"Scooby in Wonderland" and "Scooby's Swiss Miss" from The Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Hour featured character designs by Jack Kirby, who was the man that created several popular Marvel Comics superheroes, including Captain America, The Hulk, and the X-Men.
Decades later, a character from What's New Scooby-Doo? would be named as a reference to another character created by Jack Kirby in 1978. Dr. Armand Zola from "Uncle Scooby and Antarctica" was named to reference Arnim Zola, a Marvel villain created by Kirby, who transferred his mind into a robot body to preserve his consciousness. Arnim Zola has appeared in both the 2011 Captain America film and the sequel.

I don't think I've ever sat down and watched more than one Scrappy short. The only one I've ever watched was Snow Job's Too Small, which I will be forever grateful for lmao.

I’ve seen them all, there are a couple that are decent (A Fit Night Out for Bats, Moonlight Madness, Scooby-Doo 2000 and even Snow Job Too Small other than the annoying little kid).

Agreed lol. I hadn't caught the Arnim Zola reference until I researched it tbh.

For those not familiar, Jack "The King" Kirby was largely responsible for the look and feel of what is commonly referred to as "The Marvel Way" of comics art. He took a medium that was made up largely of stilted, cartoony art and remade it into an action driven, dynamic art form.

I've only watched the Marvel movies and not read the comics, so I had no idea Jack had such a huge influence on the franchise! I read your article as well as the CNN article linked within it, and it was really interesting to read more about his life. Thanks so much for sharing this, this is so cool!

It's interesting to me that as I grow older I find I'm almost as fascinated by the creatives behind the things I love as i am by the things themselves. 8/26/2023 09:10:53 am
It is amazing to think about how these universes that all these people created have stood the test of time like this, and are still going strong today. I bet Hanna and Barbera would have never expected that a cartoon they created in 1969 would be so popular that they would still be making shows and films over 50 years later.
