After a two-year wait, the HBO Max series Jellystone! finally released their third season, which featured a number of fun surprises for Hanna-Barbera fans. The new season featured crossover episodes with The Jetsons and Goober and the Ghost Chasers, but perhaps most interesting for Scooby fans is that one episode is a re-imagining of the Laff-a-Lympics, titled "LAFF Games". The episode features the town of Jellystone facing off against the town of New Bedrock in the yearly LAFF Games, which Mayor Huckleberry is determined to win due to the town being humiliated at every year. The participants from Jellystone are the Yogi Yahooeys, whereas the New Bedrock participants are the Really Rottens. Snagglepuss and Mildew Wolf return as the commentators. The Scooby Doobies don't make an appearance in this episode, but I still thought this would be newsworthy to share for those who were fans of Laff-a-Lympics.
I watched the episode this morning and thought it was an excellent re-imagining that captured the tone and whimsy of the original series, while also staying true to the absurdist humor of Jellystone! What I loved most about the episode is that the crossover didn't feel forced at all; it felt very natural and like an enjoyable throwback to the show. I love the humor of this series, and this episode didn't disappoint (the scene where Yakky is dealing with her guilty conscience had me laughing pretty hard). If you enjoyed the Laff-a-Lympics and liked the more absurd humor style of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, I would highly recommend checking out this episode. There is also a brief Scooby-Doo cameo in the episode "Frankenhooky," which is the Goober and the Ghost Chasers crossover, although I don't know if I'd say that one is worth checking out if you're not already a fan of the series. The episode got increasingly weird and while I enjoyed it as a fan of the series, it definitely felt like a fever dream and not anything notable enough to check out.

Tbf it isn't a great design lol. I would say that episode was my least favorite of the three crossovers episodes. The Laff-a-Lympics one was my fave, with The Jetsons a close second, but I thought they made Ted and Tina too weird, and the end was all kinds of WTF. I enjoyed the episode a decent amount and it fit well with the tone of Jellystone!, but Tina was basically an entirely different character and I also thought Ted's outrageous, in-your-face personality was a bit grating by the end. With The Jetsons crossover, I liked how they changed some aspects of Jane and Rosie, but they retained aspects of their typical personalities, rather than becoming completely different characters like they did here.

Who plays the Scooby gang in their cameo?

They actually got all of the normal voice actors to voice the gang, which was really cool! The designs definitely left something to be desired though lol.

The designs work for a funny cameo and they fit with the Jellystone style. But yeah, they would not work for a whole Scooby show at all lol. 2/22/2024 08:39:13 pm
It's a bummer they don't have a better international release strategy for this or any of the HBO Max shows. Hopefully you'll get to see them soon.

Jellystone does fortunately air in the UK on Cartoon Network. It's just a waiting game for when it comes.

George Lowe was the Coast to Coast Space Ghost, so he didn't sound like Gary Owens, who himself may have sounded a bit old when he did a cameo in The Brave and the Bold (I can't remember). 2/23/2024 11:17:50 am
I'm glad that you're able to get it on Cartoon Network. Hopefully they will air the episodes for you soon!

Unfortunately, I don't do so well with places like Kim. I gave that up a years ago.

Yep haha. I will probably also do a fun fact sharing the rest of the Scooby-Doo references on Monday, as there were a few others. I really liked the Charlie the Robot one lol.

Laff Games - That's fair, I enjoyed the crossover quite a bit but that probably was because I am a fan of Jellystone. With Mr. Creeply and his son, I'm wondering if they ran into some copyright issues? I noticed that they also only announced four of the Really Rottens and then just said "and a bunch of other guys!" Not sure if that was just a joke or not, but I know the original Laff-a-Lympics had some copyright issues (i.e. they had to change Dick Dastardly and Muttley to "Dread Baron and Mumbly"), so maybe a similar thing happened here.

I forgot that another reason George Lowe might have sounded different is that his health has been quite bad in recent years, so it's great that he was able to do this still.

I've been looking up the premiere date for Scooby in Australia, which seems to be February 22, 1971. If anybody here is from Australia, could they confirm that, please?

There were also cameos by Ghost Clown in a photo in one episode (can’t remember which one) and Scooby-Dum in the season finale.

I hadn't seen those at the time of making this post, but I'm planning to post them (and the Charlie the Robot cameo) as tomorrow's fun fact :)
