Cut Scene from The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair Resurfaces Online After Decades

Decades ago, WB cut an approximately minute long scene from “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair” (The New Scooby-Doo Movies) featuring Batman and the gang right before they enter the toy factory at the end of the episode. After 34 years of the scene being lost, not even included on the DVD or digital releases, the scene was discovered on a VHS tape recording that a fan had of the episode from 1986, the last time this scene was ever aired on TV. Check it out above!

I had previously heard rumors about this scene and thought it was fake! So cool to know that it's real though!

Not to distract from this too much but I have a friend who's FB friends with Tom Minton and he told me something interesting. The reason why Joe Barbera was credited on Homeward Hound was because the episode was a reworked version of a unmade Scooby-Doo movie that Joe and Iwao Takamoto had worked on. Joe had came up with the story and Iwao had storyboarded a good portion of it.

Wow! That could have been a really interesting idea for a film. Must have been a decently old storyboard too if Joe and Iwao worked on it together. That makes it even cooler though that they still were able to make the storyboard into its own episode even though HB wasn't around anymore at the time of the episode's release.

Speaking of unmade movies, did you see that website with all the concept art for SCOOB?

I did see that! It looked super cool! I would have posted it on the blog, but my computer broke down (worst time for that to happen, for the record. Thoroughly don't recommend haha) and is being repaired, so I've been trying to keep the posting to a minimum since it's near impossible to try to make posts on Weebly's mobile app. I made this one on the app yesterday since it was important, and I got super lucky in that the next two weeks of fun facts and polls were already drafted up and ready to post.

This is why I'm so annoyed with the New Scooby Doo Movies, so much lost content in them. Some episodes barely make sense anymore whilst others make references to things that no longer happen in them.

I would respectfully disagree with that. I don't think there's been so much content lost that you can't make sense of anything. This was only a 45 second clip and while it explained about the toy factory, it was nothing we couldn't figure out ourselves from context clues. I do plan to rewatch the episode with this scene soon just to see how it pieces together. But yeah, the references to things that no longer happen are a problem if scenes were actually cut out of them, which I haven't seen any evidence of yet (the scenes in question could have just been from an early draft that were pulled last minute, and we don't need to see it on screen for it to make sense). This missing scene surfacing does make me wonder if th is a scenes are still out there missing though.

Unsure on that. I know the shark island episode seems to have a whole scene of Shaggy and Scooby in the kitchen and the dumbwaiter previously missing. I understand what you are saying though, could just be due to errors in editing. I'm sure there is a scene missing in the Sandy Duncan episode, why else is that gorilla in the opening credits? Still as you say we can't be sure.

I'm always a little more on the cautious side when it comes to rumors like these, but this scene surfacing definitely calls a lot into question. I don't remember that dumbwaiter thing being missing. Or the kitchen scene? Where in the episode was that?

I was honestly unclear if that ape was supposed to be King Kong, and ironically I just wrote a little tangent about that for the monthly editorial article that will be posted on the blog in June. Good to know someone else thinks he's King Kong too!

28:37 - Shaggy in the kitchen refers to "That little elevator we rode in last night" when there was no prior clip of this from what I remember in the episode, sure there was more though.
As for King Kong, again he was mentioned during the episode about the gang having to run away from him but didn't actually appear.

Yep, I remembered King Kong but had forgotten about the "little elevator" scene.

Wow, that's super cool! It's amazing that some pieces of lost media can still be found after all this time.

BTW, this is a completely unrelated thing, but I don't know where else to post this. In case you're curious about the just-premiered HBO Max, I asked a friend about the animated content, particularly Scooby. Apparently, there's a lot of good animation content in general, but the Scooby stuff is oddly lacking:

"No recent Scooby ... except the two live-action movies. Six Scoobies total: Where Are You, Scooby Doo Show, Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo Show, New Scooby And Scrappy Doo Show, *All* New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show (they have Scrappy covered), and Scooby, Scrappy and Yabba Doo (his Western cousin)."

Notably missing are "New SD Movies" (probably due to all those rights issues) and anything post-1984. Of course no "Guess Who" either. One would think with the premiere of "Scoob!" earlier this month, they would want to get more of his content on their brand-new service, but I guess not.

Of course, Boomerang still has a ton of Scooby stuff (from what I understand). I would think that Boomerang (and DC Universe) should get folded into HBO Max at some point, since so much of their content is repeated. But maybe Warner Bros. thinks it's more profitable to keep them running separately. *shrug*

Anyway, there may be a lot of other good reasons to get HBO Max, but if you're specifically looking for a huge Scooby library, that's not the place to go.

Again, sorry for posting this on an unrelated thread, but I didn't know where else to post it, and I thought you'd like to know.

Sorry your computer crashed! I had the same thing happen back in March. Hope things are back up and running for you soon!

By *All* New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show, do you mean The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries?
Honestly didn't expect for half of the Scooby content on HBO Max (at the moment) to include Scrappy. Usually WB have been wary of Scrappy stuff. Is this maybe a turning point? Or is this just an exception and they'll keep shying away from the character?
Also, just because they don't have the majority of the Scooby Doo productions on HBO Max right now doesn't mean they can't add more as time goes by, cuz I'm sure that's definitely what's happening. It happens all the time with any franchise on streaming services.

I was going to ask that as well, because those two are the same series. It is odd they put Scrappy on there. I wonder why!

Becker: I don't have HBO Max myself yet, so I got this information from a friend. I also thoughy that by "All New Scrappy," he meant "New SD Mysteries," although he mentions Yabba-Doo as though it were the last thing to appear chronology-wise, so that would actually place the most recent Scooby animated thing at 1982. Perhaps the four names he mentions just refer to the first four Scrappy seasons, as there was a bit of retooling each time.

(Of course, the most recent Scooby things there overall are the two theatrical live-action movies.)

I'll probably get a free trial of HBO Max at some point, and then I'll have more information. In the meantime, if anyone else has it, please let us know what you can find! And, Becker, I certainly hope you're right about more content being added eventually!

Maybe they meant the Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Show instead of the *All New*? I'm not sure though, as I don't have HBO Max.

Yeah, "Richie Rich" seems likely. The tricky thing about the "Scrappy" seasons of the '80s is that there didn't seem to be a lot of clear, consistent naming. They were bundled together with other shows when they originally aired, then given the generic "Scrappy" intro when they went into syndicated reruns, and now it sounds like they might be relabeling them again based on the individual segments. It's all kind of confusing, really. :)

It is weird how they changed the title for syndication, and then changed it back again for when they put the DVD out in 2008. The generic Scrappy intro was actually only used in syndication. They just slapped on the first season's intro to all the seasons, hence why Daphne, Velma and Fred still appear at the end. There is an actual intro for each of the individual shows (i.e. Richie Rich, Puppy Hour, etc.) as you'll see in my editorial post I just posted today.

No worries about posting it on an unrelated thread! I appreciate you sharing the info! It's disappointing to hear that there's not much Scooby on there, but I guess we should be thankful whenever Scooby stuff is posted anywhere! I wonder if Boomerang and HBO Max will combine at some point, or if it will become the new home for Guess Who. I guess only time will tell!

And thanks for the well wishes with my computer! I hope to have it back soon too, but due to worries about infection they've had to send it off to a service facility in another state, so I'm not sure when I'll be seeing it back. Hopefully, it will be soon!

In the Civic Mindedness events, Olan Soule's Batman gives Adam West's Batman a run for his money.

He's so earnest you can almost hear the starch in his shorts.
