In a recent interview with Wizards of Waverly Pod, Hayley Kiyoko shared several details about her role playing Velma in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Curse of the Lake Monster. Playing Velma was apparently Hayley's first time ever acting. After she finished with the role, she worried that she wouldn't be able to get other roles due to executives pigeon-holing her for the Velma-like haircut she had at the time. Hayley also mentioned that after playing Velma, she did not want to play any more roles as a high school student. However, she would go on to play roles as a high school student in Wizards of Waverly Place and the Disney Channel Original Movie Lemonade Mouth. You can check out the full interview here (although what I shared above were the only parts specifically related to her role as Velma).

Wow the hits just keeping on coming. Now Disney plus and Hulu are removing lots of content from their sites just like HBO Max this is getting truly sad.

Wow, it's surprising that Disney+ is removing their own original series. I was also unaware that Disney+ and Hulu are merging, but that's interesting to hear.

This is interesting. When I watched both movies, I thought Hayley was a great actor. But imo, both movies were not good. They were poorly directed, but they had good actors.

My opinion is a bit more split about these movies. I really liked the first one, and I would actually put it in my top 20 movies. I was not as much of a fan of the second film, and it's among my top 10 least favorite films of the franchise. The plot felt a bit less natural, and I didn't like how they tried to copy SDMI by making the romance stuff so front and center. This aired at the same time SDMI was airing (a new episode actually aired the same week as this film, and I remember watching them both on Cartoon Network), so it felt a bit repetitive, especially with the Shaggy and Velma romance.

I don't like CotLM, but I think it would be vastly improved if the opening didn't telegraph the baddie and if they pulled the musical sequence. 5/23/2023 01:11:02 pm
I agree that the musical sequence and rap at the end is cringey. I assume you're talking about the Scarecrow at the beginning, and I admittedly didn't mind that part. I found it to be a fun reference. 5/24/2023 01:12:30 am
No, I mean the part where they gang stands atound the villian and they all say "It was YOU!?" and they make it obvious who the baddie is.

Ah, I forgot about that scene, and yeah, that was pretty annoying.
