Update 4/2: Collider has confirmed the April 25 date. All episodes will be released on Max's site that day.
According to the monthly "What's New on Max" video for April, we will officially be getting the second season of Velma next month on Max (confirmation is at the 0:22 mark). While no official date was provided, Max CEE Updates posted on X that April 25 is the release date, and that all episodes will be added on the same day rather than two per week like the first season. This X account isn't an official source and I typically try to avoid posting rumors; however, the account posted the April 25 date on Monday, March 18, which was before this video came out confirming the release date was April, so it's possible they have an inside source. That said, note that while we do know it will be releasing in April, the specific date hasn't been confirmed by an official source, so take April 25 with a grain of salt for now.

Hopefully there isn’t any hate watching this go around and this is the last of it. I know I certainly won’t be watching in any context

Yeah I'm hopeful it isn't renewed again either. Much of the season 1 buzz were around the first few episodes, and then people pretty much stopped talking about it as soon as the finale aired, so I'm guessing there won't be as much buzz about this season.

Yup they have zero confidence in this if this is the way they're officially announcing it lol. Not only is the date confirmed just a month in advance and all the eps being dumped at once rather than two per week like season 1, but it's done in the most secretive and unobstrusive way possible. WB and Max are clearly really embarrassed about the show (which ideally would mean it should've been cancelled, but I digress), but they knew they couldn't release it on a whim without marketing it, so they decided to advertise it in the most lowkey way imaginable so as to bring as few eyes to its existence as they can.

Completely agreed, I think they definitely ordered this season in advance (or all 20 episodes were a part of season 1 and they just split it) and then don't know what to do with it now. To be fair though, they kinda did this with Be Cool (and to an extent Guess Who) too.

WB have been greelighting Scooby shows with 2 seasons off the bat for the last 20 years and haven't renewed them again once

I pretty sure this is exactly what happened. That kind of thing is common in streaming cartoons. The new Futurama season has done the same thing. 3/24/2024 10:16:25 am
Technically What's New Scooby-Doo got three seasons and that was in 2006, but yeah, you're right about all the shows 2006 and after. It's odd to me that WB keeps ordering two seasons of a show, and then they completely drop the ball on promoting it to any extent during the second season. I guess at least Season 2 of SDMI got a little promotion, but they did just burn off the episodes on weekday afternoons when most kids would be in school.

WNSD wasn't greenlit 20 years ago, it was 22+ years ago (including pre-production). Even the third season was greenlit a little over 20 years ago, since they'd need time to make it before airing it in 2005 (it was never supposed to premiere episodes in 2006, but one episode kinda got forgotten for a while)

Meanwhile the apocalypse has been scheduled for the 24th April, an absolute shame.

Well, I can’t say I’m excited… but I’ll hope that this is at least a marginal improvement. If there is even just one episode that I could leave the season saying I liked okay enough to give a 6/10 to I’ll be happy and deeply surprised. We’ll see, I guess.

Yeah, same here. I have no motivation to watch it, which will be a first for me when it comes to Scooby content. I may check it out eventually a while after the fact, as I admittedly don't want to watch it right away and contribute to the hate-watching that got it renewed. I also may just end up ignoring it entirely; the first season was an increasingly miserable watch for me and I'm honestly not even slightly excited to check this out.

I understand that. I can’t help but watch because I’m just too nosy a completist to not see for myself what happens. And on top of that, I have watched every single new movie and episode of Scooby with my family since I was born, so I’m not gonna suddenly break that streak now! 3/24/2024 04:45:17 pm
I've always felt the same way in terms of my completism, so I totally feel that haha.

It seems to me movie and tv wise, that we will be getting season 2 of Velma, the Velma special, and probably a movie in September or October this year. That will probably be it.

Will Daphne get her own workout series after all that?

I think you're likely right, other than I really have no idea on the movie, but I'm hopeful we get one. I'm not sure if they'd choose to release it in a different month this year, since the Velma Halloween special is likely airing in October, but maybe it won't matter if they release both at the same time, since the movie would be for kid-friendly audiences whereas Velma is a completely different target demographic entirely.

I’m sorry to Velma fans , but I think we are most likely going to the old formula hopefully in 2025, I doubt a season 3 to be renewed.

Don't worry, 99.9% of people agree they should not renew it for a 3rd season and there's almost 0% chance it gets renewed.

Yeah, as mentioned above, WB hasn't renewed a Scooby series for a third season since What's New, Scooby-Doo? back in the 2000s, so I think it's pretty unlikely that this would be renewed again for a third season.

100% not watching this i'll only watch reviews of the episodes i wish they'd bring back Guess Who or at least make another show done with the art style of Guess Who and maybe the comedy of Be Cool

I'd be down for a show with the art style of Guess Who if it had the humor of Be Cool. I don't think I'd want more of Guess Who again since personally I'm ready to move on from the crossovers, although I would definitely prefer Guess Who to Velma by a large margin.

I mean comparing Guess Who to Velma is like choosing whether to have a dirt sandwich or a dogcrap sandwich for lunch. Of course I’d rather have the dirt sandwich, but SURELY we can get something better than either of these options Leave a Reply. |
