There has been quite a few rumors and even a subtle nod by character designer Tracy Mark Lee that instead of The Hex Girls episode, a KISS episode was originally planned in its place. A storyboard animatic just posted by the Behind the Scoobs Instagram account confirms this. The animatic shows KISS and the gang stopping the same crazed roadie (Tiny) in the Hex Girls episode who was possessed by the cursed guitar.
In addition, for those who haven't kept up with that account's posts, they've also revealed some very interesting things about the original concept for SCOOB! The numerous pieces of concept art and storyboard animatics they've posted shows that the film was originally much darker and grittier, and was heavily implied to be written for an adult audience. In addition to Dick Dastardly, the film was originally going to have a mystery involving a ghoul named Dr. Bandersnatch, a mad doctor who roamed an abandoned asylum as a zombie (see design in header image above). Based on what has been posted by the account, the film would have had a lot more fight scenes, one even involving blood. Perhaps the biggest hint to the film's PG-13 rating was that the culprit, who would have been Meryl Streep, calls the gang "dumbasses" after being unmasked, and references "the munchies." Perhaps the film's biggest difference is that it went much deeper into Hanna-Barbera lore. In addition to Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Captain Caveman and Dee Dee, the film was originally set to feature Penelope Pitstop, Jabberjaw, Atom Ant and Grape Ape. Captain Caveman was also given a much bigger role. The Hanna-Barbera stuff was a lot less surface-level as well, involving extended sequences paying homage to classic Hanna-Barbera shows (a long Wacky Races sequence was posted by Behind the Scoobs). It's been interesting to watch the animatics from the previous version of the film, as I feel it's given more insight into how the writers got to the finished product of SCOOB! One of the most common complaints about the film is the lack of mystery, but these animatics confirm there was originally a mystery within the film's plot that was removed (presumably due to being not kid-friendly). It appears the film's original version also had its plot much more heavily based on Greek mythology, which you can see the slight remnants of with the Cerberus stuff in the final version. It seems like many of the ideas from the original film were kept, but aspects that wouldn't have been appropriate for kids were removed, and parts that might be a bit too complex (such as the deep cut Hanna-Barbera stuff and the Greek mythology) were also toned down to make it more palatable for a younger audience. I doubt this will be the last SCOOB! animatic that we see, since the account seems to be posting a couple per week, but I just wanted to share my thoughts on what we'd gotten so far.

I would have preferred the big SCOOB cinematic version, instead of the simplistic Scooby gang origin story. But it is what it is.

I would have too, but I also don't necessarily mind what we got. I know it wasn't necessarily popular among everyone, but I really enjoyed the final version of SCOOB!.

First the live action movie and now SCOOB. I wish we could get a proper adult-appropriate Scooby movie without it being compromised and reworked before release.

I would be okay with that only if it wasn't a repeat of something like Velma where the raunchiness was prioritized over the actual mystery/characterizations.

While I didn't dislike Scoob, I really wish we would've had this version of the film, sounds much better

Apparently, despite me saying "I doubt this will be the last SCOOB! animatic that we see," it actually may be the last animatic that we ever see. Behind the Scoobs just announced they are taking a break from their account, because some unnamed Scooby YouTubers were threatening to report them to WB's legal team. It seems like this may mean they are shutting down the account fully, even though they didn't say that. It's a bummer to see this account go, as they've shared a lot of cool info in the past few weeks. Here's the person who runs the account's goodbye message: https://www.instagram.com/p/C2Q49vJpzT0/

The fact that there are not a lot of Scooby YouTubers around... even less when we're talking of people with privileged contacts and information that would feel threatened by the BehindTheScoobs account... it makes me think... if you know you know...

What if one of the Scooby YouTubers pitched an 80s workout video for Daphne? 1/19/2024 08:59:01 am
Yeah, I have a guess as to who it is too, unfortunately. (I won't say who it is though, as I don't know for sure). Regardless, it's horrible that somebody would do that to them! It takes unimaginable levels of selfishness to threaten to get somebody in legal trouble just so they can be the first ones to post info. I hope the person who runs the account is doing okay. <3

I don’t know enough about Scooby Youtube to know who it is, but I agree this is completely selfish and putting self interest ahead of the interest of the franchise they have accounts about

Truly a shame. Hopefully it will be back at some point, but it seems we can’t ever have nice things so I doubt it

As a shame as that is, it does seem to confirm to me anyway that its someone currently working at Warner Bros who is leaking this stuff. Given otherwise there's no need to care about a threat of contacting WB's legal department given the account is anonymous, yet if you worked there even a vague threat of that would make you go cautious. So there's that at least.

Not sure that's necessarily the case, I believe if required by copyright law, Instagram is able to give out IP address information to the government so they could track down who you were. I have no idea how easily they'd be able to find you based on that, but it's very possible the person running the account wasn't sure of the legality of what they were posting and/or just didn't want the headache of being bullied.

Man the originally SCOOB movie sounds like it would have been incredible. Too bad they had to make it more kid appropriate for the younger audiences.

Yeah, I also think the movie would have been amazing! I'm betting Dr. Bandersnatch was inspired by the ghost of Dr. Coffin.
