For once, there's actually some news on this site on April Fool's Day that is not a joke lol. Becks Wallace, who worked on Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, posted some Hex Girls designs on her Instagram page. I believe this would have been for Scooby-Doo and the Haunted High Rise. The image of Thorn can be seen above, whereas the images of Luna and Dusk can be seen below.

This is some cool news. But I just wish that all of these Scooby-Doo movies wouldn’t be canceled due to Zaslav.

If I were to speculate why Warner Bros Discovery cancelled this movie maybe it was because they felt that since the movie would focus on the hex girls maybe that the hex girls would take the spotlight away from the gang themselves since it was a Scooby doo movie.

That's possible, or another possibility could be they didn't want to make another sequel after the two from 2019 were critically torn apart by most fans. Either that or Zaslav is just greedy and wanted another tax write-off haha.

That could also be a possibility as well. Another reason I thought of was that they saw trick or treat Scooby doo as a finale to guess who because of its art style and considering that haunted high was going to have the same art style they probably thought having another Scooby doo movie in the guess who style was pointless. 4/2/2023 05:34:16 pm
That could be it too! I also think Trick or Treat might have been finished before the merger fully happened, so they figured they should just put it out because it was part of the old WB. Plus, it kind of was a kid-friendly preview of the Velma series with the exploration of Velma liking a girl, so testing the waters could have been another benefit they saw in releasing Trick or Treat.

Suppose we can't fullt judge the designs from such basic sketches, but based off how these look I'm glad they never got used. Bar Thorn (purely due to the guitar) they don't look like the Hex Girls at all.

I agree they don't look like the Hex Girls, but I would say Luna looks the most like herself of any of them rather than Thorn. Dusk looks the least like herself of any of them.

Hard agree. Their designs don't resemble the Hex Girls at all. Though after listening to an interview with Becks Wallace, the studio was aiming for a glam rock design. Not sure why they'd do that over a goth rock or something closer to their tone. Also learned that the record store in Oakhaven was a flashback scene about the girls getting a record by an artists named Johnny Warlock that inspired them to become a band.

I wasn't aware she'd done an interview, but it's great to know more about what the studio's intentions for this film were. Having the Hex Girls' designs modeled off of glam rock would have been a bit odd. I'm glad to hear the Oakhaven record store was just a flashback and not them trying to make another sequel that didn't live up to the original, as some people earlier in this comment thread were worried about.

WildWindVampire, I think that's probably the reason why Velma didn't get cancelled. They probably think Velma has a lot of potential as a character and trick or treat might have increased it.

It's possible, I also just think that the show got a lot of views out of curiosity and/or hate-watching which inspired WB to not cancel it because they are under the impression a second season will also get a lot of views.

I didn't mind them in the Guess Who Hex Girls episode personally. I don't think they look the best here, though.

That wouldn't have made too much of a difference for me. The way their faces are drawn looks off to me. Leave a Reply. |
