Several episodes that have not been released in the United States on DVD have been released in other countries.
"Wednesday Is Missing, the only episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies still unreleased in the US, has been released on the Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family VHS in Australia by Worldvision, as well as on the Scooby-Doo and the Three Stooges & Scooby-Doo and the Addams Family VHS in the UK by Lollipop. The Scooby-Doo and the Werewolves DVD was released only in Europe, and included "Where's the Werewolf?" from The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour. It's unknown why this was the only villain compilation DVD never released in the US, when all the others were (i.e. Scooby-Doo and the Pirates, Scooby-Doo and the Ghosts, Scooby-Doo and the Skeletons, etc.). "Scoobygeist," "The Quagmire Quake Caper," "Scooby the Barbarian" and "No Sharking Zone" from The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show were released on 2019's Scooby-Doo: 50 Cartoon Collection DVD in the UK exclusively, replacing "The Chiller Diller Movie Thriller" on the US version.

The Wednesday one makes sense as I know the UK has a thing where if the parties cannot come to an agreement there's a minimum rights payout for fees they can just do to make it square (Wish we had that here) but the others are frustrating.

It's one of the good things about the UK and Blu Rays...kinda being regionless, there are shows that got butchered due to music rights in America (Northern Exposure, WKRP) and sometimes you can get the UK release for a more "complete experience" because you can usually play UK Blu Rays on an American player despite the different regions, like I have the UK Andromeda series release because that was oop here for a while. and my parent ended up with the UK Star Trek Enterprise, but I think that was just cheaper at the time... 2/15/2021 04:37:16 pm
Do you know if it's the same for UK DVDs? Do they play on all US DVD players? If so, I might have to buy the two above UK DVDs if so someday haha.

Unfortunately, DVDS are regionlocked, if you want to play those from another region you need a regionless DVD player. 2/15/2021 05:03:03 pm
That's not something I have at the moment, so guess I'll be waiting to pick those up then. Thanks for the info.

I wish we had those New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show episodes on DVD (more specifically Scooby the Barbarian and especially Scoobygeist) but if I had to choose I'm glad we got Chiller Diller Movie Thriller new to DVD instead

Yeah of course haha. I would usually make another joke about Hassle in the Castle taking up an unreleased episode's spot yet again, but I can't cry too much this time as that is without a doubt a vital and an all-time iconic episode in Scooby history, so I'll just say they should've been there instead of Ransom of Scooby Chief! What a waste of a spot 2/16/2021 09:35:36 am
Absolutely agree. That's one of the most hated Scooby episodes ever so I have no idea why that was on there.

The only thing I can think of is that it represented the next era of Scooby and Scrappy Doo in Scooby Doo history on the dvd collection while The Scarab Lives and Happy Birthday Scooby Doo represented their respective eras of Scooby and Scrappy Doo, both much more appropriate selections. With that being said, I disagree with using that line of thought and think that the unreleased (and better!) episodes should get in but it is what it is 2/16/2021 06:30:46 pm
That reasoning makes sense I suppose, but I still would have preferred unreleased episodes too haha.

Scooby-Doo and the Werewolves is actively listed at the UK Amazon site. If you want to drop 43 or more pounds (about $60 US) for that one episode. A bit steep for my wallet but it's on my "to find" list now...

$60 for that DVD? Wow! It must be kind of rare. I think I'll hold off buying it since it's not worth purchasing a 7-minute short of 60 dollars haha.

I'll be keeping my eye out for it on E-bay, hopefully at a less ridiculous price. Every once in a while I find a few extra bucks to fill in an expensive hole in my collection, but $60 to fill in a tiny void in the collection is a bit much. Hopefully it'll show up somewhere else for a more reasonable price. 2/16/2021 03:39:14 pm
I'd be more willing to buy the 50 Cartoon Collection, but yeah, it's still a pretty steep price. Surprising the Werewolves one is so hard to find given it's a pretty recent release. Leave a Reply. |
