October 2022 Comic Solicitations

7/24/2022

Courtesy of GamesRadar+, the Scooby-Doo comic solicitations for October have been released with some big news. It appears that demand was so high for The Batman and Scooby-Doo Mysteries that they've chosen to reboot the series! Oddly, it has the same title, and they're starting over with #1, but nonetheless, the series will return in October!

What's the point in rebooting it?

I guess it was just rebooted because so many people asked for it to continue (at least according to the solicitation), but it's still odd.

Where can you buy these comics when they are released in October?

I believe you can buy them anywhere comics are sold (so online, comic book shops, grocery stores if any by you happen to sell comics, etc.).

It is really strange they're rebooting this. I can't imagine the demand for this was that high, but who knows.

I think I'm just gonna treat it as a continuing number when I deal with it on my site. It seems insane to go back to number 1.

I was debating how to handle it for the comic page on here too, but right now I just have a section header between it and #12 saying "reboot," and then listing it as #1. I don't know why they'd start back over at #1. That's going to be really confusing.

Still our only source of new Scooby media of 2022…😔

I am honestly shocked we've heard nothing yet. I'm sort of at the point where I don't think Krypto is happening this year anymore. They aren't going to release it in November and December since otherwise it'd be super close to Scoob! Holiday Haunt, and I think we would have heard something by now if they were going to release it in October or before. I was just talking to somebody about this the other day, but I also don't wonder if they're shifting focus away from direct-to-DVD movies and going to focus more on making content for HBO Max (like Scoob! Holiday Haunt). Idk though, these are just my updated thoughts. I would have never thought we'd be five months away from the end of the year and not heard anything about the next DTV.

We haven't even heard anything about a leak or rumor or inside info from any kind of source on an upcoming DTV, aside from the Krypto crossover obviously. This is especially strange, considering A LOT of DTVs in recent years have been more or less revealed in an unauthorized way, all of them lately for a while. Heck, even the apparently true character descriptions in Velma from that site a while ago could count as that, and that one photo of a Guess Who script in Welker's hand long before the show came out too.
However, we haven't heard ANYTHING about a possible next Scooby DTV after the Krypto one. Maybe they've gotten better at letting things slip through? Or they're not putting as much focus on the DTVs anymore, maybe keeping it to 1 movie per year again?
I mean, they are pretty busy at the moment with quite a few new bigger upcoming projects: Velma, Mystery Pups, Scoob 2 + Holiday Haunt, which are maybe spreading their resources too thin. After all, it's likely this will be the first time we could see 2 Scooby shows airing concurrently. And at the same time they're still keeping this Scoob universe going with a prequel and a sequel (the latter will definitely be theatrical), which need a higher budget than anything else in the franchise ever did.
So with all of that in mind they're very likely slowing down the DTV process to be able to produce everything else. I'm sure not to the point they're not making them for a while anymore though, I still expect probably 1 per year.
But it's not like we're gonna be deprived of content soon with Holiday Haunt, Velma, Mystery Pups, Scoob 2, and also that Krypto crossover film that we know we're getting at some point.

On the Scooby&Krypto subject, I still believe it could come out in the autumn if we get a trailer by the end of August. They're probably waiting to release the trailer after DC Super Pets comes out in order to capitalize on it the best they possibly can. At least that's my theory.

The HBO Max argument also seems very valid btw, cuz we're getting Holiday Haunt and Velma on there (I don't remember if they mentioned where Mystery Pups will premiere, but I imagine it's gonna be HBO Max too, since television has become pretty useless for animation, streaming is the way now). Maybe they're gonna start to put out DTV-style Scooby films on there too, who knows.

That's what I find odd as well. We knew about the most recent DTV, Courage, way back in 2019 and there's just been nothing with this. I'm probably one of the rare few, but I still don't quite trust those leaked Velma character descriptions. The site didn't seem reliable to me in the sense that it kept trying to hit us over the head with saying "we got this from a very reliable source" and then never state the source. Just seems odd.

I think them being busy with upcoming projects is probably the most likely explanation. Isn't Scoob 2 and Holiday Haunt the same thing? Despite what that ComicBookMovie website said last June, Tony hasn't said anything about a sequel. This is his exact quote: ""Actually, we are kicking the tyres on a follow-up to Scoob!" he confirmed earlier today. "It hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s something we’re all excited about. The whole creative team that made the first movie is still around and back and working on something new. It was neat to create this Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, and it’s exciting to return to it." Nowhere does he say sequel. I honestly just think the site just assumed it was a sequel and people ran with it, but I'm pretty positive it's the same project.

If they're already making an HBO Max prequel to Scoob this year, I don't think there's any way they won't a sequel as well personally. Scoob 2 can't be Holiday Haunt because that's a prequel, while the idea of a Scoob 2, a follow-up, can only work for a sequel logically. I'm sure as soon as Holiday Haunt is out, development for Scoob 2 will kick into gear. WB doesn't seem to have given up on this HB Cinematic Universe, so it's to be expected imo.

I respectfully disagree with "Scoob 2 can't be Holiday Haunt because that's a prequel, while the idea of a Scoob 2, a follow-up, can only work for a sequel logically." He never says "Scoob 2" anywhere either; I believe that statement I copy/pasted is the only thing Cervone has said on it. He just calls it a "follow-up," which fits Holiday Haunt. That's not to say there won't be a sequel, because I think if this does well, there could be one; I just don't agree that Scoob 2 has been confirmed because Tony hasn't said anything about a project like that. He just said there was a "follow-up" project, which is Holiday Haunt.

Honestly I think they are slowing down this year in general because the only major thing set to come out this year is hoilday haunt while the rest likely won't come out this year I don't think they are stopping the dtv movies the only reason we were probably going to get one this year was because holiday haunt to it's slot kind of like how SCOOB did the same also what about trick or treat Scooby doo which is going to be a dtv movie.

I don't think they are just slowing down the dtv movies this year but Scooby doo content in general and think the merger between warner brothers and discovery has something to do with it and it's not like the krypto crossover has no potential of coming out it's just it might not come out this year. As for HBO MAX most of the major Scooby doo content so far are shows and Holiday haunt is going to have the same budget as Scoob which I don't think is possible if it was dtv.

Oh I completely forgot Trick or Treat will happen! We haven't heard anything about that in a quite a while. It's a DTV movie after all, right? In that case we have next year secured with at least 1 DTV, whether Krypto comes out this year or not.

I do think they're slowing down the 2-per-year DTV process though, there's a lot of Scooby stuff in production right now.

I still stand by the fact that we were only going to get one because of holiday haunt but I don't think theirs any way of knowing until the next dtv comes out

Yeah, I also think the WB/Discovery merger could have something to do with the delay.

@Becker It hasn't been confirmed what type of project Trick or Treat is yet.

Maybe I misremember but didn't someone working on it say it was a DTV? Now whether that's a movie or a special is another thing.

Actually you're right, I think Scoobylover from the ScoobyAddicts forum reached out to somebody who was working on the film and said it was a DTV. My bad, I'd momentarily forgotten about that.

Mystery Pups is coming all the way in 2024 and at this rate Velma seems like it’s too far away. So our lack of media and continued one for months to come is still expected. Honestly very frustrating…

It's definitely strange we'd go from so much content in 2021 to suddenly nothing. I think Becker is correct though that it's because they're preparing for the huge wave of content about to come our way with Holiday Haunt, Velma, Mystery Pups and possibly Trick or Treat.

I agree. I think it's safe to say we'll have a trailer by late this year or early next year.
