Matthew Lillard was recently interviewed by Toonado, and dropped an exciting tidbit about an upcoming Scooby project. He didn't provide much details as to what it was, but he noted that it would be a unique project that will "allow kids to put themselves in a Scooby-Doo adventure." Here's his full quote from the interview:
"I’m really excited about [Scooby-Doo]. I can’t really talk about it yet, but there’s a new project I’m associated with that will allow kids to put themselves into a Scooby-Doo adventure," Lillard shared. "That’s super fun. For me, that’s my day job. It’s my bread and butter." You can watch the interview where Matthew Lillard teases this here. The interview covers a number of subjects, both Scooby-related and not, but the project is teased around the 13:00 mark.

My prediction is some kind of VR video game. Either that or maybe a theme park dark ride?

I'm thinking a video game as well. A theme park ride would also be cool though!

Yeah, that definitely sounds like some sort of video game. Bout time, long overdue since the last proper Scooby video game. Good to see we're finally getting something that's not just the 75th crossover or abominations like Velma.

Agreed, it's wild to think the last proper Scooby game we've gotten was nearly 15 years ago at this point with Spooky Swamp. Excited to see what this project is.

My money is also on video game. Would definitely buy it. Really hope we get a really high quality video game here if that is indeed what it is

I'd definitely pick it up as well if it's a high-quality video game. It would be cool if it somehow tied into a film like First Frights did, but not sure how likely that is.

Is the new Scooby project an online game?

Would love another video game. Could even possibly create your own character by sounds of it.

I was wondering that too, although I'm not sure if he meant that or just that kids would get to play as a Scooby character (I could see both options being equally likely)

I mean, I loved Lego Dimensions and Scooby would have made a great full Lego game based on previous mysteries. Scooby is such an easy concept to turn into a video game, really been to long since we had a proper one. A Night of 100 frights is still by far the best proper video game we've had and considering the developments over the past 22 years, that is crazy!

I'll be in the corner holding the flag for Mystery Mayhem lol. But honestly, the fact that the best era of Scooby games was 20 years ago is strange. We have yet to see a Scooby game with modern high quality graphics. The methods of storytelling, gameplay and character interactions have evolved so much too. There is so much potential in a brand new Scooby game, it's crazy. It would sell great too. 3/5/2024 02:56:44 pm
@Mr Neither There was that Escape from Haunted Isle game that I really liked, although it was taken offline quickly after the slew of Scooby LEGO content finished in 2015-2017 (I assume maybe their brand deal/licensing ran out or something). There's no official version of it online anymore, but a quick Google search will pull up a couple of unofficial sites where you can still play it.

Wildwind, that video game is not bad and Becker I think a lot of thatn is ndue to Scooby falling out of favour and more competition for kids attention from other kids shows. With Lego I think they opted to focus more on their own media. 3/6/2024 01:14:26 pm
That could be, although I think Scooby is still decently popular (despite WB's poor promotion of it lately) and could have made decent profits from putting out a video game. Guessing you're probably right on LEGO, or their brand deal with Scooby expired.

The weird thing is, we keep getting board games. Discovered a Scooby Doo munchkin game came out late last year today. Problem is a lot of these Scooby board games are complicated to play and you need people to play them. Mine currently just sit in the cupboard collecting dust!https://thirstymeeples.co.uk/products/munchkin-scooby-doo 3/6/2024 10:12:11 pm
Yeah, we do seem to get a lot of board games. Seems like a lot of them are unofficial though, and don't get much (if any) promotion (I didn't even know about the one you linked). Board games are much cheaper to make and not much of a financial risk, if WB has any involvement in any of them, so I'm guessing that's why we keep getting them

Agreed, I never knew about it either until randomly popped up when looking for Scooby via google. I agree, likely for a lot of them all they have to do is pay a licensing fee.

Maybe it's a Scooby Doo fun house?

I think that's probably unlikely, but that could be neat if it was.
