Over the years, many fans have wondered if there was a deleted scene in "Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hydes," due to Shaggy mentioning running into King Kong, despite that we never actually see it happen. Some official confirmation that there was originally a scene featuring King Kong has surfaced online. One of the character designers for the show, Alex Toth, released a book titled Genius in 2014. In a preview of this book, a drawing of King Kong is included, with the storyboard labeled as being from "Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hydes."

It astounds me that likely no one has a copy of this version somewhere out there

Part of me admittedly wonders if somebody does and they don’t know about it/it hasn’t been found yet. The scene from “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair” surfaced online a couple years ago 47 years after it aired, so I wonder if this scene will also be discovered someday.

It would be wonderful if they just found an old archive somewhere at Warner Bros (not even sure how that would work lol) with all of the original versions of the episodes of this series. Who knows how many episodes this could apply for where stuff was lost 8/17/2023 04:47:11 pm
That would be amazing! I know studios were a lot more frivolous about keeping records of stuff back then, which is why you see old storyboards and character designs for sale now, since as far as I'm aware they didn't really have any guidelines for storing or archiving most storyboards.

I feel like one mentioned I heard was somewhere deep on the Scoobyaddicts boards, something about Laurel and Hardy in a desert episode or something, and I'm pretty sure I've heard it brought up elsewhere as well, maybe Amazon reviews. I guess for all I know, it could've been the same person in all places having a false memory lol 8/17/2023 09:08:29 pm
I tried searching for it on ScoobyAddicts and couldn't find it, although the search function on ProBoards can be kinda iffy, so who knows. It would be cool if there were a bunch of "lost episodes" (although it'd be as frustrating as it is cool since there's likely no way we'd ever see them). I guess it also depends on what your definition of "lost episode" is, since I imagine there are probably some episodes that were partially made and were later scrapped for whatever reason.

We would've known of an episode that was only aired once if it was true. There's a lot of fake stories and creepypastas of "lost episodes" for so many franchises. 8/18/2023 08:11:33 am
That's how I feel as well. I definitely think it is possible that an episode like that was partially made and then scrapped, but I doubt it actually aired.

Interesting. 8/21/2023 03:19:11 pm
Unless there was more than one scene missing from each, this is presumably what we know is missing from a couple:

(Reference to a line that Velma says in that ep that became viral on youtube for how random it was lol)

Oh, I didn't realize it went viral. There were a lot of random and interesting lines in The New Scooby-Doo Movies, particularly from Fred who seems completely checked out in a couple of the episodes lol.

Lmaoooo there were definitely some questionable moments in New Movies. This didn't really go viral per se but a video from a few years back did get a few hundred thousand views, I think my bad memory made me believe it got millions from way longer ago: https://youtu.be/nnbPZRapEbg 8/18/2023 05:04:35 pm
Wow, that's still a lot of views! I hadn't seen that video, but Velma's comment is kinda funny out of context lol.

I doubt this is the only one. Just from the top of my head I also remember a mummy being mentioned in the Addams family episode but never appearing whilst the Sonny and Cher episode had Shaggy and Scooby commenting about a dumb waiter they'd also been in from the previous night despite this not being true. I think this was overall an issue caused by the length of the episodes making it more difficult to proof read everything.

I remember those two instances as well. I think it's definitely possible it was just a proofreading issue, although this drawing of King Kong does make me wonder if any of those scenes exist, or maybe they were partially developed through production and then scrapped before the episode aired.

Agreed, especially as King Kong appears in the opening.

Interesting. Each episode you mention is from season one and has a shorter running time on the Blu-Ray.

That's my thought as well, but it's interesting they had to cut them at all considering the shorter runtime would mean that they weren't cut for time. I wonder what the reason for the cuts was.

Probably to give more time to the ad breaks 8/21/2023 03:15:50 pm
That's possible, although it wouldn't explain why only those episodes were cut and not the rest. Leave a Reply. |
