There are three amusing instances in Laff-a-Lympics season 1 of characters accidentally showing up in the audience cheering for themselves, even though they are competing in the event. The first instance happens in "The Sahara Desert and Scotland," which shows the Teen Angels are cheering for themselves in the crowd, despite the fact that they are currently participating in the Fill Up The Oasis Contest. In "India and Israel," Yogi appears in the audience cheering for himself in the Reed Boat Race. Lastly, in "The Grand Canyon and Ireland," Dastardly Dalton is shown cheering for himself during the Catch the Leprechaun Contest (Leprechaun-test? lol).

I've noticed that too.

I hadn't noticed the episode where Dee Dee is accidentally race-swapped, that's really strange! I haven't checked out the Marvel comics before, but that actually sounds pretty cool! I really enjoyed the most recent Jellystone! Laff-a-Lympics re-imagining episode, and I'd be totally down for a reboot series in that vein.

Laff-a-Lympics was horrible at keeping track of the characters lmao. I think you can count on one hand the amount of times Cindy was in a shot besides when it was her turn to compete.

Lol I've noticed that too, same with Quick Draw McGraw.

I think Quick Draw was on screen a good amount in every episode. However, Shaggy and Speed Buggy started being omitted a lot when not competing in the second season. 3/12/2024 09:37:39 am
I don't know why I said Quick Draw McGraw, I meant Hong Kong Phooey. I'm pretty sure he was only in one event (maybe two?) at the beginning and then didn't compete again for the rest of the series. It would vary from shot to shot after that as to whether he was in the audience, and I don't think he was that often.

I feel like I remember Hong Kong Phooey in the audience sometimes, he just almost NEVER did any competitions. I could be wrong about the first part though 3/12/2024 10:45:40 am
He may have been in the audience sometimes, I honestly don't remember. I just remembered that he was basically never in any events and it was very inconsistent as to whether he'd show up in the audience cheering.

Interesting; according to the wiki, Hong Kong Phooey actually competed in 4 episodes: "The Swiss Alps and Tokyo, Japan", "South America and Transylvania", "Morocco and Washington D.C." and "Siam and the Moon" (3 of those are season 2 episodes, while the other one is the series premiere, so he had a drought of 17 episodes in a row of no competing). He also had one more speaking role in another episode: "Florida and China" (S1E3). Tbf, 5 episodes with lines is actually better than a few of the other characters from the other 2 teams lol (such as Snooper and Blabber). And funnily enough, the only episode he was completely absent from is Africa and San Francisco; so he was at least seen in crowd shots in all the other episodes. I guess most people forgetting if he was ever doing something or even being present is kind of a Mandella effect maybe. 3/12/2024 06:59:50 pm
Huh, interesting, I didn't remember he competed in multiple episodes. I vaguely remember him in "South America and Transylvania" now that you say it (I think it might have been with Scooby-Dum), but I have no memory of the other two. Could be the Mandela effect, but I also think it's equally likely that a lot of people didn't watch season 2 as much since it's never been released on DVD. I've seen the season 2 episodes only maybe a few times tbh, and three of those appearances were in the second season, so that's probably why I didn't remember it (and maybe same for Matt?).

I only remembered Tokyo and I remembered he made another appearance in the second season but didn't know which one. So I am surprised to learn he competed more than that because I definitely thought he was the most invisible out of all competing characters throughout the show (Though I also thought Snooper and Blabber were up there as well). I am definitely less surprised by him showing up in crowd shots though 3/13/2024 12:08:57 pm
Mr. Jinks was another character that felt pretty invisible imo. He was in maybe like two or three competitions at the most if I'm remembering correctly.

What we've learnt over the past two weeks. Laff a Lympics was a mess.

That's an excellent theory, and I'd argue that the Yogis and Rottens had actually hired Olympic athletes disguised as them to further their cheating that was discussed last week lol.

Honestly, the Yogi Yahooeys were truly despicable for all of this cheating. They already had a complete unfair advantage in having a player several tons out of everyone else's weight class in Grape Ape on their team, and they still felt the need to do all of this cheating. I maintain that if the Yogi Yahooeys were of good sportsmanship, that they would've gotten Magilla Gorilla or someone to be on their team instead

Next time we should ban the Yogi Yahooeys and replace them with the Flintjet Stonesons 3/13/2024 12:05:08 pm
Ah yes, The Flintjet Stonesons will restore order and fairness to the farce that the Yogi Yahooeys turned the Laff-a-Lympics into lol.

Honestly, they could even replace the Yogi Yahooeys with a team of Scooby Doo villains and there would be still be an increase in honesty and integrity from what the Yogi Yahooeys gave lol. Perhaps they can be the Space Kook Spectaculars or the Really Redbeards

Hanna Barbera have so many characters they could easily double the amount of teams. Besides The Flintjet Stonesons (which I agree would be a killer combo), there are many other characters that could be included, like Daphne, Velma, Fred, Scrappy, Josie and the Pussycats, Jabberjaw, Funky Phantom, Ranger Smith, Top Cat, Magilla Gorilla, Peter Potamus, Atom Ant, Secret Squirrel, Baba Looey, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Birdman etc, their catalogue is so dense. Heck, even their OG creation Tom and Jerry technically counts. I'd also like for the villains to be actual HB bad guys, not just reskins of their previous work lol. A team made of HB's late Cartoon Network years would be neat too (Dexter, PPG, Johnny Bravo etc). 3/13/2024 02:20:45 pm
@Matt I'd totally stan a team called the Really Redbeards lol. The Yeti Yahooeys also has a nice ring to it if they wanted to give the team and overhaul and make the Snow Ghost the team captain lol.

We can chuck in there a team of classic Looney Tunes characters while at it.
Becker

@Wildwind, technically it would be early HB vs late HB, as the CN shows I mentioned were still made by Hanna-Barbera Productions. 3/13/2024 02:41:00 pm
@Becker True, and while I was never into Looney Tunes, I think a lot of people would love having them as a team.

I like to imagine the Really Redbeards have both the original Redbeard as well as Frugal Redbeard. No one is beating that team in an extreme couponing event! 3/15/2024 08:07:28 am
As much as I love the Scooby Doobies, I'd definitely have to switch sides and start rooting for the Really Redbeards if they had both the original and Frugal Redbeard lol.
Matt
3/15/2024 09:03:47 pm
To be fair, I think we all would. I heard Sassy Fred was considering joining the Really Redbeards just to spite the Scooby Doobys for leaving him out lol 3/16/2024 10:25:20 am
Honestly there may be a silver lining in the Yogi's excessive cheating: we get this amazing dream team! Now we just need to get Don Knotts and Gentlemanly Batman and the team would be complete! lol
Becker
3/16/2024 02:53:28 pm
Don Knotts deserves a team full of just his alter-egos lol 3/16/2024 03:28:38 pm
I'd be so down for this happening lol. Imagine a team made up of Don, Homer Pipsqueak, Deputy Don from "The Spooky Fog," and the groundskeeper from Night of 100 Frights. The Really Redbeards would have some serious competition for who I'd most be rooting for haha.
Matt
3/16/2024 08:15:27 pm
I think we should let the Don Knotts have their own team and place Gentlemanly Batman on the Really Redbeards. I suggest we also place the Literal Pirates from Up a Crazy River just so the Really Redbeards don't stray too far from its pirate roots 3/16/2024 09:37:09 pm
Completely agreed, I also think Redbeard's Spirit Crew that he keeps in the skull from "The Ghostly Creep from the Deep" should be considered honorary members of the Really Redbeards lol.
Matt
3/16/2024 11:41:28 pm
Yes, the Spirit Crew assists the Really Redbeards by frightening everyone else during the competitions. However, I suppose there are no rules in the rule book about having Spirits spook the other teams, so they wouldn’t be cheaters like the Yogi Yahooeys at least
