Today’s fan spotlight is Dallas Kinard. Dallas is a huge Scooby-Doo fan who loves making chronological timelines for his favorite fictional franchises. He and I have made a timeline together for Scooby, which you may have seen on this site!
Here’s Dallas’s profile: 1. What is your name? Dallas Kinard 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? When I was a kid, I used to watch Cartoon Network at my grandparents’ place on the weekends. Instantly fell in love with Scooby-Doo! 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite single episode thus far is probably "A Gaggle Of Galloping Ghosts" from SDWAY?. As a kid, I had this one on a Cartoon Network VHS tape and loved seeing all of the monsters together! As for film, it's honestly a toss up between Zombie Island and Cyber Chase. Both are so good for different reasons. ZI is easily the darkest and most serious SD film of all time, which to this day I absolutely love. And CC is just so darn fun, especially seeing the OG gang interact with the older, more jaded gang. I love those movies so much! 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I'm a chronology/timeline junkie so I work on putting multiple fictional franchises into chronological viewing orders. Scooby is just another one of those that I've been working on. I've contributed to this site by sharing my first draft of the Scooby timeline project I've been working on. Still have a lot of work to do in order to get it all figured out! 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? I think the best series I've watched, and I haven't seen all of SD (in fact, I'm pretty behind) is the original series. It has an excellent vibe and tone that none of the other series have quite captured yet. As for era, the late 90s/early 2000s is when I think the franchise was at its best. Especially those four DTV's that started with Zombie Island and ended with Cyber Chase. 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? Zombie Island, hands down. I think I heard that this is actually happening so I'm very excited! 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I'd like to see the tone of the DTV's go back to those late 90s/early 00s. A bit darker and more adult. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Shaggy for sure. I've always thought he had the best lines and overall sense of humor. As a kid, I wanted to be Shaggy to the point where I would dress like him in elementary school! My favorite iteration of Shaggy is the 1980s red shirt, blue pants, brown shoes one. The Boo Bro's features a more mature Shaggy that I always liked. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Probably any of the werewolves. I always liked how they were portrayed in Scooby. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Does Batman count? If so, definitely Batman! 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Just a DVD/Blu Ray collection that is slowly growing! I plan on collecting the entire animated canon at some point! 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? The characters. Without good, well-written, well-voiced characters, I don't think any franchise can last. It's the characters that keep people coming back to this world. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? Besides Scooby, I'm also a huge fan of Star Wars, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Animated Universe and other franchises (I won't bore you with a list!). I also put the same amount of timeline effort into those franchises because I have a belief that the order a first time viewer watches franchises in has a massive impact on their perspective of any given franchise. And I personally believe that chronological order is the best way for someone to watch any franchise so the viewer can see how characters begin and end, as if they are living the experience with them. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! Be on the lookout in the near future for my updated chronological viewing order on this site! Thank you so much for this opportunity to share my passion for SD! Thanks Dallas for offering to be a part of this fan spotlight project! Feel free to leave Dallas a comment in the section below, and check back tomorrow for another fan profile!

Thanks for the insight! I too love the OG green Shaggy, but I think I was ready for something a little different!

I just watched the sequel to Zombie Island. I'd rather watch Scooby Doo in Arabian nights on repeat for 10 hours.

Dallas, that must be very time consuming to put the timelines together. Is there a website I can go to to see the ones you've done?

Hey! Yes, it is very time consuming! I have them all in word docs that I keep in my Google Drive folder. Is there a franchise in particular you would like to see?

I'm, of course, partial to Scooby, but I just find it fascinating when people take the time to do something like that. If you ever share them let me know. I'd look at them even if I'm not interested in the franchise. Leave a Reply. |
