A listing has just popped up on Amazon and Barnes & Noble announcing the release of a new picture book featuring the Hex Girls. The book, Velma and the Mystery of the River Ghost, will be released on September 3, 2024. The story will be written by Robb Pearlman, with Pedro Riquelme doing the illustrations. The picture book will have 32 pages and will be published by Running Press. While the whole gang will appear, it seems that Velma and The Hex Girls will be the main characters in the book based on the description. Here's the description:
The Mystery Inc. gang has no idea that their class trip will include a visit from the ghostly Captain Barnacle. And when Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Daphne, and Fred all become seasick, it’s up to Velma to try to track down the passengers’ stolen backpacks and the Hex Girls’ musical gear! Could the mysterious dust on tarps and the deck floor be a clue? Join Velma and the Hex Girls as they work together to solve another spooky case in this all-new, all-hands-on-deck Mystery Inc. Picture Book mystery.

Seems like they're specifically planning to release Velma focused merch and comics in August-September. Considering we know Velma S2 is coming, with a Halloween episode too, they're doing all of this to coincide with the new season as promotion. I don't know how to feel about this tactic though, since these toys and books are targeted towards children, yet Velma is a mature rated show. 1/1/2024 09:38:05 pm
I also thought that was odd, since I can't see why they'd want to promote a mature series with stuff targeted towards kids. The only two things I can think of are 1) they're trying to offset any potential backlash from the series by putting out regular Velma content to show the general public that Velma isn't changing the direction of the franchise 2) It's a coincidence and Mr. Neither's theory below about trying to make Scooby appeal even more to young girls.

Hey blog snax, happy new year , I can’t believe it’s 2024!, times goes too fast! It is nice we are getting some Scooby doo on the first day of this year, it’s probably likely we will get a new series announcement this year. When do you think we may get it announcement? And do you think we will get a Scooby Doo DVD Movie this year like Krypto?

Happy new year to you too! I'm glad we've gotten so much news already! It would be great if we could get an announcement for a new series this year. If we get one, I'm guessing it would be closer to the end of 2024. I'm not sure if we'll get another Scooby DTV this year. It's hard to say with all of the films being written off for taxes at WB. I definitely hope we get another film this year!

Don't like the fact they are focusing on on Velma specifically.

Cause as of now, she's been the worst character, honestly I prefer scrappy than the Velma that we've gotten

Among "the trilogy " of monsters aren't real sequels. pretty much since Mindy cohn was unfairly boated.

Hey kids, we need to sell more merch so let's try and our pie charts tell us Scooby just isn't attracting enough girls so let's just throw some random Velma merch out there.

Yeah, I was thinking that's likely why they're releasing all the Velma merch too, or they're trying to offset the backlash of the Velma series by putting out some regular Velma merch for kids. Considering we also got numerous books featuring Velma as the lead character last August, there's clearly some sort of strategy on WB's part here, most likely what you said.

Same haha. I don't usually buy the books but I'd maybe consider getting this one just to see how it is.

I think Mr. Neither's theory two comments above yours might have some validity to it, because it does seem like there's a lot of Velma content between some of the books last year and now these. And yeah, I also wish there was a series name, since the Haunted Library book last year was also in this style.
