T.J Buzby and his brother Rufus are extremely close in appearance to what their voice actor Sorrell Booke looked like in real life. It is likely that those two characters were intentionally drawn as a caricature of Sorrell.

In addition, Sorrell Booke is interestingly most famous for playing another corrupt politician, Boss Hogg in The Dukes of Hazzard.

On another random note, this video came up when I was researching this fun fact and I have to admit the title amuses me to no end lol. I don't particularly find the content of the video to be super funny, but just the fact that somebody took the time to make a video like this is hilarious haha.

It is indeed very strange, but I appreciate the video for how utterly bizarre it is lol. Makes me wonder how someone got the idea to create a video like that haha.

🔔 FULL UPDATE 🔔
Below is a timeline of all the latest news regarding the new "Velma" series:

* End of September
On Instagram and Twitter the handles @velmatheseries are reserved and verified.

* Oct. 3
A few days before the panel of the series at New York Comic Con, the accounts are finally activated. Both use the first person, as if Velma herself were releasing information, a campaigning technique often used in the marketing industry in recent years, known by some scholars as Transmedia Storytelling. The accounts are in fact used as an extension of the character herself to translate the core message and value of the piece of media to other forms of media. Velma's first tweet, in fact, sees her using self-referential humor: "If you thought my first tweet would be “Jinkies” you don’t know me as well as you think!" On instagram a character art is posted with the text "This is my story told my way. Get ready for some main character energy" and the caption "If this was really my story told my way they wouldn't have shot me from such an unflattering angle." poking fun at who supposedly took her picture. In addition, the Instagram bio reveals that Velma will be set in Crystal Cove, California, just like the cult series "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated." Moreover, the Twitter banner posts part of the bust of Velma's official character design with the worde "Tease" on the side. The Twitter bio reads "Velma's origin story you didn't know you needed. But I knew because that's my thing. #VelmaTheSeries coming soon to HBO Max." On the same day, Velma tweets "Hey @hbomax not feeling all that purple on your platform. Yes, Daphne, this is a subtweet." hinting that Velma and Daphne will be rivals at the beginning of the series.

A new image is posted on Instagram with a different style than the previous one that sees Velma getting ready for the day with some issues with preparing breakfast and a science project with the text "Let's see how you handle being me!" and with the caption "If you can't love me at the height of my insanity...then okay yeah, fair". Later, the first official image of the series, already unveiled months ago by Mindy Kaling during a panel on her future projects, is released on Instagram with the description, "When I said I wanted hot girls to be more cerebral, this is not what I meant," hinting that the protagonist may also have sexual preferences toward the female gender in the series. On Twitter, on the other hand, Velma is self-celebrating, writing, "Look, technically I am not a trend, I am a timeless classic. But you may continue to celebrate me, it is a most pleasing vibe." Meanwhile, the Twitter banner image changes, revealing the official design of Crystal Cove High School, where Velma's adventures will take place.

Oct. 5
One day before Comic Con, Velma's socials, HBO Max, Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy reveal the first official poster for the series, complete with logo and blood dripping glasses, with the description "The Mystery Before the Inc." In addition, the Twitter account warns followers that "#VelmaTheSeries is an adult show! There are murders. There are crimes. There's me kissing people! Don't make it weird."

Velma's account posts a new image from the show with Velma crouched and censored in front of a monster wearing her glasses. The text of the photo reads "I look like a bean bag. FIND A BETTER PICTURE!" and the description "According to the marketing team, this is all we can show from the show without it being a huge spoiler and people on social mediq getting upset." The image is presumably one of Velma's hallucinations, anticipated by Mindy Kaling later on (read on for more information). Meanwhile, on Twitter, Velma comments on her cosplayers and the beautiful girls about to show up at Comic Con.

Meanwhile, New York Comic Con starts with a press conference by Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling on "Velma." During the conference, the two reveal that the show will be a crime show but with elements of teenage life. We will see the gang interact with each other but also with their family members and confront the issues that arise with age. The show foregrounds the portrayal of people of color, Mindy says she mirrors herself a lot in Velma and how sh

she is not an example of ordinary beauty. She also calls Fred the whitest character ever and his privileged white boy attitude will be portrayed in the show. The idea of making the subject of representing various ethnicities takes inspiration from "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" Later, Mindy reveals that the decision to create an adult version of the cartoon was taken to show a new side of Scooby-Doo. The show takes inspiration from "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" but the episodes will be more dynamic and scary. The creative team pushed from the beginning on the horror and modern component of the cartoon with Mindy going straight to the point saying “This is a scary show with murder." "What was so traumatic in high school that pushed the Mystery Inc to go after masked criminals?" says Mindy about the foundations for the plot of the series, and that in addition to the origins of the gang we will find out why Velma always exclaims "Jinkies!" or how Norville earns the nickname Shaggy. In addition, the series will explore pop culture references (such as the "Scream" saga which the teaser is inspired by) and teenage urges but also the economic status and differences of the gang’s family members. Regarding Velma's sexuality, the creators preferred not to spoil anything since the girl's sexual growth will be a main theme addressed in the series. In addition, although it will feature some slapstick comedy, much of the comedic aspects of the show will be reflected in the dialogues. Among the inspirations on the series, Mindy mentiones "Rick & Morty" and "Harley Quinn" (though with less violence and swearing and with the “adult” rating being more based on the goriness of the murders and unsettling situations Velma will face) and "X-Files”. Moreover, in order to adapt the characters to modern times, the creators were inspired by "Riverdale." In the series Velma will be a lonely flawed high school outcast with a working-class family life that makes her a snarky girl who is not always mindful of what comes out of her mouth. Mindy feels especially excited to be able to show the relationship with the girl's father, which will be different from the dynamics of the typical Indian father-daughter relationships shown on TV until now. In other interviews during NYCC, Mindy reveals that there will be one episode set during Prom and one during a “Fog Festival” held in Crystal Cove on a yearly basid. A poster of the same festival appears in the series teaser, revealed later on. Finally, Charlie Grandy confirms that the series will have a main overarching mystery while each episode will focus on teen life problems and there will be many easter eggs in each episode to honor the original show.[br][br]PHOTOS[br]A preview of Velma's hallucinations (keep on reading for more information)[br]https://www.instagram.com/p/CjYZM_XJZLT/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=[br][br]A screenshot from the teaser with posters from the Crystal Cove science fair and fog festival https://ibb.co/9N1QHRV[br][br]Subsequently, the full cast is revealed by various media outlets and by "Velma" herself on Twitter who explains the role of each cast member, some of which recall the descriptions leaked online a year ago, thus suggesting that the descriptions back then are 100% true even if some have been adapted and changed for internal reasons. I will include the casting call descriptions but be aware they may have been altered up to an extreme extent.[br]Below is the cast of "Velma”:[br][br] ⁃ Constance Wu ("Crazy Rich Asians"; "Fresh Off The Boat") voices Daphne Blake, in this iteration of Asian descent and with a slightly different look but with many traits already familiar to fans. The casting call description reads, "Forget everything you know about Daphne Blake. It should take zero seconds as there was nothing to know. She was attractive, but also… she wore purple. That’s it. Until now… Our Daphne is diverse, and a foundling raised by two female police officers. Yet, despite her loving home, Daphne still struggles with abandonment issues and an insatiable need to uncover her mysterious past. On the plus side, she’s been able to use that ruthless drive to claw her way to the top of Poortown (now readapted to Crystal Cove) High School’s popular clique “The Rich Kids and Daphne” as just a freshman. Though she’ll have to get in touch with her softer side to finally understand her complicated feelings for Velma. And, perhaps even more importantly, why she has red hair." Among other details, Daphne will, as always, be the hottest and most popular girl in high school, and at the beginning of the series it is revealed that she and Velma were best friends until something went wrong and they parted ways. In fact, in the teaser trailer, a picture of the girls as children can be seen pinned above Velma's desk but with Daphne's eyes crossed out, displaying the resentment between

the two.

- Sam Richardson ("Veep"; "Hocus Pocus 2") voices Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, in this version African-American and completely re-imagined. The casting call description reads, "Before Shaggy was America’s favorite self-medicating, squeaky-voiced teenager, with an undiagnosed eating disorder, he was Norville Rogers – the excitable, Black, handsome, and mildly spectrum editor-in-chief of Poortown (now readapted to Crystal Cove) High’s student newspaper, The Ranting Townie. Unfortunately, he was also completely oblivious to any and all social norms and cues, which is helpful when tracking down a story, but less good when it comes to being the closest thing Velma has to a friend. However, when Norville discovers a dark secret in his family’s past, Velma will be the only person who can help him make sense of his unraveling life. At least until, you know, he discovers weed and snacks." During NYCC we find out that Shaggy is against drugs at the beginning of the series but he will change his mind very soon. In fact, we will find out how from having a strict regimen Shaggy will become the burnout we know today.

⁃ Glenn Howerton ("It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia") voices Fred Jones, the only member of the gang who was not subject to any major physical changes. The casting call description reads, "Much like the original Fred, our Fred is a white guy who loves to take credit for everyone else’s work. But our Fred is also a pretty boy gym rat, riddled with daddy issues big enough to make Eric Trump say “damn.” And yet, Fred knows that no matter how douchey he acts, he’ll never live up to his father’s expectations. Because Fred has a deep dark secret. He’s sixteen years old and hasn’t gone through puberty yet. Worse. His secret is getting harder and harder to hide. Not just from his father but from his girlfriend, Daphne. Who’s getting a little bored with just over-the-clothes stuff. Fortunately, Fred is wrongly imprisoned for murders he didn’t commit. He needs the help of Poortowns High’s least popular student, Velma, to prove his innocence, and while it’s weird for Fred to see, let alone talk to, a girl like Velma he quickly realizes her thoughts and emotions have value." The boy's ethnicity will play an important part in the show as his family comes across as privileged but with many internal crises.

⁃ Jane Lynch ("Glee") voices Donna, one of Daphne's moms, a cop.
⁃ Wanda Sykes (previously guest starred as herself in "Scooby-Doo And Guess Who?") voices Linda, Daphne’s other mom, also a cop.

⁃ Russel Peters (comedian) voices Amran Dinkley, Velma's dad of whom the girl is usually disappointed in.

⁃ Sarayu Blue ("Never Have I Ever"; "P.S. I Still Love You") voices Diya Dinkley, Velma's mother, who has disappeared without a trace. It will be up to Velma to uncover the mystery of her disappearance. In the teaser, a poster about her disappearance can be glimpsed at with the character design.

⁃ Melissa Fumero ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"; "Blockbuster") voices Sophia, Amran’s girlfriend.

- Stephen Root ("Buffy") voices Sheriff Cogburn, the incompetent but endearing sheriff of Crystal Cove.

- Gary Cole (Mayor Jones in "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated") voices Lamont Rogers, a psychologist no one seems to want to talk to.

⁃ Cherry Jones ("24"; "Succession") voices Victoria Jones, Fred’s mom.

⁃ Frank Welker voices William Jones, Fred's father.[br][br] ⁃ Nicole Byer (comedian) voices Blythe Rogers, Shaggy's mother.

⁃ Weird Al Yankowic (previously guest starred as himself in "Scooby-Doo And Guess Who?") voices Dandruff Tuba.

⁃ Fortune Feimster (comedian) voices Olive, one of the most popular girls in high school. “Olive is the curviest and toughest of the popular ones, but also the funniest. When Daphne is not around, she takes over.

⁃ Yvonne Orji (comedian) doubles Gigi, one of the popular girls and Daphne’s friend. The casting call description reads “Daphne’s friend. She is the most wide-eyed and innocent of the group but finds her voice a bit over the course of season one.”

⁃ Shay Mitchell ("Pretty Little Liars"; "You") voices Brenda, the queen of the hot popular girls. SPOILER, she dies on the first episode (keep on reading for more information)

⁃ Debby Ryan ("Insatiable"; "The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody") voices Krista, one of the popular girls.

- Kulap Vilaysack ("The Office"; "Love") voices one of the popular girls.

⁃ Karl-Anthony Towns (NBA player) voices Jacques Beau, the handsome high school jock.

⁃ Ming-Na Wen ("Mulan") voices Carroll.

⁃ Ken Leung ("Star Wars"; "Lost"; "X-M

en") voices an unknown character.

⁃ Among the differences between the new descriptions and the old ones are the details of Daphne's mothers. The casting call for the two policewomen see their names changed and do not fully reflect the new descriptions. Below are the descriptions of both from a year ago that have most likely been readjusted: "Detective Diana Blay. Female, African American. The 30s-40s. Daphne’s mom, Diana is a hard-nosed, fourth-generation cop. She leads with her jocular sense of humor but is better at muscling confessions out of criminals than handling the subtle nuances of both police work and parenting; Detective Lillith "Lilly" Ke. Female, open ethnicity. The 30s-40s. Daphne’s mom, Lilly is a sweet, demure, caretaker who just wants everybody to be happy. She’s more comfortable using her words than her fists but will go full mamma bear when threatened."

Moreover, it is worth to note the absence of the character of "Spooner Garcia. Male, Latinx. The 30s-40s. Velma’s stepdad, Spooner is a loud, irrepressibly stoked, Guy Fieri-style self-made restaurateur who believes “Old Guys Rule” with zero sense of irony. And while he’s an alt-right blowhard, he loves Velma and Diya deeply and would do anything for them". Moreover, Velma's father is still alive in the new descriptions but deceased in those leaked online. In fact, in the series he will be the one who will have a girlfriend and not Diya. The mystery may have been about Amran's (Imran in the earlier description) death in the early writings of the series and not about Diya's disappearance. In fact, as stated in the old description of Amran, he was supposed to be the mystery novelist, but in this case it is Diya. Here is Amran’s old description: “Male, Indian American. The 30s-40s. Velma’s dad. If Tom Hanks were a small change, South Asian, history teacher, and amateur mystery writer he would be Imran Dinkley. At least from Velma’s In reality, while Imran was a great father, he was a less great husband with a bit of darkness." and Diya’s "Female, Indian American. The 30s-40s. Diya is Velma’s hardworking, put upon mother, struggling to have it all. A practical and measured lawyer by day, she’s often frustrated by Velma’s emotional outbursts and wishes she’d move forward with her life the way she has."

During NYCC, the first episode of the series is previewed and the first details leaked online. The episode opens with a scene of two cockroaches copulating in the Crystal Cove High School girls' locker room. Velma and Daphne are there while a physical brawl between naked girls is unfolding during a debate on the ethical appropriateness and obvious exploitation of nudity in media when a dead body falls from Velma's locker. It is a student named Brenda (Shay Mitchell) who has her skull cut in half and is found brainless. The mystery surrounding the death of Brenda, Daphne's former best friend, will see her join Velma in the investigation. Daphne's parents, both policewomen, question the girls and pinpoint Velma as the prime suspect, so they give her 24 hours to solve the mystery and clear her name. The problem is that Velma has not solved a mystery in years, not since her mother, a mystery novelist, disappeared from her life. Fred is introduced as a vain individual with a disability that makes it difficult for him to recognize people who are not hot. Apparently he is dating Daphne, but Brenda would have been his Plan B in case Daphne were too clingy. Norville is the last to appear and apparently has a crush on Velma. He therefore joins the investigation to try to clear her name. The Brenda murder case brings the gang face to face with sketchy drug dealers, dismembered body parts and forbidden relationships. It will be Shaggy's crush on Velma that will save her at the end of the episode (IGN).

On the same day, Broti Gupta, one of the show's writers shares the teaser trailer and reveals that the second season is already in production with her colleague Greg leading the writing for some episodes!
https://twitter.com/brotigupta/status/1578145233014882304?s=46&t=tJSFMUpYyA1-bVXP6_tnRQ

Finally, Adam Fay, art director for the show, confirmed the teaser is just a teaser and will not be part of any of the episodes.

No worries and wow, thank you for such a detailed account of the series! I don't know if I'll get to making a post about this today because I'm traveling, but I will write up a post about all the recurring voice actors (since I don't think I've posted about their roles yet) as well as any other info I've missed soon! Thank you so much again for compiling such detailed info on this!

Scooby Doo Meets The Boo Brothers:
This is my favorite of the 80s movies. This movie had a super dark tone. The setting of Beauregard Plantation was spooky and creepy. Farquard the Butler was a pretty creepy character. He has a hunchback, wears dark glasses, and laughs evilly. He also looks deranged without his glasses.

I liked the plot of Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy finding the Beauregard treasure and the riddles they had to figure out to to locate the treasure.

The Ghost of Uncle Beauregard was very creepy villain. “Leave this place”. The Headless Horseman was also pretty creepy. I like the Ghost Wolf too.

The Skull Ghost was a creepy villain especially when he had red eyes. When he lost his red eyes, he also lost all of his creepiness. There was one scene were he was glowing. They should’ve kept him like that for the remainder of the movie.

I really enjoyed the Boos Brothers as characters. They are like the ghostly versions of the Three Stooges. One of them even talks like JabberJaw just like how Curly talks like JabberJaw.

The ape was both silly and creepy. I enjoyed him appearing and scaring Scooby.

Sadie Mae Scroggins and her brother Billy Mae Scroggins trying to get Shaggy for different reasons. Sadie wanted to marry him. Billy wanted to shoot him. The scene with them following Shaggy in the woods was funny.

I like the twist that TJ Buzby was the Skull Ghost and the rest of the monsters the whole time and was impersonating his brother Rufus Buzby who’s the actual Sheriff.

I liked that the guys let the Boo Brother stay at Beauregard’s Plantation.

It was spooky that the real Beauregard’s ghost appear at the end of the movie.

I also like that Shaggy was a little more serious in this movie.

This is my second favorite Scooby-Doo movie! I loved the dark tone of this movie. The setting of the Beauregard Mansion was one of the creepiest settings in the entire franchise IMO. I thought Farquard was super creepy too. I love scavenger hunts, so the fact that this film was centered around Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy searching for Shaggy's uncle's treasure was perfect for me.

The Ghost of Uncle Beauregard was an amazing villain. I love how it was left uncertain which appearances he was real and which he was fake. I liked the Headless Horseman and wolf too, although I wonder if the wolf was actually a supernatural creature or just a random wolf.

The Skull Ghost was a great villain, but I agree with you he was much creepier when he was glowing and had red eyes. I wonder if it was intentional that they made him less creepy to signal that the first appearance was a real ghost (like Uncle Beauregard was). I could also see it just being an animation error.

Billy Bob Scroggins was a funny character. I love that scene in the woods where he's following Shaggy haha.

I liked the twist at the end with there being two sheriffs too. It was sweet that Shaggy let the Boo Brothers stay in his uncle's mansion.

I love the soundtrack of this movie so much. It captures the tone of Scooby so well!
