Overall, this was another average episode. I really liked the Tree Monster as a villain! As a whole, they're doing a great job coming up with some very original monsters in this season. However, Joey Chestnut kinda felt like he was just there and didn't have much of a role. He almost felt like a side character to me. Fred and Daphne also seemed to have very few lines, unfortunately. This definitely was not a bad episode, it just wasn't particularly memorable in any way.
Also, did anyone else think Scooby being in a hot dog bun was a little disturbing lol? Scooby's song with lyrics such as "boil me until I burst" was also kinda disturbing haha. On a related note, maybe I'm a monster for doing this, but honestly I like both ketchup and mustard if I eat a hot dog, not just mustard. This ranks towards the bottom, at #24/30. Star-Studded Scoreboard: 1. I Put a Hex on You! 2. The Last Inmate! 3. The Sword, The Fox and the Scooby-Doo! 4. One Minute Mysteries! 5. Dance Matron of Mayhem! 6. I agree that Joey felt like a side character. I actually feel like that helped the episode because he had good synergy. He had a place in the episode and it wasn't "Hey, come look at the celebrity!" This was one of my favorites because it felt like a viable normal episode. It could work in just about any series, especially BCSD and maybe WNSD.

I was thinking it could have worked well in WNSD as well. I agree he had a place in the episode, I just think he maybe could have been a little more prominent without overtaking the gang.

Agreed with the ketchup and mustard on hot dogs.

Yes if felt like Joey Chestnut was just there but overall a good episode and the tree monster was pretty cool. Kind of reminds me of Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Hey y'all! I just found a secret Easter egg in this episode. To those who've not seen this episode yet, there maybe a spoiler ahead. In the part where Mr. Haggarty is shutting down the factory, if you listen closely, when Shaggy and Scooby are saying "Oh, No!", you can hear Shaggy's original voice actor Casey Kasem say "Oh, No!" in Shaggy's Voice. How cool is that?!

Seriously are you mad? This episode was awesome because rather than a celebrity going hey look at me and dominating the episode it was more of an actual Scooby Doo mystery with a unique villain, an intriguing mystery and a whole load of comedy! You know what, this is going number 1 in my list!

That's a fair criticism, but I still think that there should have been a better balance where the guest star could have had more of personality without overtaking the mystery entirely. I think Kristen Schaal's episode was a great example of this.

Err, unsure if we were watching the same episode but I felt she completely dominated the whole mystery in her attempts to be more like a member of the gang, that her voice and personality why it simply ended on top of duff list in mid-table. Would be hilarious if she did come back as the monster in a later episode though.

I'm probably blinded by my enjoyment of Kristen, I felt like she was really entertaining despite not knowing anything about her prior to the episode. And maybe her returning as the monster will be the last episode of the show haha.

Fair enough, really is intriguing seeing such varied opinions of different episodes!

I honestly think this episode was not as bad, I do have a few issues though. One yes I agree with you the Scooby hot dog thing was disturbing, but Joey doesn’t look like he does irl (not trying to sound rude) but another thing is that a tree monster? Just like a similar episode the Fastest Fast Food Fiend, they both had villians completely unrelated to food. But overall it’s like 15th place for me in my ranking

I actually didn't mind the tree monster in this one, just because it was an original villain, but yeah, I do agree that matching the monster with the setting is often a better plot device than just "hey, here's this random monster haunting this random place!"

Although I love the name "The Gnarled One"

I thought this episode was very entertaining and a bit funny in some areas. Plus Joey Chestnut was a good guess star in my opinion and I thought The Gnarled One was a really cool and scary looking villain.

I liked this episode too, though I do wish Joey had a bit more a presence. It felt like he was in this episode much less than most guest stars were in their respective episodes.
