Thanks so much to Jacob Staggs for suggesting this week's poll! It was a very close race between Witch's Ghost and "A Night of Fright Is No Delight," the latter of which actually being in the lead for the entire week. At the very last minute yesterday evening, Witch's Ghost got two additional votes that allowed it to overtake "A Night of Fright Is No Delight." That means Witch's Ghost wins the title of best ghost episode/film! Here are the full results:
Witch's Ghost - 17 A Night of Fright Is No Delight - 16 Boo Brothers - 11 Cyber Chase - 8 Camp Scare - 4 I Put a Hex on You! - 3

I really like this episode! I also really like the mystery of Daphne's aunt turning into a cat creature at night. I thought the cat creature was a great villain, and I agree that elevator scene was pretty creepy! One of my favorites of season 3 of The Scooby-Doo Show.

Thanks for using my suggestion. Here's my rankings. I haven't seen Go East Young Pardner or Worst in Show.

You consistently have some of the hottest takes I've ever seen from a Scooby fan, but I commend you for sticking to your guns and always being honest about your opinions. Ransom of Scooby Chief is one of the most hated HB era Scooby episodes, so as much as probably nobody will agree with you on your #1 at all, I respect your different perspective on it.

Pretty obvious choice here: Make a Beeline Away from That Feline. Great episode in an underrated season!

Yeah, that's my choice as well. A lot of these episodes here are not great, so this was a pretty easy choice.

Fun Fact: Did you guys know that there was another title for the Make A Beeline episode: Who Was That Cat Creature I Saw You With Last Night?

I remember the title super well! When I was a kid, my parents recorded VHS tapes of Scooby episodes for me when they aired on the USA Network. The version of "Make a Beeline Away from That Feline" on the tape they recorded had the "Who Was That Cat Creature I Saw You With Last Night?" title card on it. I actually was unaware of the episode also being called "Make a Beeline Away from That Feline" until the Where Are You season 3 DVD came out in 2007!

9. Go East Young Pardner - I've honestly only seen this once or twice and remembered barely anything about it, so I rewatched the episode this morning. I thought "Ransom of Scooby Chief" was going to be last, but this is even worse. I never thought I'd be defending "Ransom of Scooby Chief," but at least that has a coherent plot (even if it's not a good one), as opposed to the random chaos here. Throughout the episode, we see Yabba ride a printer like a horse, the guys riding a horse on top of vehicles, and a grocery store that has a "Wild West Department" (as all grocery stores naturally do lol). We also learn that Yabba keeps a skunk under his hat at all times, which he throws into an elevator at one point so that it will clear out (I'd think there'd be a number of logistical problems with keeping a skunk under your hat, but apparently not lol). My biggest issue with the episode is the really weird stereotypes throughout the whole episode. For some reason, all the New Yorkers here are characterized as angry jerks. This is perhaps best represented by the fact that there's a New York sheriff who's training Scrappy, Yabba and Dusty, and literally the first thing he says to them is calling them "a bunch of hicks," despite that they'd never spoken before. There's also a scene where there are a bunch of New Yorkers in an elevator, and for no apparent reason, all of them are literally snarling lol. There's just a weird stereotype throughout the whole episode where New Yorkers seem to consider everyone from the West as inferior riffraff. The bizarre stereotypes combined with the plot just being a bunch of random chaos makes this episode really unenjoyable, rant over lol.

9. Lol, I guess the writing of this one just felt especially lousy, even for a Scrappy short. Although I didn't think the plot of "Ransom of Scooby Chief" was well executed, at least I can understand what the writers were trying to do there, even if I didn't like it. With "Go East Young Pardner," the whole thing just felt like a completely pointless waste of time. They couldn't even be bothered to stick with the plot of them being in New York for training for more than a minute of the episode.

9. See, I also find it to be a waste of time, I just find Ransom of Scooby Chief to be an even longer waste of time

I don’t think I’ve seen Chefs of Steel, but Jacob’s comment above makes me kinda glad for that. As for the rest of the poll… uh yeah, not the greatest selection here imo. It’s not as bad as the 2020s poll a couple of weeks ago lol, but it’s rough

I don't remember a ton about "Chefs of Steel" either as I think I've seen it once or twice. I think the racist stuff that Jacob was mentioning is that the evil chef's character is heavily based off of bad stereotypes about Japanese people. I might be misremembering though as it's been a while since I've watched it.

1. If I could choose to change the season of any episode in the franchise, it’d probably be this one. If this episode had the atmosphere of a season 2 episode, as well as the change of focus even more on the mystery from the running around of season 3, it would be phenomenal. I think this episode in particular would really work well with those factors 10/22/2023 06:25:39 pm
Yeah, same for me. I was actually thinking about this since I have been doing a rewatch of the series these past few weeks, but I think "The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face," "Creepy Creature of Vulture's Claw," and "Scooby's Chinese Fortune Kooky Caper" also would have been amazing if they could have been season 2 episodes. All of those episodes (especially the latter two) already have strong atmospheres and I think they could be even better if there wasn't so much focus on antics. I've especially grown an appreciation for how dark and creepy the atmosphere feels in "Scooby's Chinese Fortune Kooky Caper." The Moon Monster is also an excellent villain, and I think the whole episode would have benefitted greatly if there was more focus on the mystery.

Interesting… maybe I should rewatch Fortune Kooky Caper considering I am a bit surprised you’d say that. Maybe I just need to rewatch it myself 10/23/2023 09:27:24 am
I was surprised how much I enjoyed it too, but I really loved the vibe of the episode way more than I remembered. Another thing I noticed during my rewatch is that there's a brief frame where the Moon Monster looks kinda self-conscious/insecure, which I found kinda funny lol. https://64.media.tumblr.com/9bf93c1f68314245b688b25745696b41/27e02a07f848b206-c3/s1280x1920/2d11b4fa60667e1ecd8a4d1ef6117470e6faf390.jpg

I rewatched it, and I kinda see where you are coming from. I think the atmosphere is pretty good, maybe not as much as you like it, but I think the episode has grown back on me. I feel like my opinion on this episode has see-sawed back and forth but I am definitely more on the positive side after re-watching. One of the better season 3 episodes imo

Also, you gotta love an ashamed Moon Monster. He looks very remorseful lol 10/24/2023 09:29:07 am
I remember not loving the episode and lumping it in with the other antics-heavy season 3 episodes, but I was surprised how much I loved the setting and villain when rewatching it. I still think it would have been much stronger if there were more focus on the mystery in the way that season 1 or 2 did (the whole rickshaw bit could have been cut, tbh), but I like this so much better than I remembered. The atmosphere definitely makes this a highlight of its season IMO.

Seeing TSDS season 3 appreciation is always a W in my book, as the resident defender lol. I really like Kooky Caper, but it's probably around 10th best of the season for me (which says a lot).

I completely agree with you. Halsey was an okay guest star, but she didn't seem all that into the role, which is a bummer because I like Halsey. The mystery was pretty good but overall the guest star and villain were a bit lackluster IMO.
