I didn't expect to love this episode as much as I did, but wow, this was incredible! Reverend Run was a fantastic guest star with an amazing presence in the episode. He seemed like he was so into his role, and I honestly found his little raps throughout the episode to be kind of quirky and fun.
The setting of the abandoned Youth Center was super creepy and made the episode feel like it had the darkest tone of any episode in the show. The Ghost of Tabb Tatters and the Skeleton of Bones McCann were both incredible villains. I don't think they could have possibly made either of them any better. I wish we would have gotten to see Tabb Tatter's face turn into a skull more than just the one time in the cold open though, that was so spooky! The shadow of Bones McCann's skeleton coming down the hall towards the gang mid-way through the episode was arguably the creepiest scene in the show. Another thing I found to be incredibly strong in this episode was the mystery. One shortcoming this series has repeatedly struggled with is not developing the mysteries very much in favor of focusing on the guest stars, but I thought this episode had a great balance of creating an engaging mystery and focusing on Reverend Run. The Crystal Cove reference when Velma was looking up the library database was fun too! Honestly, even Shaggy and Scooby rapping didn't bother me at all. I found that and the "rap battle" with the Skeleton of Bones McCann pretty amusing. Shaggy and Scooby's "driver's license" rap was so cringey that it somehow became amazing because it was so bad lol. Olivia Rodrigo who? haha Scooby's rap at the end though wasn't in good as English as it was in Turkish. The Turkish version was far better haha. I truly expected this to be an average episode, but this far surpassed any expectations I would have had for it. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in today...but just everything about this episode was amazing to me. This climbs right to the top for me, right below the Hex Girls at #2/52. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Legend of the Gold Microphone! 3. A Haunt of a Thousand Voices! 4. Total Jeopardy! 5. The Horrible Haunted Hospital of Dr. Phineas Phrag! 6. The Last Inmate! 7. Yes this episode was so spectacular. Reverend Run was an awesome guest star and really into his role. His rapping was pretty on point. Shaggy and Scooby rapping was pretty cool as well. This episode is without the darkest in this series. The Ghost of Tabb Tatters and Skeleton of Bones Mcann were really cool villains. How Tabb Tatters face turn into a skeleton remained me of The Ghost of Dapper Jack Rogers, how his gaze turned from human to skeletal. I liked how the Skeleton of Bones Mcann appeared from the floor and the ceiling, gave this episode a really scary vibe. There was indeed balance with the mystery and the guest star in this particular episode.

Totally agreed. I feel like the rapping bits could have been painfully cringey, but they were done in such a way that it was silly and I enjoyed that. The Skeleton of Bones McCann coming out of the floor (and the ceiling) was super creepy!

What I really like about this episode was the theme: rap/hip. Most Scooby Doo music episodes are centered around rock n roll. I like that in this episode, it was a different type of music genre. I’m no saying I hate Rock n Roll, just cool to see something new that they never did before. It funny to because i always thought would they do a mystery that centered of rap/hip hop. They finally did and it’s with a famous hip hop artist.

Agreed, but what's funny about your comment is Run DMC (the band Reverend Run was a part of) is actually most famous for doing a rap cover of a rock song with Aerosmith called "Walk This Way."

Oh yah you are correct, I first heard about RUN DMC from this sitcom I used to watch Everybody Hates Chris I don’t know if you ever watched it. Anyway, they mentioned RUN DMC and Aerosmith singing Walk This Way. I also started listening to som of their songs ever since then. 6/10/2021 10:53:14 am
I have heard of Everybody Hates Chris, but haven't watched any episodes of it.

This was another okay episode. There isn't anything I really hated, but at the same time there isn't much I loved aside from it feeling like a classic scooby mystery. The one thing I really liked was Bones McCann, I think his personality really funny and creepy at the same time. Overall decent, but not one of my favorites.

I think that's what I liked about it so much, that it was a very classic-feeling Scooby mystery and it wasn't them trying to force the classic feeling like they did with the first few episodes of season 1. You make a great point about Bones being funny and creepy at the same time lol.

Interesting list! A little surprised to see "The High School Wolfman's Musical Lament" at the very bottom. Was it just because it was a musical?

That's fair. I'm not a huge fan of Music of the Vampire either, so I get it.

Really good episode. One of the best of the series. Great guest star and plot. My only complaint is Velma disappearing and solving the mystery rather than actually showing the stuff happening

I guess that wasn't the greatest, I didn't really mind it though personally.

Yeah it is just a small complaint, but it is one of the things that I wish the series didn't do so much. I do really like the episode though. Like you predicted, it definitely did have the darkest atmosphere of the series. I'd really like to see a darker series next, like Scooby Doo Show season 2. A lot of it has to do with using darker colors and dark background music 6/10/2021 12:16:49 am
Even seeing the Turkey recording of the episode, the atmosphere looked incredibly dark given the gang was just walking around the abandoned youth center by themselves at night. I'm really glad that my prediction ended up coming true! Even then, I still didn't expect to like it quite as much as I did. I would LOVE a darker series next in the style of the second season of The Scooby-Doo Show! That would be incredible! I hope that's what we end up getting!

Given the general public’s preference of SDMI to Be Cool and Guess Who, we could be due for a darker series. Maybe not SDMI level but something a bit less goofy 6/11/2021 10:52:47 am
Agreed! People loved SDMI so I think a darker series would do really well ratings-wise.

The ghosts were my favorite villains of the series, honestly. They were so creepy! I hadn't thought about Bones's bones separating so much, but that's definitely a plot hole given it was a costume haha.

No worries, Barry. I'm so glad you like the site! Here's the link to Gold Microphone: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hhhaRZrUyrH1ewWe3vOMjarg05drta0i/view?usp=drivesdk I don't think there's a link to Total Jeopardy though since that one aired on the Boomerang streaming service, but maybe Peralaan would have one.

I knew about Reverend Run before the episode, as I'd heard a few of the more famous Run DMC (the band he's in) songs like "Walk This Way," "It's Tricky" and his Christmas one "Christmas in Hollis" (the last of which has been used in a lot of commercials). Shaggy and Scooby trying to learn from Reverend Run was super cute! :)
