Given I wrote an article about my rankings for the finales, which inspired a lot of people to do their own rankings in the comment section, I thought it might be fun to turn this into a poll.
Here are the results from last week's poll: What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode featuring a werewolf? I like all series finales. I’m putting my vote for Movieland Monsters. I thought the episode was really fun and cool going through all those famous movies. I really like the song they played at the end. It was a good way to end the series

Agreed, the homage to movies was a fun way to end a series that mainly had people from TV/movies as guest stars!

Hmm, since on that last post talking about finales and premiers and such I ranked them as how effective they are as finales and premiers, I will vote how much I like them as episodes and enjoying watching them to change it up

Honestly, I feel like regardless of ranking them through how effective they were as finales or voting based on how much I liked the episodes, I would still pick "Come Undone" either way. It was just such an amazing way to end the series IMO and no other Scooby finale quite feels like it. I would agree with all five choices, plus Professor Huh Part 6 ¾, are among my favorites of the finales in terms of how much I liked the episodes (rather than how effective they were). That's really neat that your favorite is "Wedding Bell Boos!" It's definitely such a classic Scooby episode and one of my favorite of Scrappy-Doo episodes of all time. I love that we get to meet so many of Shaggy and Scooby's relatives, and that the villain himself was Shaggy's relative (as well as the neat setting of Shaggy's family home).

Come Undone is probably the objective “best” episode out of the listed, but it is not one I would want to watch all that much because of its dark tone and such. These ones are just fun. I’ve been meaning to finish off the Be Cool episodes I haven’t seen yet but I’ve been a bit busy so can’t comment on Professor Huh. 8/9/2021 10:49:05 am
"Come Undone" is also one that's best watched along with the two proceeding it, so it's more time consuming to watch that one as well given it doesn't necessarily make sense on its own without the two before it. I would highly recommend watching Professor Huh? when you get a chance. It's amazing and my second favorite of the finales to watch.

I own the VHS now thankfully (and it might be my most watched VHS), but yeah those two episodes go together REALLY well. Wedding Bell Boo’s offering the more lighthearted story (highlighted by Gaggy Rogers and Whoopsy Doo) while Loch Ness Mess offers up the darker, classic Scooby Doo feel type of story. I mean Loch Mess Mess is clearly the better episode, but they go so well together 8/11/2021 12:26:57 am
Agreed "Loch Ness Mess" is much better, but I'm actually kinda excited to watch these two together now haha. I never thought about how many similarities the two of them had before!

Agreed. Haunted Carnival is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the series. Dick Van Dyke obviously was a huge bright spot in his fantastically done guest appearance. The setting is very unique and underrated in my opinion. Not necessarily that a carnival is unique, but they managed to make this setting in broad daylight which allowed for a brighter atmosphere and made it more fun, yet still managed to make the carnival a creepy setting. Add on a few really well done jokes and this was just an amazing episode

Haunted Carnival has always been in my top 5 New Movies episodes, it's awesome. 8/12/2021 09:48:24 am
I agree that the setting being done in broad daylight is super unique! It's somehow still really spooky and they did an amazing job with the setting/atmosphere of the episode.

I would posit that whether we like it or not, the 13th Ghost movie deserves a place on that list, not in place of the series ending but maybe with it.

Also very fair point, from a distance it's kind of nice that one of scoob's incomplete sagas is now finished (are there any other "plot threads" that have been dropped?) but I do wish it had been better, and didn't chicken out on the real ghosts, I hate that about some of the movies the last few years where they do fantastical premises but refuse to do anything supernatural with them. Happy Halloween strained credulity with me, cause I honestly didn't see the point of making the pumpkins look like the townspeople and the amount captured... well someone's gonna need air or to go to the bathroom in that tiny cage. 8/9/2021 10:51:16 am
I agree Happy Halloween would have been amazing if it would have had the pumpkins be supernatural. The pumpkins looking like the townspeople given they weren't real must have taken a metric ton of dedication on the culprit's part lol. You're right it's a very unfeasible plan though haha.

@John Locke, Curse of the 13th Ghost was so bad I'd rather not consider it the 13 Ghosts finale honestly. A couple other Scooby abandoned threads would be Dr Phineus Phibes after the end of Get a Clue, or anything that has to do with Scrappy (even the 2002 movie as terrible as his fate was). Like what happened after Reluctant Werewolf (including the last frame)? What's even the outcome of the gang? Or did those 80s movies maybe take place before 13 Ghosts? Either way Daphne must've left for that bit for some reason (and returned if you go with the 13 Ghosts coming after the movies). And let's not get into Fred and Velma, cuz either way they're literally nonexistent after New Mysteries. 8/11/2021 12:21:27 am
@Becker If we could get a legitimate sequel to Reluctant Werewolf that actually stayed true to the tone, I'd love to get a direct continuation that follows what happened when Dracula appeared at their window. I feel like that set it up for a super interesting sequel, even though I'm sure that's not what they were thinking when they made the film. I have not a lot of faith in WB's current sequel making abilities given the last two, but it would be neat to delve into some of those loose 80s threads.

Yup, I've always wondered why HB didn't even try to explain the quite significant changes between shows and/or movies for a decade there. There's so many questions. 8/12/2021 09:47:45 am
The reason they didn't make an episode introducing Scrappy-Doo is because the episodes were animated last-minute overseas and sent back days before it aired. HB didn't know what episode would be sent back first, so they didn't want to risk that the "origin story" episode aired out of order. This is something Mark Evanier revealed in an interview.

Oh wow, that's quite surprising! They were this close to not getting SD&SD out in time, I never knew that. That explains why the theme song for the show made sure to really inform the audiences as best as it could with somewhat of an origin, interesting.
Matt
8/12/2021 10:47:51 am
I’ve always considered the theme song to be their version of an origin story 8/12/2021 01:56:10 pm
It is pretty shocking that they were super close to not getting the show out in time! Like Matt, I've always thought of the theme song as being Scrappy's origin story, though it does still leave a lot of questions unanswered, like how did Scrappy get in that box? Who sent him there? lol

I feel like I have to go with Come Undone. It worked so well because Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated had a overarching story and everything was lined up and plotted out since the first episode. So seeing everything come together in the end was cool. But the one thing I didn't like about it was the new timeline it created and the gang having new lives they wasn't even a part of.
Reply
8/11/2021 12:22:40 am
Yes! I absolutely agree! I didn't mind the new timeline that much to be honest, though I totally understand why people wouldn't like it. It's interesting because I feel like as praised as "Come Undone" is for being such an epic finale, there seems to be just as many people who hate that it ended with a new timeline.

Don’t Fool With A Phantom: This series finale was good. I liked that this episode for its super spooky tone. The wax phantom was super creepy as well as Mr. Grisby. Funny things in this episode, like Shaggy and Scooby dance eating, eating the wax fruit, when they were on the ceiling and when Shaggy and Scooby tricked Fred,Daphne, and Velma. Fred evened laugh because he thought it was funny. Shaggy moaning like a mummy was like a call back to Scooby doo and a Mummy Too. When they said next time there’s a mystery they will send the wax statue. This series finale also aired on Halloween.

The Haunted Carnival: This episode was fun and creepy. Dick Van Dyke was a great guest star. You can tell that he was super excited in his role. The different types of monsters in the episode gave it a really spooky vibe. In the end, when Dick Van Dyke asked the gang to be apart of his carnival after they helped saved it and they happily agreed, I’ve always liked that.

The Beast Is Awake In Bottomless Lake: I agree that this episode didn’t really feel like much of a finale. I did still liked it though. The Beast of Bottomless Lake was a very creepy villain. Also when he grabbed Scooby tale, it looked like he was about to have his very own Scooby Snack. I always thought that was pretty intense.

I have never liked this episode too much. It is okay but subpar for the series imo, and a poor choice to close out the series. Would’ve liked to see other late episodes in the series such as A Menace in Venice or Diabolical Disc Demon get the honor of the finale because they are both very good imo

I feel like the reason so many people hate this one is because it feels like a backdoor pilot leading into the Scrappy shorts. I personally didn't really like it for its lack of inclusion of Fred, Velma and Daphne, and because it didn't include a monster, but it's definitely not the worst Scooby episode.

A Nutcracker Scoob: Not bad for the first ever Scooby Doo Christmas special and given that is was the series finale I really thought it was good. Horror Scope Scoob: This episode was left off a cliffhanger. Man I hate cliffhangers to shows. We have just have to see how it all ends. Cliffhangers are good episodes though like this one.
Reply

I also hate cliffhangers, but I even would have liked it better if they would have mentioned that they still had to catch the 13th ghost or given some clue to who the 13th ghost was, instead of it just feeling like a normal episode of the series. They could have switched any episode with this one, because nothing about this episode felt like finale material. This was admittedly one of the weaker episodes of the show as well.

Curse of The 13th Ghost: Despite it being all fake it was still pretty good. Seeing Vincent Van Ghoul, an older Flim Flam, the red van they drove and Daphne having a new look based of her look in the 13 ghosts was awesome. The opening sequence was a call back to episodes of 13 ghost. Flim Flam mentioning Scrappy. They were on a plane in this movie. In an episode of the 13 ghost, Shaggy flew a plain. This movie also had a really good chase scene song that fits the theme of 13th ghost.

I for one consider movies like Curse of The 13th Ghost, Return to Zombie Island to be complete rubbish and trash and a true disgrace, to the Scooby-doo franchise. All those consistencies/continuity errors made neither movies make no sense whatsover.

Wrath of Waitro: This one was weird. It was nice seeing Shaggy and Scooby being Commander Cool and Mellow Mutt again. However, this episode didn’t feel like a series finale. The Ghost of Ms. Shushman would’ve been a better series finale giving it was an actual mystery.

I agree with ShadowScooby on this one. It was a fun little adventure and there was nothing wrong with the episode, but it didn't feel like a finale. E-Scream: I really like this episode. Velma in a mystery solving game and gathering clues about her friends. It shows that she knows her friends really well. Ever since the franchise, Fred would always have the gang split up. Daphne she was always into fashion and I believed it really showed in A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Shaggy and Scooby hate to be live bait unless they do it for a Scooby Snack and we all know Shaggy’s Catchphrase is zoinks. I really like the Osomons. They were great villains. The zombie teenagers were creepy.

Uncle Albert Alert: This episode was good series finale. We found out the Uncle Albert was Dr. Trebla this whole time. In fact Trebla is Albert spelled backwards. It was cool seeing him in person after seeing him as a hologram and for him Shaggy and Scooby being able to take down Dr. Phineas Phibes.

It was somewhat easy to guess that Dr. Trebla was Uncle Albert given the clues throughout the series, but I also loved this finale and it was fun to have Shaggy and Scooby go on such a dangerous mission to infiltrate Phibes' lair. Wish we would have found out what happened to Phibes though, but it sounds like they were considering making a third season that ended up not happening from what someone (I think Lance Rutt?) said on here before from an interview with the show's creator.

Come Undone: Now this series finale was epic and really intense. The Evil Entity eating everyone one and sending his minions to attack everyone gave me chills. How the gang were tossing the sphere to each other was like how they were tossing Ben Ravencroft’s book. The gang run like they did in Where Are You away from the evil minions. After they destroyed the entity, they celebrated like they did in the first episode of mystery incorporated. Seeing the new time line and changing everything and everyone was pretty cool and weird. As they gathered around the computer it’s just like how they gathered around reading the book in What a Knight For A Knight. I enjoyed them doing the mystery machine and driving off to solve more mysteries. Nova saying good bye Scooby doo and saying he was the bravest dog ever was awesome. We can get audience laughing at the end, a homage to the older episodes having a laugh track. I really liked the new end credits. I feel like this is going to win the poll.

Totally agreed. This was the most intense, epic Scooby finale ever. It definitely felt like a similar level of intensity to the Ben Ravencroft scene in Witch's Ghost. The entity was an incredible villain and even though some people hate the change in timeline, I thought it was an amazing way to end the show. I also liked how the gang ended up going to Harlan Ellison's university to solve mysteries. And you were correct, it did win the poll by a huge margin! :)

Professor Huh? Part 6 3/4: This is another good series finale. We find out why Fred is obsessed with mysteries because of his father Donald Jones aka Professor Huh. Rose his former friend, always wanted to solve mysteries but every mystery they gang has solved in this series, Rose couldn’t do them because the gang always beat here to it. She then decided to frame them for a crime so that she can be the only mystery solver. They were however able to defeat her. Also at the end, at Fred’s house with that self destruct device, I hope that he’s okay.
