Happy Wednesday everyone! For our fourth fan spotlight, we have Isaiah with us, better known to some as 47Cartoonguy on YouTube. Isaiah posts episode and film reviews of cartoons, including Scooby-Doo, regularly on his YouTube channel. You can check out the 47Cartoonguy YouTube channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/47Cartoonguy Here’s Isaiah’s profile: 1. What is your name? My name is Isaiah. On Youtube I go by 47Cartoonguy. 2. How did you get into Scooby-Doo? When I was younger, my dad was in the army and got stationed in a lot of various places. We lived in Anchorage, Alaska from 95-97 and that’s when I remember first watching scooby doo reruns on Cartoon Network. And if I remember, I think the first episode I saw was from the original Where Are You series. I’ve been hooked ever since. 3. What is your favorite Scooby-Doo episode and film? Why? Favorite episode: What a Night for a Knight (1969). A very perfect introduction to what would become a long running franchise. Also Jeepers, it’s the Creeper (1970) for the first appearance of one of my favorite villains, as well as the slapstick and the Daydreaming chase song. Favorite film(s): Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, everything about that movie is perfect: the darker tone, the characters, the music and the beautiful animation. I love this movie so much I made a video praising it. Check it out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPZvoDMKEn8 Also Scooby doo and the goblin king, it’s very creative and really gets me in the Halloween spirit. I watch it every year. 4. What ways are you involved in the Scooby fandom online? I make reviews online and also do fan art. 5. In your opinion, what is the best series or era of Scooby? I think the original Hanna-Barbera era (1969-1991) was the best. Some incarnations are obviously better than others, but the classics will always have a place in my heart. 6. If they could make a sequel to one Scooby-Doo series or film, what would it be? I would like to see maybe a return of the Grimwood Girls. It would be pretty cool to see Fred, Daphne and Velma interact with them, and be totally confused on how Shaggy and Scooby would become friends with them. 7. What direction would you like to see the franchise go in the future? I’d like to see a dark Scooby-Doo movie again in the vein of the first four direct to video films. I think the closest we got was Camp scare and maybe Frankencreepy. I’d also would like WB to treat Scrappy a little better. 8. Who is your favorite member of the gang and why? Scooby and Shaggy together are my favorite because you can relate to them, they are scared, they love to eat and wanna stay out of trouble. Iwao Takamoto once said they were the smartest characters in the show ,because they were the ones who didn’t wanna go to a spooky place that the kids had no business sticking their noses in. 9. What is your favorite villain? Why? Simone and Lena from Zombie Island. They were incredibly evil and murderous, but they also had a tragic backstory. I also love how their human versions had opposite personalities with Lena being the sweet, charming one and Simone being cold and strict. 10. In your opinion, who is the best recurring (non-gang) character in the franchise? The Hex Girls. I would like to see what else the writers can do with them. 11. Do you have a Scooby-Doo collection? If so, what’s in it? Yes, TONS of DVDs. I’m actually excited to get the Blu-ray set of Where Are You. I’m hoping to get some animation cels as well. 12. What do you think has made the franchise so popular that it’s still going strong after 50 years? It has a formula that works it may be repetitive, but it does teach kids deductive reasoning and problem solving. Also, these characters are so famous and so beloved, I think they played a huge part of Scooby's staying power these 50 years. Kids love them. I guess that’s what separates the show from the obvious cash in rip offs Hanna Barbera made in the 70s. 13. What is one fun fact about you in real life? I’m a cartoonist with ambitions to get into the animation industry. I already have my own ideas with characters I created. Hanna-Barbera cartoons are pretty much my biggest influences. 14. Please feel free to share anything else you’d like to here! Thank you so much, I’m so honored. Thanks Isaiah, for taking the time to answer all my questions! Feel free to leave him a comment below. Stay tuned for the fifth fan profile tomorrow!
