Both of Fred's only animated voice actors over the years, Frank Welker and Carl Steven (the latter from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo), also played Spock in the film Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock. Carl Steven played 9-year-old Spock, while Frank Welker provided the voice of Spock's screams throughout the film.

As coincidental Hollywood connections go, that one ranks WAY up there.

Especially given Star Trek 3 was released in 1984, meaning it was only 4 years apart...

Interestingly, both also provided voice work on the 1988 Ruby-Spears animated Superman series. Both are credited simply as "voice" on 2 different shorts in the series. The show would run 30 minutes with about a 20/10 split of a longer adventure of Superman and a shorter one of a young Clark Kent in Smallville.

Oops. Missed one other connection. Both worked on Popeye and Son in 1987. Stevens in an unspecified role for all 13 episodes and Welker in one episode as "Shelly's Father".

...and Scott Menville (Shaggy in Get a Clue and Red Herring in Pup) worked on the Popeye and Son show for 13 episodes, too! 7/13/2020 10:47:58 pm
WOW, that’s a lot of connections between all of them. That’s amazing, thanks for doing the research!

Your original find of the Star Trek 3 connection is still the most impressive of all. It's very rare to find voice actors who have played a single character collaborate on a live action project. 7/17/2020 09:42:12 am
It is really surprising, especially given they were the only two voice actors to ever play that character. A book on phenomena like this sounds really cool!

I've been working on a book for quite sometime now, which goes into detail of EVERY dvd/blu-ray release in all countries. Sorted by series and then again by release date. And it's ALMOST done....

Wow! That sounds like a really ambitious project! I would love to see it when it's done, if you want to share it!
