You may have heard the sad news earlier in the week that Andre Braugher passed away. Tony Cervone posted a commemoration of Andre on his Instagram page, revealing that Andre voiced Chef Dave in the Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Andre passed away at 61 due to lung cancer. Tony shared the following message about Andre on Instagram:
Andre Braugher played our beloved Chef Dave in “SCOOB Holiday Haunt”. When we met he asked us to tell him a little bit about our movie and ourselves. After ten minutes he said, “I’ve always had a soft spot for Scooby-Doo, I’m in.” We were so happy he was. He was an extremely talented, kind, funny gentleman who performed his role as a cartoon chef with the same dignity he would Shakespeare. We were lucky to spend time with him. I am truly sorry his work went the way of a tax write off. Scoob! director Michael Kurinsky also made a post on his Instagram in remembrance of Andre. I had the good fortune to be able to work with the great Andre Brauer on SCOOB Holiday Haunt. He masterfully played the character of Chef Dave, taking the role as serious as if we were doing Shakespeare. He will be missed. Tony and Michael also shared a few images of Andre's character from the movie. RIP to Andre!

Idon’t think Tony directed Holiday Haunt it was Bill Haller and Michael Kurinsky but Michael Kurinsky did post on Instagram about Andres character too https://www.instagram.com/p/C02HLjSvH-d/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Thank you so much for correcting that silly typo on my part, and for the extra information! I added it to the post :)

Damn, so that's why the movie looks good. Tony Cerv-hack didn't direct it.

Does your dislike of Tony Cervone come from his work on SDMI, out of curiosity? I've liked what he's been involved in so far, but I'd be curious to hear your opinion as to why you haven't liked his work.

My main dislike is SCOOB. Dude was in charge of making the first animated Scooby-Doo film for theatres and it's a Hanna-Barbera clusterf* that barely has anything to do with Scooby-Doo. There may have been a bit of studio meddling there... telling him to start off the HB universe... but there are ways to make that without making it feel like anything else but a Scooby-Doo movie. 12/15/2023 09:51:15 pm
The Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe was definitely an idea WB came up with before Tony was involved with the project. JCB (from Be Cool) was originally supposed to help write the movie before Tony came on, and the Cinematic Universe stuff was a part of the script back then too. In my understanding, Tony came after JCB was no longer involved with the project.

The Hanna-Barbera Universe stuff wasn't the only thing I disliked from SCOOB.

Cervone was still the producer of Holiday Haunt and wrote the screenplay, so he was still heavily involved

And I just kinda assume that Scoob is a product of what was asked for by WB: a bunch of Hanna Barbera characters with something closer to a Disney movie plot structure than a typical Scooby Doo plot structure. I would’ve also rather had the Scooby Doo plot structure personally but I don’t agree with a lot of what you said 12/16/2023 11:02:57 am
I also was expecting the typical Scooby-Doo plot structure, but I liked this quite a bit for what it was. Overall, the movie wasn't cringey to me with the exception of the part of the opening where Shaggy's listening to lonely songs (which goes into the "show, don't tell" thing you were mentioning; I feel the scene could have been written better where it wasn't so in-your-face, but it's a minor complaint) I particularly enjoyed the arc of Shaggy and Scooby learning to face their fears, and the other stuff didn't bother me, but I respect your opinion. I totally get why someone wouldn't like this film, because it feels much more of a HB film than a Scooby film imo, and doesn't follow the traditional Scooby formula.

I feel like another thing that didn't help me like Shaggy at all was Will Forte's acting. Perhaps if it was Matthew Lillard I could've taken it a little bit more lightly (Then again, maybe not, since Lillard's Shaggy hasn't sounded right to me for a while now). 12/16/2023 09:57:55 pm
Yeah, Casey is easily the best Shaggy voice, no competition at all there. I didn't mind Will Forte's Shaggy, I liked his voice better than Nick Palatas and Scott Menville, but Innes, West and Lillard's Shaggy voices are all much better than Forte's for me.

Horrible news, lung cancer has really hit the Scooby Doo family hard this week

I was thinking that too! I can't think of any lung cancer stories in recent memory, so it's a really weird coincidence it happened to two people involved with Scooby in one week. I really hope we'll be able to see his character in the film someday!
