Today marks a very special occasion: it's officially been 500 weeks in a row that I've been posting these fun facts. I can't believe it's been close to 10 years I've been posting these! Back when I started writing these on September 29, 2014, I don't think I ever thought I'd be continuing these a decade later, but I have a lot of fun coming up with these each week, and it's evolved into being one of my favorite things about doing this blog.
Full disclosure, I do have another surprise to celebrate the 500th fun fact that isn't quite ready yet, and I'm so excited to hopefully share that with you all soon. In the meantime, I did still want to do something special to commemorate the day, since posting these 500 weeks in a row is such a huge milestone. I was thinking about how during the pandemic, I did a number of different more involved projects for fun facts, and I haven't done something like that in a long while now. Thus, for this special fun fact, I wanted to do a little research project that I don't believe has been done in the past. I was curious which country the gang had traveled to the most, and through my research, it turns out the answer is a three-way tie between Scotland, France and Japan. The gang visited each of those three countries 6 different times. To figure this out, I calculated out how many times the gang has traveled internationally. I included "The Night Ghoul of Wonderworld" as them traveling to the UK, even though the resort was technically in North America. I also included it if the gang traveled to a landmark on another continent that is not in one specific country (i.e. the Amazon River, Andes Mountains, etc.) Just for fun, since I'd already written out all the countries they'd visited, I also counted how many times the gang has visited each continent. Below is a full breakdown of how many times the gang has visited countries and continents outside of the US. A couple notes before we get into the breakdown:
North America (outside US) = 12 Mexico - 7 Canada - 4 Haiti - 1 South America = 5 Brazil - 2 Argentina - 1 Andes Mountains - 1 Amazon River - 1 Europe = 45 Scotland - 6 France - 6 Romania - 5 England - 4 Italy - 4 Greece - 4 Ireland - 2 Switzerland - 2 Austria - 2 Netherlands - 2 Norway - 2 Russia - 2 Denmark - 1 Germany - 1 Spain - 1 Poland - 1 Africa = 12 Egypt - 4 Morocco - 2 Tanzania - 1 Sahara Desert - 1 Malawi - 1 *Note: In the Laff-a-Lympics episode "Africa and San Francisco," the competition takes place in Africa but a specific country was not named. In addition, the gang visits jungles in Africa in "A Bungle in the Jungle" and "Scooby of the Jungle," but the specific country the jungles are in isn't named in either episode. All three of these episodes are included in the above total for the continent. Asia = 21 Japan - 6 China - 4 Himalayas - 3 Turkey - 2 India - 2 Arabian Peninsula - 2 Iran - 1 Iraq - 1 Thailand - 1 Israel - 1 Australia / Oceania = 4 Australia - 3 New Zealand - 1 Antarctica = 1 Misc. North Pole - 3 South Pole - 2 Sargasso Sea - 1 It was a lot of fun tackling a bigger research project like this again, so I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it up!

Thank you! :) And thanks for the corrections as well, totally my bad as I was just writing the countries down and putting them in their respective continent categories as I went through each of the episodes on Scoobypedia, so I think a couple of them got mixed up and got put in the continent before/after.

A cheeky fun fact: Marla Frumkin went from playing Daphne's high school girl friend (Scary Sky Skeleton) to playing Daphne's current girl friend 6 episodes later. Still the only voice actor change of a main Scooby-Doo character to happen during the course of a season.

Would you believe this is the exact fun fact I already planned to post for next week? haha I rewatched "The Scary Sky Skeleton" after the conversation about TSD&SDS in the comments last week, and noticed this too. First time anyone's suggested the exact fun fact I'd already planned to post lol.

I wonder when or who decided, "They need to go outside of the US."

I'd say it was maybe a studio/creative decision? It seemed like there was a very sharp uptick in them traveling to other countries in The Scooby-Doo season 3. It'd only happened three times before that ("Mystery in Persia," "The Fiesta Host Is an Aztec Ghost" and "The Harum Scarum Sanitarium").

I never realized how much globetrotting TSDS S3 did until a comment a couple of years ago. That made me appreciate this season even more, as it introduced a new aspect to the show to keep things fresh that has basically become an essential prerequisite to have in almost any Scooby show and movie era after this. And I highly enjoyed how they did it in this season too. 4/8/2024 11:58:12 am
Yeah, I think it's cool as well. A part of me sort of wonders if it was a creative initiative to try to freshen up the show, since they were clearly trying hard to do that around that time with the addition of Scrappy.

It definutely was. The Scooby-Doo franchise, for as well known of a tried and true formula as it has, has always tried to introduce new things into the mix; not only from series to series, but sometimes from seasons to seasons too, as early as the second season ever. In SDWAY S2 they introduced the musical chase scenes, NSDMo they completely revamped the format with double the runtime and guest stars every episode, in TSDS S1 and S2 they had the first recurring character of the franchise: Scooby-Dum. So naturally, I think the tendency for mysteries abroad in TSDS S3 was done for a similar reason.

Thank you so much! :) They didn't list it on Scoobypedia, but I double-checked the Laff-a-Lympics Wikia and it shows Argentina on there, so I'll add it!

The gang visits Canada four times not three because the Scooby doo show episode the curse of Viking lake takes place in Canada along with three others

If I remember correctly, I don't think they ever state it takes place in Canada (Scoobypedia says the location was in an unnamed place as well).

Congratulations on the milestone. Scotland is surely part of Britain though if counting them altogether.

No worries, can't believe they've never visited Wales! I mean the national flag has a dragon on it, easiest villain ever.
