New information about Velma was announced today at Warner Brothers-Discovery's panel at Annecy Festival in France. Season 2 of the show has been confirmed to be in production. In addition, it was announced season 2 would be released sometime in 2024, although no specific date has been announced yet. The show was also confirmed to still be considered a Max Original, which debunks previous rumors that season 2 might air on the Tubi streaming service due to poor audience reception. You can read more about the other shows that were announced at the festival in WB's press release.

Also they announced the cancelled Looney Tuned movie to be released under a different name omg. Maybe we have hope?

That would be amazing if we still could get Holiday Haunt or Haunted High Rise!

Honestly can't say I care about either. I would've been fine with them if they came out, but I don't care about parading for them to release them. 6/15/2023 02:51:59 pm
I'm not going to be devastated if we don't get either of them, as I've kinda already written them off in my mind. It'd be cool if there was some way we could get them IMO, because I think it'd be great to see the Hex Girls again and I also enjoyed SCOOB! A movie rebooting A Pup Named Scooby-Doo would also be awesome, though!

Man, Scooby Doo is getting worse, of course the good Scooby Doo is still fantastic but new additions such as this one and Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo are really trying to change the characters just to adapt to modern society and making them weaker.

Stupid comment, What's New didn't change the basic formula at all. Just changed the animation and obviously had more technology involved.

Not a stupid comment. You didn’t provide any criticisms to their structures, plots, or any real criticism to characters other than the fact that you are very obviously dancing around the fact that you are complaining about Velma liking girls 6/15/2023 09:20:19 pm
I'm not a fan of what Velma did to the franchise but that's moreso because of the bad writing/social commentaries, and don't personally feel it's reflective of anything other media in the franchise. Trick or Treat was pretty subtle and natural in giving Velma a female love interest and I personally didn't feel it changed her in a way that was inconsistent with her character.

Just like Matt said above, you heavily implied that Velma or the others not being straight makes them weaker characters. Lumping Trick or Treat in with Velma is what gave it away. It's not hard to read through "adapt to modern society" and the meaning behind that.

Don't know what happened to Jayden's most recent comment, but my response was towards their now erased reply, just in case this produces confusion. 6/20/2023 01:43:34 pm
@Becker I deleted it as Jayden was banned from the site on Saturday, due to another comment I erased, where he went on a rant against Matt about how people today are weak and stupid, then made some other remarks that confirmed he was being blatantly homophobic.

Oh, I didn't get to see that comment when it was up. His intentions were quite clear even without seeing that one. He should do some introspection with that "weak and stupid" remark. Is he banned again? If so for how long?

Very unfair and preferential treatment, Becker called me stupid and weak (but he doesn't even know me LOLOL) 6/20/2023 03:55:06 pm
The ban is now permanent, he's made his intentions quite clear at this point. Leaving the above comment up to demonstrate this, even though he is still banned. If he attempts to get around his ban again, best to just ignore the comments and let him shout into the void.

Yeah, now that's a pathetic person if I've seen one.

I'd be very surprised if this got renewed for season 3; I'm betting it will be the last season as many people will choose not to watch it again given how bad the first season was.

Not an inspired decision, to say the least.

Given they announced the show was in development only days after it had finished airing the first season, I doubt that they took audience criticisms into account which is unfortunate.

You know, I'm sort of interested to see what they do with it in S2 - like not being able to take your eyes off a car crash...

I haven't decided whether I'll check out season 2 or not. I would check it out for the "car crash" reason you mentioned above, but I also don't want to monetarily support the project and encourage them to make more seasons.

Would that be your first time you deliberately choose to never watch an official piece of Scooby media?

Maybe, for the trainwreck. I think I'll at least watch other people's reaction to the episodes so that I don't suffer alone lol.

Well, at least it will be filling the void until they can get another Scooby project up and running

I don’t even know anymore. There’s NO reason that Velma should’ve gotten renewed for a season 2. There were NO positives from season 1, and I don’t think season 2 will get much better. I’ll watch the first episode of season 2, and if it doesn’t get much better, then I won’t ever watch another episode of Velma again.

Sadly I think you're absolutely right, they originally said they had season 2 in development a couple days after season 1 stopped airing, so it's hard to imagine they took time to consider any of the criticisms people had of the show and changed them in season 2. It seems like they only renewed it based on how many viewers they had alone, without into account that a lot of the people watching didn't like it. Checking out the first episode to see if it got any better is a good way to approach it and I may do that, although my hopes for them substantially changing anything are very low. As you said, there were no positives about season 1, so they'd have to change the show completely to even make it work.

This is only compounded by the fact that season 2 was actually in development since 2022, before a single episode aired to be able to even hear criticisms. The moment a season is officially renewed isn't the moment the crew start working on it. 6/16/2023 05:20:45 pm
The earliest article (https://movieweb.com/velma-season-2-development/) I could find says that development began in January 2023, but it's possible it started before that, unless there's another source that I missed confirming that development started in 2022.

Yeah, nope, if I do force myself to watch it it would be via "frowned upon means" like the first season. Would never support such a pile of dog shite.

I will also likely be watching via "frowned upon means" if I do check it out. I can't decide whether or not I'll do reviews if I do decide to watch.

If you watch it, you should definitely review it, so that the suffering wasn't in vain 6/20/2023 07:56:17 am
Haha, if I do watch the whole season and not just one episode, I will probably be inclined to share my suffering with others lol. I like Mr Neither's idea of sarcastic reviews too haha. Leave a Reply. |
