end brings the episode down. But, otherwise great episode.
4.Spooky Scarecrow- This was an enjoyable one, I liked the characters, the setting and the mystery.
3. Happy Halloween- a very enjoyable one with the best part being the first half hour.
2. Goblin King- While changing it up a notch and focussing on Shaggy and Scooby doesn't always work to my liking, it worked fantastically in this film and it was enjoyable and funny.
1. To switch a Witch- The villain, the setting and everything was just so good! The Town being "witch crazy" was terrifying to think about and gave a really good vibe. Certainly one of the best Scooby Doo show episodes.

The Headless Horseman of Halloween :
This was the very first Scooby Doo Halloween episode so it was a really good and dark episode. The Headless Horseman was super cool and menacing. The story behind the headless horseman was good. The hand coming out of the wall and trying to get Aunt Gertudes necklace( imagine it it was her head) while she was sleeping just gives you chills. Elwood Crane head being taken and him laughing was scary as hell. Tarloff the butler I liked him he added a lot of creepiness in the episode. The plane scene didn’t really bother that much. I thought it was funny with Scooby Dum trying to get them with the net.

I really liked how they followed the classic legend/lore behind the Headless Horseman for this episode too! I agree the hand coming out of the wall was super creepy, as well Elwood's head being taken. I enjoyed Tarloff's character as well! And of course, Scooby-Dum makes any episode amazing because he's so cute haha :)

To Switch A Witch:
This episode was just as dark as the Headless Horseman episode. The Ghost of Melissa Wilcox seeking revenge as she burned 200 years ago on Halloween night. The witch in this episode was pretty scary, especially when she said revenge over and over again. Squire Marley and the towns people coming after Arlene because she looks like the witch and Gar Mooney telling her that she must run away. The Squire and the towns people repeatedly dunking Scooby was pretty threathing. I thought it was funny that Scooby and the witch were playing look in the mirror with one another and Shaggy and Scooby failing at trick or treating.

A Halloween Hassle at Dracula’s Castle:
This episode was really good. The whole gang were back together again. All of the monsters in this episode were real and they all were in the The New Scooby Doo Mysteries intro so it was cool seeing them in this episode. I like the Looney Tunes reference: Scrappy using Bugs Bunny famous line after Chandra pulled him out of her hat and the fact that he wearing a bunny costume was nice.

Scooby Doo and The Ghoul School:
This was a great movie. The idea of Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy going to coach girls at a school not realizing they are monster girls was very good. The Grimwood Girls, Miss Grimwood, Matches, Colonel Calloway, The Calloway Cadets we’re all great characters. I like the running gag with something bad happening to the colonels hat and the colonel having unfortunate luck. They did a really good job with all the spookiness in this movie. The girls giving presents to their fathers was so sweet. The fathers threatening Shaggy And Scooby was mean but sweet as it shows they really care about their daughters. Revolta, The Grim Creeper, Mirror Monster and Well Dweller were great villains. The Calloway Cadets saving the girls despite their differences was nice. The ending was great with everybody dancing and celebrating, Scrappy rapping, the guys running away because of the new students and the girls waving goodbye.

Ghost Who’s Coming To Dinner:
This was a fun episode. The opening was funny with Shaggy and Scooby switching costumes to get more candy. The neighbor was so annoyed haha. I like the idea of a ghost pirate in a Halloween episode. The Ghost of Boobeard was a great villain. Also this episode featured a real monster, Mr.Boo he was fun, funny and adorable. The Johnsons telling the gang they are aware of a ghost living in their house and that he’s friendly and nice. It was pretty spooky with the ghost fog following the gang all the way back at their treehouse. Also Fred taking off the his head thinking it’s a mask and got scared. Mr. Boo going through Scooby which freaked him out. In the end they were able to stop Boobeard, they saved Mr. Boo’s and The Johnson’s house.

A Scooby Doo Halloween:
This was the first Scooby Doo Halloween episode I watched on the Monster Matinee Dvd and it was a really good episode. There were a lot of references in this episode. The case the gang is solving in the beginning is similar to Which Witch is Which, Curtis dressing like Hong Kong Phooey, those people dressing like Dorthy and the Wizard of Oz, Shaggy’s werewolf disguise looks similar to his werewolf form from reluctant werewolf, Eldon Reed and another guy went as Sherlock Homes and Watson, and Scooby dressed up like Superman. This episode includes a laugh track just like the older episodes. I like that this episode centered around Velmas family. The Scarecrows were great villains. I like that they had razor tools and project flames. The Ghost of Hank Banning he was good but just didn’t appear that much. He was just mentioned through out the episode. Agnes was like one of those spooky characters like in the older episodes. The cat was super creepy too, especially at the end when he laughed, disappeared and his eyes turned red. This episode also featured the hottest band in the world: Kiss.

I also loved all the references with the costumes! I would have enjoyed if Hank Banning's ghost had appeared more in the episode, as I agree with you that it felt like he was barely in it.

Scooby Doo and The Goblin King:
This movie was indeed different than other Scooby Doo movies but it was a wildly fun, funny, nostalgic, and interesting film. Shaggy and Scooby foiling a magicians act and him wanting revenge on them and to become a powerful by stealing the Goblin King’s scepter. We see Fangface in the book. The Black Knight Ghost made an appearance in Mr. Gibbles song. Shaggy and Scooby having to save both the real world and the Halloween world. They get turned into monsters using magic cards. The monsters they meet in the monster bar are monsters that appear throughout the entire franchise. Glob and Glum were hilarious especially with the bit about them not saying goblin king and hitting each other. The Headless Horseman in this movie was cool and was just like the headless horseman from the Scooby Doo show except he had flames in his mouth and had swords. I like that witches and the fairies are helping Shaggy and Scooby in their quest. Shaggy and Scooby dressing up like Daphne and Velma just like they did in Pirates Ahoy. The Goblin King was all powerful but not that evil he’s actually a really good guy and loves his daughter. That was a surprising twist that Fairy Princess Willow and him were related. The Goblin King saw Shaggy and Scooby as true hero’s and made everyone forget what happened that night except them. That was cool of him to do.

Totally agreed and this movie never fails to put me in the Halloween mood. I thought the Headless Horseman in this film had an even cooler design than the one in The Scooby-Doo Show. I've always had a soft spot for the Goblin King given he was just trying to protect his daughter and allowed Shaggy and Scooby to remember the night because they were heroes. Such a sweet ending :)

Scooby Doo and The Spooky Scarecrow:
After watching this special I must say I really enjoyed it. It felt like a Scooby Doo Where Are You episode to me. They go to a town (Cobb Corner) for Halloween and for the Annual Halloween Harvest Celebration. They discover something happening in the town, with the citizens, the mayor, and the sheriff and decide to investigate. They meet two victims who encountered the monster and they tell a story behind the monster. Mr. Bumpy looking like a hunchback. Shaggy and Scooby wanting to eat food instead of solving the mystery. The gang having serious faces when they are talking about the candy corn factory. Shaggy and Scooby wanting to stay guard outside the cornfield and Velma and Fred pull them right in. The number of suspects in this episode. Cornfield Clem was a great villain and had a cool design. The scythe and him extending his arms were nice touches. The Grave Keeper was creepy and mysterious. The mayor having to cancel Halloween and the celebration for to be safe the kids was pretty serious. You know like there’s a scarecrow with a scythe out their and he has to assure the safety of the kids and everyone else. The story about the culprit (Abner) robbing the bank and having to bury the money and also having to find where he put it using Cornfield Clem as a cover up. Thats a classic Scooby Doo motive. The celebration continues and the gang celebrate that they solved another mystery. Scooby scaring shaggy and eating his food. That’s a classic Scooby Doo gag.

Like I mentioned in the post, I've always found this episode to be a bit lackluster and definitely didn't feel like a Where Are You episode to me, but I'm glad you enjoyed the special :)

Halloween:
This episode was good. It showed what happen to Fred on Halloween night as a kid facing against Baba Yaga. It also showed us his cousin Scott as well as Rose. Ever since that night, Fred doesn’t like Halloween because he believes it’s impossible to solve a mystery on this holiday. There were flashbacks that shows us this. These flashbacks shows us werewolves that look like the Werewolf Ghost from Who’s Afraid of The Big Bad Werewolf, Shaggy dressing like the Ghost of Mr. Hyde, Daphne and Velma dressing like the Hex Girls, and I guess Scooby dressing like Ghost of Redbeard. We see some kids dressing like monsters the gang has faced in this series. I liked the gangs coustumes. They already used Baba Yaga in Mystery Incorporated but that one was Russian. This one is more like a regular old which so I didn’t bother me that they used her again. The chase scene look like something out of a horror movie. It’s pretty interesting and impressive that that Mr. and Mrs Clune have been doing the whole Baba Yaga scam for years. Going from town to town every Halloween, Scaring the kids and forcing Halloween to be forever canceled in those towns all because they hate Halloween, thinking it’s a disrespectful insult to history and mankind’s deep connection to the earth and wants it to go back to it’s more galeic roots. Fred finally solved a mystery on Halloween and the gang ate all the candy on the floor.

I enjoyed all the costume references in this episode! I loved the elaborateness of Mr. and Mrs. Clune's scheme. They were definitely two of the most involved villains in the entire franchise, given they quite literally were doing this for years haha.

Happy Halloween Scooby Doo:
This film was great. They’re a lot of Scooby doo media references in this episode as well as some from other Hanna Barbera stuff. We got the quirky Daphne from Be Cool Scooby Doo for this film. Elvira and Bill Nye blended in very well in this movie. The Scarecrow and the Jack O Lanterns were great villains. The explanation about Velma being skeptical was good. It was such a surprise that the sheriff from the previous two films was the villain all along and that he’s not really a sheriff but Cutler Toe a bad guy they unmasked long ago who wants revenge on the gang and continue doing his illegal activities. Its pretty cool that the two previous films before this one were a trilogy. The Halloween party and Elvira saying Happy Halloween at the end was a good way to end the movie. People say that this film is a mix SDMI and BCSD and I 100% agree. What I also like about this movie is that Maxwell Atoms ( The Creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy) worked on it and this movie was similar to a Halloween special of Billy and Mandy: Billy and Mandy’s Jacked Up Halloween.

I loved getting to see Quirky Daphne return! :) The villains were indeed awesome, and I also thought it was a cool twist that the sheriff was a culprit from the gang's past. I thought they did a good job explaining Velma's skepticism in a way that made sense and wasn't cringey. I honestly love the ending where Elvira's hair is just a monkey lol. It's just so authentically weird and random that it's funny haha. Maxwell Atoms did a great job with this film.

10. Ghost Who's Coming to dinner - For me one of the less interesting episodes of pup.
9. Happy Halloween Scooby Doo - Whole movie focused on one massive car chase that went on for way to long.
8. WNSD Halloween - Aside the Reluctant Werewolf cameo this one just didn't hit it off for me. There seemed a real lack of an actual monster throughout and seriously how bad a parent you must be to constantly forget your own daughter's birthday. Overall verdict, lame.
7. A Halloween Hassle in Dracula's Castle - a good episode but for me doesn't stand up against some of the other's here.
6. Spooky Scarecrow: a reasonable mystery but I never felt these DTVs were overly that great and quite predictable in guessing who the villain is.
5. BCSD Halloween - Cleverly done.
4. To Switch a Witch - Agree this probably one of the darkest of the lot falling just behind Goblin King. How easy it is to rile an angry mob of scared villagers.
3. headless Horseman of Halloween: A classic and I'm sorry to say this but your justification for its position is pretty weak as using your logic you have no choice but to put Happy Halloween in last for dragging out a car chase for pretty much an entire hour.
2. Ghoul School - An absolute classic and although slightly cheating I feel putting it in here, can't deny an amazing moving
1. Goblin King - In my eyes, alongside Camp Scare, probably the best Scooby Movie this millennium and sadly something we'll probably never get again in the Scooby franchise.

10. Agreed "Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner? was a middle-of-the-road Pup episode, but I did still enjoy it.

8. I don't agree with the rest of your opinion, but it is absolutely ridiculous for parents to constantly forget your own daughter's birthday lol.

5. Glad someone enjoyed the BCSD Halloween episode. I was surprised how many people put it close to last place!

3. Ha! I absolutely see your point, but I thought the car chase was pretty entertaining even though I don't typically like those types of films. It just worked here.

1. Glad to see some love for Goblin King! Sadly, I think you're right that we won't ever get another Scooby movie like it. I think enough people hated it that they wouldn't want to make another one like it, plus the tone was just for a single film rather than an entire era. The few times WB has returned to a tone from a previous era, it's always been from an era, so I think it's less likely they'd try to replicate the tone of a single film.

8. It just felt it lacked a true monster, especially for Halloween and there wasn't enough someone in a mask constantly scaring Shaggy and Scooby.
5 and 1. Think these are both love them or hate them types of Scooby media and sadly for WB the Goblin King idea is just to risky profits wise to try again.

8. You didn't think the scarecrows felt like true monsters?

5 and 1. Agreed.

I feel like my list pretty much matches yours. I've always liked the holiday themed episodes of the series. You'd think Halloween would be a nightmare for them since they already deal with creeps in masks on a weekly basis lol.

I enjoyed The Goblin King movie also. I love it when a series do something new to the franchise so I was ok with it. I wouldn't mind if they do something like this again, but next time give Fred, Daphne and Velma bigger roles.

I loved Happy Halloween Scooby Doo because I felt like that movie brought the "fun" back into the movie series, because 13th Ghost and Return to Zombie Island had inconsistency issues and they tried to debunk all the real supernatural events. So thanks to Happy Halloween, the Scooby Doo and Courage crossover was fun, (I keep watching it over and over, someone might need to send help lol.)

Ghoul School is a CLASSIC! Definitely one of my favorites growing up. Would you like to see them bring them back in a future movie? I think I would. As long as it stay true to the events of the movie!

I know right? haha They still somehow manage to do an amazing job with all the Halloween episodes though!

That's exactly how I feel about Goblin King. I wouldn't want them to consistently do that every film, but it's always fun when a franchise experiments with different elements.

Totally agree that the movie brought all the "fun" back into the DTVs. I've only watched the Courage crossover once because I haven't had time, but I will admit I have thought about watching it again many times lol.

I would love to see the girl ghouls come back, just as long as they stayed 100% true to the events of the original film and it was nothing like Return to Zombie Island or Curse of the 13th Ghost!

The Headless Horseman of Halloween is the best Halloween episode because it started it all and is the most rememberable episode
