Update 1/10: The sculpt/topology model for the Krampus has been shared.
Update 1/9: Another storyboard animatic featuring the gang celebrating Christmas has been posted on Behind the Scoobs Instagram account. After the monster design for the film was posted last Monday, some additional info from the film has leaked throughout this weekend. The Behind the Scoobs Instagram account has been posting a number of storyboard animatics showing scenes from Scoob! Holiday Haunt. As of the time of this post, three animatics have been shared on that account. One features the gang meeting the chef after Shaggy and Scooby have a wild ride with a man who is presumably Fred's uncle. Another features Shaggy and Scooby running into some creepy dolls in what appears to be a cave. The third storyboard animatic involves Shaggy and Scooby being forced to clean Chef Dave's kitchen after they make a mess, and also includes Chef Dave showing the gang a very fancy chef outfit. The storyboard animatics seem to allude to the fact that Chef Dave was not necessarily just a one-off suspect, but it seems like Chef Dave had a decent-sized role in the film with multiple appearances. I'm not going to directly include the link to the Instagram reels, as it's a more of a legal grey area than a traditional unreleased Scooby filmed, considering that the film was high budget and was a tax-writeoff. It's exciting that some animatics are being released though, and it looks like it would have been a great movie!

Whatever way it releases (if it ever releases) will be so messy and embroiled in legal issues

Agreed, I could easily see it being leaked at some point and then WB either have to let it slide due to it being a tax rightoff or get it released and pay whatever tax back. 1/8/2024 11:02:23 am
I kind of wonder the same thing, there's been so much buzz about it lately that I have to wonder if we're going to finally get a release at some point (even if it's unofficial).

The franchise was talked about a whole lot when the first few episodes of Velma were released a year ago tbf. But that popularity wasn't for good reason though (unless you count people looking back at old Scooby and gaining more appreciation for it because of the Velma dumpster fire). 1/8/2024 04:56:51 pm
Could be, I think it's too early to say whether it will praised blindly. I think it will really depend how it ends up getting released. Who knows, maybe the Department of Justice investigation against WB's excessive tax write-offs in the US will lead to Zaslav being forced to release it. (That would be the ideal scenario imo)

Let's be real, the original "SCOOB" movie never got a decent shot because of Covid, and while I ended up enjoying the movie, even if it isn't perfect, I think more people would've like it better if they were able to view it on the big screen. With more people expressing interest in "Holiday Haunt", there's a chance that it may get redeemed. Either way, I hope it will be released one day soon, especially with how much material has been leaking lately.

SCOOB I feel failed partly because of Covid but also partly due to a rather poor and unscooby plot in my opinion. It almost felt like an advertisement for other HB characters at times and was more an action/adventure movie than one surrounding an actual proper mystery and hidden villain.

SCOOB failed because it's bad, period.

Personally, I think COVID was a part of it and as someone who liked the film, it is a bummer that it basically got turned into a DTV. I agree with Mr. Neither though in the sense that I still don't think it would have done as well as many people hoped because of how much it focused on other HB characters and the lack of mystery.

I know that the plot of the movie was different than most of the movies and shows, and I agree that was one of the issues, but sometimes a change of pace can make a big difference in stories. Also, I think the focus of the HB characters was a way to reintroduce them to the audience, because while most people remember Scooby-Doo and Yogi Bear, how many remember Captain Caveman or Jabberjaw? Plus, I bet most people thought Dee Dee Skyes was an original character who was designed to work for Blue Falcon, when in reality, she was a character for Captain Caveman. My point is, I know that movie wasn't perfect, but I think it would've done better if people gave it a decent chance, and didn't compare it with how "Scooby-Doo" storylines have behaved for the past 50 years. 1/9/2024 06:53:48 pm
Oh, gotcha. The focus on HB characters/lack of mystery didn't bother me personally, and I thought the film was great. That said, I also can understand how some people might be underwhelmed by the film since it was the first theatrical Scooby project in 15 years, but I personally really enjoyed the film for what it is.

Sadly, I feel Scooby is just not as popular with modern kids and thus they went with a different focus but in doing so they alienated the loyal adult fan base who've waited years to see their fave dog on the big screen again and solving a really interesting mystery. SCOOB also suffered by being first in a supposed Hanna Barbera cinematic universe, thus all the cameos and appearances of other HB characters. 1/10/2024 05:19:36 pm
Yeah, I agree with you that Scooby isn't as popular with modern kids, but I'd argue that a part of it is the general lack of promotion. They do a good job promoting the series when they first come out, but it seems like they always drop the ball by the second season. SDMI suffered from lengthy hiatuses in its second season, and it also wasn't really promoted much. Even when it did air, it aired mid-day when many kids are in school, and they quickly blew through the episodes by airing one per day. Be Cool had the same issue, and I'd argue it got screwed the worst promotion-wise. The promotion was great through most of season 1, then they just suddenly stopped airing them and dumped them in an overnight slot in the US. Then, they switched the first half of season 2 to be on the Boomerang service without much promotion, and then they aired the second half of season 2 in an overnight slot on Boomerang with no promotion. I'd argue it was tough, if not impossible, for kids to even figure out when it was airing. It says a lot that even the head writer, JCB, had no idea when the episodes were actually airing by the end. Guess Who had the same thing to a lesser extent, where there was a lot of promo for season 1, and then season 2 was just kinda dumped on the service without much promotion. Not saying that's the only reason, but I think Scooby would be at least somewhat more popular among kids if they actually were consistent in their promotion of when it was airing.

Yeah, Be Cool was mental promotion wise, I remember the last episodes of season 1 releasing on dvd in Australia before being shown on TV anywhere else in the world. Plus the whole lets air this episode with a hurricane just as a hurricane hits scenario. 1/12/2024 07:42:29 am
I forgot about them releasing the end of season 1 on DVD in Australia before it aired here lol. And yeah, the hurricane episode airing during a hurricane was definitely a big bungle. 1/9/2024 06:58:00 pm
Wow, it's crazy they are sharing so many of them! I wonder if they are just going to slowly leak the film through the animatics until we have the whole thing lol. Anyways, thank you for this, I just added it to the post!

There's a weird lack of Scooby Christmas specials. A lot of snow/winter stuff but very few episodes/movies that directly tie into the holiday. Would have been nice to have some sort of longer form Scooby Christmas movie to return to every year, because this past season the watchlist was very short.

It is really strange to think about the fact we've only gotten 5 Christmas specials in the entire history of the franchise, and none of them are films. Even if it's not this one, I'd love to get a Scooby Christmas film someday.

Ugh… I hope this movie releases. The same way they reversed the decision to cancel the Wile Coyote movie, which was nearly completed. Maybe one day… hopefully one day.

I think it will be harder with this one since so much time has elapsed, but maybe the DOJ investigation of WB will lead to getting this film released.
