The mirror doppelgänger scene that is seen in a number of Scooby-Doo episodes, including "Never Ape an Ape Man," "Mystery in Persia" and "A Scooby-Doo Valentine," is actually a trope that was made famous by a 1933 spy thriller. The film is a Marx Brothers' spy film, titled Duck Soup, which centers around spies trying to overthrow a newly appointed president of a country. You can watch the mirror scene that inspired the trope above.

I just found a fun fanmade crossover animation of Scooby Doo and FNAF. It is an amazing short film, and I figured I'd share it with everyone here.

A friend just sent me this the other day. It's crazy that this was mostly made with AI voices (also note the unfortunate crediting AI Daphne's voice to "Greg" DeLisle).

I'd be impressed if any Greg was able to do Daphne's voice lol

This is one of the most uncanny things I've seen in a while. Cool concept and good stop motion animation. Gotta say that AI Frank Welker Fred sounds way too good and real.

Agreed, it really surprised me how close the AI voices sound to their real-life counterparts.

That scares me tbh. What will the future of voice acting look like in Scooby Doo? Frank can't voice forever of course, but I'm scared that they will try AI or something. It would be tough to get used to a new voice, but I would MUCH rather have someone else's take on Fred and Scooby than AI, but I wouldn't put it past WB to get rid of the personal touch of it to save money. I honestly am not sure if I would be able to watch it if AI were used for voice acting 8/14/2023 04:39:08 pm
It scares me too. I completely agree AI removes the personal touch of it, and I would feel weird watching as well if Frank's replacement was an AI. In a general sense, while it is cool all of the developments that are being made with AI, I wish we'd slow down a little to think about the ethics of it and what we'd be losing if we replaced humans with AI. Arguably, there are certain environments where we would be losing a personal touch if we replaced humans with AI (voice acting being one of those), and some companies aren't thinking it through as well as they should IMO.

Well here is the community post that explains the usage of A.I. and say that they are working on a re dub oof the short.

I personally doubt WB or any big studio would revert to AI voices instead of using voice actors. I imagine the backlash alone would result in boycotting (and maybe some lawsuits depending on the situation) if they even tried it. 8/14/2023 07:49:46 pm
I would certainly hope not, I definitely think there would be a lot of uproar from the fandom if they replaced Frank or anybody else with AI, so hopefully that would be enough from deterring them. Imagine if the next series was "Scooby-Doo, and AI Too!" lol.

@Becker- After seeing the behavior of a lot of these studios during the strikes, I wouldn’t put it past them to screw over thousands of actors to make an extra buck, including with AI

@Matt, and animated with AI too, like that much maligned Secret Invasion intro!
Matt
8/17/2023 12:55:20 am
I'll tell you what though. Even a Secret Invasion level disaster AI intro would be better than the Guess Who intro we did get last time lol

Not if we get the same guy to strain on the mic during it

True, the playground taunt would be even more infuriating if it was about AI lol 8/17/2023 04:35:33 pm
I'm sure they would have considered making the Guess Who intro with AI if it had been possible when the series was made, it would have fit perfectly with the series' blandness lol.

That's a good point, are we sure Guess Who wasn't already AI as a series? It kinda feels like it lol

The episodes sure do feel written with ChatGPT before it existed based on how lifeless they are. 8/18/2023 11:12:48 am
Perhaps Guess Who was a secret prototype intended to test out AI before it was revealed to the rest of the world lol.

Everything makes much more sense now on why Guess Who was the way it was

I agree that the AI concept would be a bit sad if it were to take over. I would just hope that WB would try to at least get someone close to sounding good for any character replacements in the future. They were lucky things went over so well with Shaggy, I know a lot of people weren’t please when Kate Micucci came into the picture after Mindy Cohn was so amazing.

Completely agreed, although I think some of the backlash in Mindy's case was that they basically forced her out. Originally, Kate Micucci was supposedly just coming in for Be Cool and Mindy would still do the DTV films, but they changed their minds later and fully switched over to Kate.

Honestly the hate that the dude who made the springtrap video is so extreme and isn't warranted in the slightest, sure he used AI but he's redubbing after realising his mistake and I think it takes great time and effort to make an animation such as that (I'd know, I used to do brickfilms) so I applaud him, though I do understand actors' situation with AI, but if you're going to go after anyone, go after the studios who'll control what's to come with AI in the future, not some fan who was just going for a hearty fanmade project and screwed up.

I haven't seen any reactions to the video beyond on this comment section, so I'm not sure what hate he's receiving, but I assume it's because he used AI. I wouldn't want any studios to be using AI to make Scooby, but given it's a fan-made project, I don't think a ton of harm was done in what he did, unless there's some reason he's receiving hate than I'm not aware of.

Yeah I was thinking that when I first heard of the reactions to this vid, Grey tweeted about it quite angrily when it's basically a normal use of AI, it's not like he was even trying to profit of the video anyway 8/15/2023 02:00:14 pm
In Grey's defense, he did credit her as "Greg" DeLisle so I can understand why she would be mad lol.

Coconauts through Duck soup are all rather anarchic and more set ups than plots, A night at the opera onwards recast them as more helpful characters and try to keep their antics against the bad guys with a few exceptions. 8/17/2023 09:09:30 pm
Good to know, I had considered checking out Duck Soup after writing this fun fact, so I'll have to look around to see if I can find a way to watch those others as well!
