If there's anything more frustrating than CN's poor treatment of Scooby, it's the fact that it's now 2017 and countless Scooby episodes have still not been released in any format, DVD, Blu-Ray or VHS. Right now, a total of 131 episodes - that's over a fourth of the current count of 478 episodes (including each Scrappy short individually plus the non-series special episodes, such as Spooky Games, Haunted Holidays, etc.). As I mentioned last week in my Year-in-Review post, WB seems to be done with the 13 Spooky Tales sets. While I love those, I certainly prefer season sets for the simple reasons of 1) Not getting repeated episodes and 2) More new episodes. Being the avid Scooby fan I am, I can assure you that my Scooby shelf (and yes, I do have an entire shelf reserved for my Scooby DVDs lol) is getting quite full and the many 13 Spooky Tales doesn't help that. Another thing that annoyed me about the Spooky Tales is towards the end, the sets were mainly filled with already released episodes, meaning I had double and even triple copies of some episodes. The only thing I liked the Spooky Tales for other than the few unreleased episodes was the new specials! I really hope we will get more specials in future years even if it is truly the end of the 13 Spooky Tales sets.
So back to my point, the other reason is it's confusing for us collectors and people in general the way the episodes have been released. Firstly, with so many DVD's that are just re-releases, it's hard to know for the average fan which ones are actually new and which ones are simply re-releases. And most importantly, it's incredibly confusing to have the episodes spread across so many DVDs for some of the earlier series like the Scrappy-Doo series and The Scooby-Doo Show. I got an email which partially inspired this article last week, asking what the best way was to purchase The Scooby-Doo Show. I'll be honest with you all, I had to look at my own How to Have a Complete Scooby Collection guide just to remember which of the released Season 2 episodes were released on which 13 Spooky Tales DVDs. I even had to rewrite the email several different times to try to make it less confusing for the person. Ideally, I would like to see "The Scooby-Doo Show Season 2" get it's own DVD (after all, all of the Season 1 and 3 episodes have been already released since 2007!) first. I feel like we've waited long enough for those episodes and they were good episodes! I love the darkness and spookyish feeling to each of them, especially "The Creepy Heap from the Deep" and "The Chiller Diller Movie Thriller" (if you haven't seen them, they are a lot darker than the other episodes of that series!) Next, I think Scrappy should get some love and maybe have the Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Show Volumes 2 and 3 DVDs, or maybe a "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Season 2" which would at least get the remaining 18 shorts released from the first season of The Richie/Rich Scooby-Doo Show. In a perfect world, I think we should get all the seasons released at some point (I'll go into that more in a second). Though I know this will be an unpopular opinion, I'd also like to see Get A Clue get another shot. I'm a bit fuzzy on this but I *believe* I heard there wasn't a Get A Clue Volume 3 due to the bad sales numbers of Volume 2. I would love to see Volume 3, or even better a Season 1 or Complete Series set, but I really doubt we will. The series has such a bad reputation now I think our best chance will be a compilation DVD like 13 Spooky Tales. Another thing I think we need to see is a Scooby-Doo: The Complete Specials set! A few years back, Warner Archive released a Flintstones Prime Time Specials set which gave collectors every Flintstones special ever made. I think Scooby could pull this off too with great sales numbers, with a compilation of the six DTV specials on the 13 Spooky Tales set, Knight Time Terror, Night of the Living Doo, The Behind the Scenes Interviews plus maybe The Scooby-Doo Project? This is where the Laff-a-Lympics part comes in, now, on Amazon.com Laff-A-Lympics: Spooky Games is being retitled as "Laff-A-Lympics: The Complete First Collection". Could this mean we are getting a "Complete Second Collection" releasing the other 8 unreleased Season 2 episodes? I sure hope so, back in 2012 when I bought the set, I had been hoping that we would get Season 2 last summer for the 2016 Olympics (which obviously didn't happen), but I'm hoping 2018 is the year as it's the Winter Olympics, and this sudden title change might be a hint for that. Finally, in addition to the season sets, I think it would be nice to have complete holiday sets for Halloween and Christmas. Sure we got those two 13 Spooky Tales DVDs, but in my opinion they didn't do a good job compiling episodes. Both had many episodes on them that weren't related to the holidays at all ("Tenderbigfoot" is NOT a Christmas episode, WB, despite the fact that Bigfoot is technically a Yeti! lol) I would love to see a complete Christmas collection compiling all the Christmas/Winter episodes and a Halloween collection compiling all the Halloween/Fall episodes) While it's fun to hypothesize, I doubt any of this will actually happen soon other than maybe the Laff-A-Lympics set. In my opinion, WB has not been doing a good job releasing new content in general these past few years. I'd be completely satisfied if we saw a new season set and a new 13 Spooky Tales set every year in addition to the 2-3 DTVs being released. I hope that eventually, we will see something of the sort happen and finally get all the episodes released! ************************************************* As promised, that was my very first article of the year (with many more to come) on ScoobySnax! I enjoyed writing it, but this is totally just a learning curve. Of course I've written articles before for this site and in real life, but this is my first non-informational article, so this is completely a new (and exciting) experience for me! I'll continue to experiment around with the articles and the blog in general (a new weekly blog series is still to come at some point!), but the only way I know how I'm doing is if you guys give me feedback, either in the comments or through email. So if you want to give me feedback, whether positive or negative or constructive criticism, please let me know so I can write more fun, interesting articles in the future! Thanks and hope you all are enjoying this first week of 2017!

The dvd with all the scooby special would be great but I think is impossible. They just don't care. My wish list is: 1)scooby doo and scrappy doo seasons 2,3,4

The LEGO Scooby-Doo shorts collection is a wonderful idea, although I would assume it would go on another DVD as I doubt WB would make a 16-minute-long DVD set. Maybe it could go on one of the upcoming LEGO/Scooby-Doo films?

I have a feeling that the Lego shorts collection will be released one day. For the others I have no idea. For scooby doo and scrappy doo I think the problem is financial. I think they didn't sell as many as they wanted so we won't have the other seasons soon

I think you're likely right on the Scrappy-Doo DVDs not generating enough money for WB. I think it was the same with Get A Clue, likely bad (or not sufficient enough) sales numbers. Not sure what the issue is on Scooby-Doo Show or Laff-A-Lympics though.

maybe they think that the shows are too old and the scooby fans aren't interested in buying them Leave a Reply. |
