Hi everyone!
Today our fan spotlight is Scoobnick. I’ve been participating with Scoobnick in a Scooby-Doo roleplay game on the ScoobyAddicts forum now for several years, playing as Scooby and Shaggy as well as the girl ghouls from Ghoul School. I’ll admit, I had never done a roleplay before doing this one, but it’s actually been super fun and I’m so happy to be a part of it. Check out Scoobnick’s profile below: 1. What is your name? Scoobnick 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? I first caught Scooby when I was little when Scooby Doo Where Are You, and other Scooby shows would air. I had a Scooby Doo record (the title of which escapes me) that involved Scooby and the gang solving a mystery at the North Pole. Over the years I've watched just about every Scooby episode (which is over 400 at this point) and watched just about every Scooby movie. Have a special fondness for Boo Brothers. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? My favorite Scooby film is Zombie island, hands down. It revived Scooby as a going concern, and still holds up very well nearly 20 years later. I have mixed feelings about the sequel, if it’s going to be like how they treated 13th Ghost, I'm probably going to ignore it, canon-wise. As for episode, that's a hard one. I'll have to go with the Headless Specter from Where Are You. Fun villain, catchy chase song, imo one of the best episodes of early Scooby. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I am running the Scooby Doo roleplay that has been running on ScoobyAddicts since 2013 (6 YEARS now). It’s been a lot of fun, involving posters like Doo, ShaphneSince2002 and Russm. The roleplay reached its 100th page and involves characters from across the Scooby canon, along with original characters like Marybelle, Missy and Creola. The gang is trying to solve a haunted fort case in Vicksburg, Mississippi. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? The best series or era of Scooby is rather hard to pin down, because there’s so many iterations of Scooby to choose from. The easy answer to make is Where are You, because it set the template for all other series to follow and What’s New? was basically a modernized Where are You? in modern series. I liked Mystery Inc’s series long plot and I liked the comedy of Be Cool, even if the characters looked like they stepped off the set of Family Guy. If forced to choose, I'd actually go with Be Cool. 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? The Scooby film I'd do a sequel to, is Boo Brothers. The haunted house treasure hunt was one of the original films strong points, and Scrappy was at his best in the film. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I would give Scooby a long term stable girlfriend, because that’s an element that imo has been overlooked throughout the shows history. Yes Scooby's had crushes here and there over the past 50 years, From Amber in Alien Invaders, to Sandy Duncan in The New Scooby-Doo Movies to Scooby Dee in Chiller Diller Movie Thriller, but nothing that lasted more than one episode or movie. Failing that, I would add Marcie as team member #6, that was an opportunity that Mystery Inc missed that could provide a lot of interesting dynamics. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby, is the easy and obvious answer. He's the mascot and glue that keeps the gang together, even if he and Shaggy have to be bribed every 5 seconds to look into spooky rooms with Scooby Snacks. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Favorite villain would have to be the Phantom/Bluestone the Great for the way that he explained how he had done his illusions and tricks after he was unmasked. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? Best recurring non gang character is rather hard to say. If you mean characters that have shown up in more than one series, then I'd have to go with the Hex Girls as a group. Marcie is great too but as to date she’s only appeared in Mystery Inc. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it I have a number of Scooby Doo video games as well as Scooby Doo Monopoly. There hasn’t been too many Scooby tie-in games in recent years. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? Scooby has lasted as long as it has because it appeals to both kids and adults, and because it set a template that has been copied by many many other shows, both after it came out and now. It’s been parodied in films like Wayne’s World, and referenced in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The 'meddling kids" setup has become iconic, and given that we have a new show coming out soon, I see no reason to think Scooby won’t be around in one form or another 50 years from now. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I majored in history in college and am a huge history and trivia buff. I can name all the presidents in order, for instance, and tell you who was president when a given purchase (like Louisiana or Alaska) was made. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! I joined Scooby Addicts in June of 2011, this June marked 8 years at SA. I have nearly 3500 posts as of typing this, 3rd behind Doo and ScoobyAddict in post tally. Most of my posts concern the roleplay and its discussion, and whenever the roleplay does wrap up, I likely will start a new one. CaptainBuck had an idea of Scooby and the gang solving a case at Collinwood (Dark Shadows) that I think would make an excellent roleplay. Thank you Scoobnick for your detailed responses! Check back tomorrow to meet another Scooby fan with another brand new fan profile post!

Scoobnick, your history background is interesting. Do people ever quiz you on the order of the Presidents?

Yes I often get quizzed on the presidents. The presidents between Jackson and Lincoln, and from Lincoln to Teddy Roosevelt are obscure to most people
